 The improved resolution reduces the "screen door effect" somewhat, but in terms of overall image and clarity, the Vive Pro 2 was no better than my Rift S (which I do super sample at 1.7). Not worth the money

Resolution/overall clarity is no contest though. The Vive Pro 2 is **crisp.** It's like not knowing you needed glasses and then putting on a pair for the first time. It's just immediately naturely

 Some EQ software might be able to redeem the headphones slightly so I'll test that soon.

6. Glare and God Rays - Doesnt seem any worse or better then the index, same as usual. And as usual when playing games it basically doesnt matter anymore. usually just main menus etc

 FOV is improved over index. All the things i value first in a VR headset by current standards. This will def hold me over until the index 2 comes and hopefully has this kind of resolution and clarity, with their speakers, but changes the lenses to have this or larger HFOV, and stops using the typical lenses so glare and god rays become a thing of the past. Till then this headset will be my main driver for PCVR alongside my quest 2

5. Colors and contrast also look great on this headsetr and also improved then the index, Colors pop way more then they ever did on the index

 Speakers on vive pro 2 are good to me as a regular player and loud. Ill miss the extra bass on the index etc, but the rest of things abover line to be much better WOW factor and experience then better speakers. Seems to me like my index headset will be up for sale this week and ill be keeping the vive pro 2. Looks great, contract, colors, resolution, clarity are awesome

Bought a Vive Pro 2, Coming From A Valve Index, My Thoughts So Far

 It's just that this headset has so much more potential that is missed than hit. so let's just do it. I'm going to break down this review into multiple sections, starting with an overview and design, then comfort and visuals including optics fov and clarity audio from headphone to microphone with comparisons and the issues I've run into. and we'll finish with my conclusions, including the use cases that I think the Pro 2 is perfect for and what it's not perfect for

 Let's start from the top. The Pro 2 uses the exact shell of the original Pro. Not much has changed here besides the color of the plastic and you know what? I was kind of okay with that. The Pro and Pro I are both comfortable headsets and it makes sense from a business standpoint

There's so much good here, but there's also so much that falls short of expectations that I'm kind of confused as to why this even exists in its current state. And we're going to talk about all of that in every detail good, bad, and downright ugly, and hopefully get a better understanding of not just what the Vive Pro 2 is, but why

HTC Vive Pro 2 Review : A Missed Opportunity to be the Best

 While nothing can compare to an Imax screen resolution and fidelity yet, there has been great improvements since the release of the Index.

 Furthermore, the Index screen resolution is barely acceptable by today’s standards. Consumers also desire OLED like black levels in the display, but this may remain a wishlist item as most VR headset engineers seem to have widely adopted fast-switching LCD screens.

 HTC has released at least 5. (I’ll let those more knowledgeable than me explain who should get the most credit for the original Vive.)

 But it doesn’t affect me since I rarely game online. Using the same speakers that’s been clearly bypassed by almost all your competition? Either lazy or just flat-out dumb decision making at the highest level, likely both. But I can get a usb-c to 3.5mm adapter to plug in my headphones

Valve’s Slowness vs HTC’s Stupidness

 The difference becomes clear once you put on the Live Pro 2. its 5k screen offers 2448 by 2448 pixels per eye a huge sleep ahead of the 1440 by 1600 pixels per eye from the Pro. The Pro 2 also has Rgb subpixels which makes everything look a bit sharper, and I also appreciate the 120 Hertz refresh rate, which also delivers a smoother overall Vr experience. There's even a larger 120 degree field of view, which makes Vr experiences look all the more immersive

 It has great standalone Vr and you can plug it into a Pc to get some better. You know, higher end Vr and that's not too demanding either. Hp's Reverb G2 is another solid option, mainly for its resolution. Uh, though I'm not a huge fan of those controllers

 You probably won't notice the difference between those two resolutions at first, but once you start looking at finer details like blades of grass or grain on wood, you'll see the benefits of having a higher resolution pretty easily. Hopping back into Super Hot almost made me feel like I was playing Super Hot too. The game's introductory Cyberpunk room just had so much more detail on this headset that I couldn't really stop staring at everything. And the game itself looks really simple, but I still noticed more detail in the character models and the way weapons looked in the overall environment

HTC Vive Pro 2 review: 5K VR done right

Hilariously, the 5K display in this headset highlighted how many of my favorite games and apps are in need of an upgrade. While something like Half Life: Alyx looked incredible, the Vive Pro 2 revealed some of the weaker visuals in Star Trek: Bridge Crew.

