Probably not unpopular but the triangle grip section on the lamy safari utterly ruins the pen. 

Of course I don’t mean to attack anyone and their passion, I just want to hear some fresh opinions that aren’t heard all that often. I’ll lead the way with three lesser ones:

1. There’s a time and a place for fountain pens. I love all of my pens to death and using them always brightens my day, but for work purposes, most of the shitty paper I’m given can’t even handle anything bigger than an F nib with average ink. Just as much thought and passion went into ballpoint pens and in my opinion, they’re much better all-rounders, so purposefully trashing ballpoints makes this sub looks quite pretentious and elitist.

2. Kaweco makes _the_ ugliest fountain pens I have ever seen in my life, especially the sport. Oh god.

3. Where’s the fun in collecting TWSBI, Lamy, Kaweco or other pens just to have them in different colors? You could explore so many new brands, mechanisms or models with that money.

Again, no hate towards anyone, I just find it fun to hear from some of the people who might not see much representation in the sub.

What are your unpopular fountain pen opinions?

 Like I said, it's a fairly reasonably priced pen. It goes for around twenty-five to thirty dollars. Places like Goulet Pens comm Anderson Pens, Amazon.com I Think it's a little cheaper on Amazon probably closer to twenty five and on Goulet it's around I think Twenty Nine Sixty or something like that

 It uses a cartridge converter filler system, but I thought we just go over the pen. We'll take a little closer look at it I'll talk about some of the features, tell you what I like about it. We'll do a writing sample and at the end I will give you my conclusions as to whether or not this pen is worth having in your arsenal. So let's take a closer look

 For a big pen, these things hold surprisingly little ink when used with a standard converter. I far prefer using a syringe to refill Lamy cartridges. I suspect refilled cartridges hold 2/3 more ink than converters.  2) Lamy clips bag out over time

Lamy makes my all-time favorite fountain pen

 I am looking for a recommendation for a medium-large pen with a thicker grip that and a nib that has not as much flex. Ideally a bit thicker than a Kaweco fine nib but thinner than a Lamy Safari medium nib.

Lamy M is too broad and wet for my Muji A5 Notebook, the Kaweco fine nib was a bit too fine. I have some other FP at my disposal but they are not really a good EDC for me, the nib is too flexible (Noodler Ahab, Montblanc 348). I am looking for a recommendation for a medium-large pen with a thicker grip that and a nib that has not as much flex. Ideally a bit thicker than a Kaweco fine nib but thinner than a Lamy Safari medium nib

 Just these little, uh, scuff marks where it's gotten a little rough from wearing against something. But overall, I think this pen wears pretty dang well. I don't think that there are any huge weaknesses as far as longevity. I think that this is a good pen and it will be a good pen for a long time

 this came out and the violet. This is 2020, one of the 2020 special editions, so both really pretty pens. I don't care so much for the gloss finish on a lot of the standard Lamy Safaris, but a lot of their special editions have this matte finish and I think that this finish is really nice. I like the feel of it, I like the look of it, and so yeah, that's why I have these too

Okay, so let's start at the heart of the pen, which is the Nib. So the petrol edition has a black nib and the Violet has just their normal standard steel nib and this is an extra fine. Lamy Safari Fountain Pen Review: Longevity, Design, and Writing Sample

 While this is obvious to me, only someone paying close attention would notice.  5) Bulky. Not something you would think of when shopping for your fountain pen, but this Lamy does not fit into the compartmentalized pen holders in all of my briefcases. Due to the large body and squared off ends (as opposed to the traditional "torpedo" shape), it can be akward getting this pen into the compartments when I am in a rush

Excellent low key entry level pen

 Personally this bothers me at 40 bucks a pop plus inks and cartridges which will not stay lubricated forever thank goodness they are only a buck for the cartridges. The inks can be quite expensive. Last a long time but expensive to build a color library if inks for calligraphy. With the way they need ink as often as they do, they are a pain in the rear if you write or draw with them

Hello! Does anyone here write regularly with a stub nib? I find I'm not fond of F nibs as my writing seems kind of scraggly. I have one B nib pen - a TWSBI Eco. I love how thick the line is but it's quite juicy (which I like but not for daily writing).  I figured my best bet was a M nib pen and they make up the majority of my collection.  I previously wrote with the Pilot Parallel 2.4 mm and it was scratchy and not a pleasant experience.  Today, however, I wrote for the first time with a Lamy Joy 1.5 mm stub and I. Loved. It.  The writing experience was smooth, the line thickness was fantastic and it wasn't super wet.

This has caused me to re-think what kind of pen or nib I want to use on a daily basis. Should I swap out the nib on my TWSBI from B to 1.1mm? Is the juicy factor because of the roundness of the nib? or should I try a B on another pen?  What would you do?

Pen Advice/Suggestion

I agree that Opus 88, specifically the Omar and Demonstrator are chunky. These are the ones I own and like for the oversized style and the models with #6 nib.

I don’t like thin pens. I’m looking for something with some girth. What are my options?
