In 2022, mountain athletes don’t think twice about taking on big, technical challenges with nothing more than a pair of running shoes and a day’s worth of supplies. Among the growing assortment of fast-and-light footwear options, many of our go-to shoes come from climbing-specialist La Sportiva. Their versatile Bushido II is a perennial favorite and excels on all manner of terrain, from soggy trails and snow to fifth-class rock and loose talus. Grippy FriXion rubber (a compound used on some of Sportiva’s climbing shoes) gives you solid traction while scrambling, and the burly tread grips remarkably well on soft terrain without being too overbuilt for firm ground. Tack on a durable upper, protective toe cap, and rock guard underfoot, and the Bushido is a solid and confidence-inspiring workhorse of a shoe.

Compared to the Speedcross above, the La Sportiva here has much more versatile intentions for a variety of on- and off-trail terrain. Further, mountain runners will love the shoe’s low stack height (19mm in the heel compared to the Speedcross’ 30mm), which lends stability and a solid ground feel. But all this performance does end up feeling a bit overkill on smooth paths, and the Bushido’s lightly cushioned midsole is noticeably less comfortable than all-around models like the Speedgoat or Sense Ride 4 above (especially on high-mileage days).  It has a velcro gusseted tongue. It has an ortholite ergonomic insert. The weight of the shoe is 10.5 ounces or 298 grams

 I do think these Bushidos are very durable shoe. I mean just looking at it I can tell how it's made and how the protection is on the shoe. It's make it a very durable shoe. I just use this shoe in very aggressive terrain which eats up the shoes like in no time so it still looks good

 Actually the mod doesn't stick to it as to other ones with a deeper log so that's one advantage. The traction performs pretty good in loose gravel situation and we have couple of trails here with all these little loose gravel small pebbles you can just slip down. But actually I felt really good and stable and comfortable in this terrain too. so I didn't have any problem with the traction yet

 So if you look at this last Portivas you look at the shoe which looks like bomb proof and actually it's kind of bomb proof. So the protection is really really good on this shoe. So starting with this Tpu front area, this protects you from rocks from sticks the same Tpu material. They have it aligned on the side which one can help you when you go between maybe drier bushes, the sticks hitting you from the side so that's gonna protect you against that

La Sportiva Bushido 2 Review | Best Technical Mountain Running Shoe?

La Sportiva Bushido II is amazing. Insanely grippy, I keep good traction on rocks and roots even in wet weather. Can’t recommend them enough.

I have Inov-8 Mudclaws for mud, Ultra G 300 Max for trails but I have ran a few mountains recently that suit neither shoe. I need something with less flex and cushioning than the Ultra G, but less extreme than the Mudclaws. It also needs to have quite a stiff sole (perhaps a rock plate) so that when I run a cross boulder fields the sole doesn't bend round the rock.
Any suggestions?

Advice on trail running trainers for very rocky terrain.

 I've always been using boots before, and each individual boot weighed 1 lb 7.2 oz. Switching to the trail runners, with a 10.5 oz individual weight, was immediately noticeable, especially on the inclines

r/Ultralight - "The Weekly" - Week of September 27, 2021

 I tried Lowa this round. So I will see how many years they last. The Swiss swear by La Sportiva for its resoling.

Discovered that I had $240 in REI dividends today, so my Salomon 4D 3 GTX and Darn Tough merino wool socks came out to just $9!!! Happy deal hunting everyone!

Also, La Sportiva Bushidos II. Fit my feet like a glove, but with enough give for long hikes. Amazing for alpine

I have finally worn completely through my Altra superior 4.5's, and was looking for new shoe advice. I really liked the low (but not non-existent) amount of cushioning. Does anybody have a recommendation for a shoe with a similar amount of cushioning, possibly with a slightly narrower toe box and more grip? 

Most trail shoes I see online are either full cushion or totally minimal. I apologize if this is a repost, but I couldn't find any recent posts with Reddit's booty search feature.

I run 80/20 trails/streets, in a hilly coastal area with a mild climate.

Looking for shoe advice

I already own the Bushido II which hugs my narrow foot perfectly, but just falls short on cushioning on long days and I end up with hot spots and blisters on the balls of my feet. I'm looking for another shoe with a similar low-volume fit and more underfoot protection. I'm not looking for spongy/cloud-like cushioning, or a bulky shoe that would be cumbersome on technical terrain - just overall comfort from sharp rocks and steep downhills that beat up your feet.

 Very similar fit and width in the toe, but it does have a slightly softer midsole and we've got a full Vibram mega grip outsole on that shoe as well. So looking forward to getting my feet in them and giving them a thorough testing. I'd say if you're looking for that workhorse trail running shoe that's going to cross over to lots of different distances and different types of terrain and you like having that nice roomy sort of feel in the toe box of your shoes where your feet can stay relaxed and splay. Or you've always struggled for width in your trail running shoes and you feel you need a bit more space

 These features are there to make sure you feel dialed down into the midfoot of the shoe locked into the back end of that shoe so that you feel super secure so no lateral movement while you're running out on the trails. Inside that upper, in the tongue, you've got a nice level of padding and a nice level of padding around that heel collar and in the heel cup. And if you like running with gators on your trail shoes, topo have worked in some really handy attachments into the upper of the shoe. So that's a few details about the spec, but also the construction of the midsole and the upper in the Ultra Adventure 2

 The shoe is available in one colorway for men and for women and when it comes down to size, I would say it's true to size with a very good width in the toe box. Moving on to the construction of the Ultraventure 2 and it features this three piece injected Eva midsole to offer the runner a nice lightweight, cushioned and responsive ride. The outsole of the shoe is coated in Vibram's Xs Trek Evo rubber and then we've got this nice evenly spaced, aggressive lug on that outsole to give you good levels of traction while running out on technical trails. moving up to the upper in the shoe and is constructed using this lightweight and breathable engineered mesh fabric

 The cost: 135, which I think is pretty fair. I think up five bucks from the Ultraventure one. And yeah, all right, so I'm going to get into it with the upper midsole, outsole some of the takeaway points and comparisons, and close it out. So starting with the upper so the upper, they use an engineered mesh material

 Some of the other brands that have come out I've used an engineered knit, the North Face that we most recently reviewed. I'm Wear Testing A Salomon Cross Pro right now also uses an engineered knit. This is more of an engineered mesh thin, breathable. Nice difference between the Ultraventure 1 and the Ultraventure 2

 Ultra tends to swoop a little bit harder right around the big toe, but you lose a little bit in clipping off your second or third toe impact there. Probably the closest match would be the Saucony Mad River, a shoe that I also I like the Mad River one more than the two, but also has a fairly similar toe box design and shape so it just tends to work. I think with a lot of feet, natural motion feels fairly light. under the foot has a good blend of cushioning as well as protection underfoot, and the lower heel to toe angles just make it a little bit more efficient

 Let us know what you think if you get a pair, how it wears, and um, if I have any issues with it longer term with only 100 miles. I don't really have any durability issues so far. a couple of static nicks here and there, but it's holding up just fine. Outsole rubber

 Topo could update their EVA formula or use their new ZipFoam that they’re using in some of their other shoes like the Ultrafly 3, Cyclone, and Ultraventure Pro. Another area of improvement is weight.