Like the rest of the headset, HTC's controllers are the same gloriously big chunkers we've had from the start, only now in a blue to match the headset. They work great, and the batteries last plenty long, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't eager to pick up my Valve Knuckles to use them instead.

Also, I can't get an ideal fit, which results in the headset being prone to moving around during intense gameplay in games such as Blade & Sorcery (thus losing the focal sweet spot). - Not a weakness of the headset, but HTC has yet to come up with a competitor to the Valve Index controller which themselves are far from perfect  Despite all the flaws, this is still my most recommended VR headset for the clarity, addons, and because I only recommend SteamVR headsets due to Valve Index controller compatibility and SteamVR base stations which are as good as tracking gets right now. Also, despite all the flaws, I still consider VR gaming to be a must-have, and it is the way I'd want to play most of my favorite games if it were possible

 - Very expensive, especially considering it doesn't even come with eye tracking despite the fact that the Vive Pro Eye does, and considering it doesn't come with the wireless adapter which still hasn't been updated to support a larger resolution - Very narrow focal sweet spot - Screen uses out of date LCD technology with poor contrast which cannot deliver true blacks - FOV still lower than ideal - Inferior headphone solution compared to the Valve Index - Poor microphone quality - Cable sleeving quality isn't great, seems like it will undergo the same kinking and wear and tear that my Index did, for which the cable is damaged enough to occasionally lose video signal entirely after just 1 year of use. HTC Vive Pro 2 - The Best of a Bad Situation

With the 1080ti, I got about 45fps at "high" settings (i.e., reduced resolution) in Il-2 BoX. The 3080 supports Ultra settings in the console (which is great; I can finally use the full resolution) and I can get about 90fps, but it's not stable, and I get some stuttering, particularly when moving my head

 I can't figure out how to enable that. I tried capping the frame rate in NVIDIA control panel, as well as setting throttling to 45fps (11ms extra prediction) in SteamVR settings. But neither seems to have any effect. Is there a way to force the automatic throttling I was getting when using the 1080 TI?

 Audio is poop (no bass). Microphone is poop. SDE is gone. Weight distribution is better, but does not fit my head properly

  I've always found the the SDE on the VP1 pretty much disappears once I'm actually playing a game in any case.

The VP2 is a solid headset compared to other options out there...I think it's probably a step-up from the Index in most respects, and on par with the G2, with each having different strong points, but while the industry seems to be moving away from OLED panels and conventional optical lenses in favor of LCD panels and Fresnel lenses, I'm not sure I can move on with them

I noticed a lot of people have been comparing against the Index or the G2.  I haven't used either of those, I've gone from the Vive to the Vive Pro to the Vive Pro 2.  I'm running a 1080 so was only able to set the resolution to "high".  I've been trying to get a new GPU since the 3080 came out but haven't had any luck.

Sadly there is no "best" headset yet, each one has pros and cons, and the Pro 2 has some pretty bad cons.

# Optics

I use the foam that came with the headset.  I know there are thinner foams, but even squishing the included foam down until the plastic hits my face doesn't make a "wow that was worth it!" difference in the FOV.

* The vertical FOV is quite similar, but squared off.  This would be easy to get used to.
* The horizontal FOV is better but not in any game changing way.
* The glare is far worse in high contrast scenes.  Something bright in the center of a dark environment lights up the edges of the lenses.
* God rays seem reduced.
* The sweet spot is similar, maybe a bit smaller.  Perfectly fine once you get it in the right spot on your head.
* The distortion as you move your head is worse.

# Display

It is a lot closer to the original Vive for color/contrast/blacks/brightness.  Compared to the Vive Pro: 

* Colors are more vibrant.
* It is brighter.
* Contrast is better.
* Even the black levels seem better.
* There is a dynamic backlight brightness, that you can both see and unfortunately hear.  The backlight brightness lags behind the screen content a bit.  It is mainly noticeable during a quick cut from bright to dark.
* The resolution/clarity is great!  You can still see a pixel grid but it is finally almost gone.  Even though I can't run it at the native resolution there is no contest.
* The motion smoothing provided by the Vive software is terrible.  Granted I think the SteamVR's motion smoothing is pretty bad too.  Normal reprojection works fine.

# Comfort

It feels heavier with more of the weight on your face.  The fit is identical the Pro.  The feel of the headphones is nicer, more squishy.

# Audio

Disappointing, which is saying something since the Pro's audio wasn't all that great unless you modded it to apply a lot more pressure.  Mids and highs are similar.  Lows are more pronounced and very muddy.

The dealbreaker in the audio department is a constant low buzz that raises and lowers based on how bright the scene is.  I assume there is some sort of interference caused by the backlight driver that seems unlikely to be fixed by software updates.
