Budget: I am willing to spend up to $400 to improve the set-up

Non-negotiable Items: Pillow, coffee crystals 

Solo or with another person?: Mostly solo, though I do go with others sometimes 

Additional Information: Just learning about where gear gets heavy, and what expertise you lovely people have to share about how I can whittle down my pack weight!

Learning about how to be more discerning in what I pack! Critiques appreciated

 I am a sideload-only reader; I do not use the Kobo bookstore at all. I logged into it once to set up the reader (there is no way to set up the reader without either the wifi login or installing Kobo's software on your computer; the ereader is non-functional until you've set up a Kobo account for it), turned off wifi, and haven't touched it since.  I know nothing about the bookstore or its features; this is solely a review of the device, which, in my opinion, is nowhere near as good as the (no longer in production) Sony or Astak readers. It's poor enough that I won't be looking at the Kobo Glo for my next 6" reader

There's a slider bar with an imprecise touchscreen navigator; there is no way to jump ahead or back exactly 5 pages, for example

  4) When the battery is running low, the touchscreen is unresponsive. It gets harder to turn pages, and it often jumps ahead an extra page.  5) Default settings are hard to work with - it's set to only fully refresh the screen every 6 pages, which means a gradual dimming of letters and ghosting from the previous screen until the refresh. It's easy to change that to refresh every page (with a warning that this eats more battery--but still almost nothing compared to wifi usage), but you have to know the option exists

  3) Battery life indicator is, as in most ereaders, pathetic.This is not particularly a problem on its own, except..

Having owned the Kindle (w/Keyboard) for several years, I was starting to look into getting my hands on a small, pocket sized eReader. By chance, the Kobo Mini was just about to release in the US within the week, and my local Best Buy would be receiving them. So I pre-ordered after reading the scant number of reviews and user videos.  The Kobo Mini is fairly pricey at retail, but I will go ahead and say right now that if the price were cheaper (used/refurb/discount) it may become something worth looking at as something to /add/ to your reading materials

 After resuming my session from being in standby mode, the kobo screen will not register any form of touch-communication. I have tried tapping, both with my fingernail and finger tip, sliding with both, on all parts of the kobo, yet the page refuses to turn. But sometimes the mere brush of a sleeve will throw the reader in a loop, and it will jump forward 2-3 pages.  Another issue is that when I resume from standby, sometimes the kobo will back up anywhere from 1-3 pages previous to my position

 So I pre-ordered after reading the scant number of reviews and user videos.  Seriously? Just leave it all out and make this thing thin! - Screen issues: When resuming from sleep, the page first loaded seems unusually pale, moreso on the outer edges. Continuing to flip through the pages resolves this issue. Also, the page numbers in many of my books appear on the side of the screen, overlaying the text. This is also strange

 Anyhow, the only other issue I've seen is page turning. You'll tap it to turn a page and nothing happens sometimes, so you tap it again and it moves ahead two pages instead. Not sure if its that's the "freezing" people are talking about, but a minor delay in page turning? Not I think they mean total freeze up of the device.  Would I say buy this? Yes, but not on Amazon, they jack up the prices of anything on here that isn't their product
