Hoka Evo Speedgoat vs Hoka Torrent 2

I want a shoe that has the cushion and drop of my Hoka Speedgoat with the toebox of my Altra Olympus 4.0.

I really like how soft it is and the rubber outsole is. You know it's a rubber outsole so it's definitely going to hold up really well. I'm not seeing...

Beware they do run very narrow at the toe and are not for everyone. If you needed the extra toe room you could look to the Hoka EVO Speedgoat,. EVO Mafate 2 or the Mafate Speed 3, all of which are high cushioned but have a stretchy bit of fabric over the toe, which can make the fit more accommodating.

Torrent 2, (only used these on trails and they’re fine. Low profile for Hokas though the speedgoats offer more cushion). The only shoes I’ve had from Hoka that didn’t fit were the Rocket Carbon - far too narrow all the way through despite being a size 9. They also do a wide fit in a few models if you’re really broad footed but I would say they are fine in regular

extended scree or volcanic above treeline where a lower stack height for stability and rigidity is desired.

Seems though that Sense Ride 4 and the Ultra Glide might be a bit more cushioned. VJ Ultra is also getting good reviews, but they are quite expensive.

I’ve done a couple ultras in loose snow, which felt a lot like running in sand to me. I’ve used both the SpeedCross and Hoka SpeedGoat. The ‘goats might have had the advantage due to the much wider sole helping with flotation, but I felt they got a lot heavier when wet. In all instances I studded the soles with about 8 sheet metal screws at the end of some select lugs, which I felt helped with a little extra grip even when ice wasn’t an issue

They take time getting used to, but overall the grip is 100% better. I really like their proprietary rubber outsole.

For years I wore boots (really heavy), then shoes (heavy) and now trail runners (not so heavy). I prefer the Hoka One Speedgoat trail runners. They are good for dry conditions, have great grip and stability (for me). I have never had ankle stability issues, so it works great

Settled with the Hoka Torrent 2, cushion still feels great but more stable (lower stack) than the ATRs and relatively lightweight. They're not the most rugged but work well for hard packed trails with some trees and rocks that are around here. I would have liked to try to Nike trail shoes or the New Balance Hierro but nowhere he has them.
