 And if I find myself with a bass with misrepresented specs, it's something that I really need to mention. I found this particular example quite egregious given how long it was going on. So I feel like it was my duty to at least say something and not just continue to review the bass and say it has humbuckers. I'm glad that we were able to have a resolution to this, though

  Some might not notice a difference but I hear a smoother vintage like tone with the tone knob all the way off. And also with the tone on it just seems to help give less expensive pickups a smoother tone.  I prefer this bass using the front pickup only and the tone all the way off, vintagey. Sometimes both pickups

 Don't get me wrong. But I do prefer the neck pickup or the two mixed together. Now, you know me. I like to dig in hard with a pick, but I think my favorite thing to do with this bass is play fingerstyle

 And I think these mini humbuckers contribute to that even more, which make it really... It really owns what it is, this bass

 They are so, so smooth to twist. So the controls on this are just a master tone, a master volume and then a toggle switch. I suppose in terms of versatility it would have been better if there was individual volumes for the pickups but there are still plenty of tones in there regardless with that three way toggle switch. On a more affordable basis I'm looking out for certain things

Ibanez 2019 SR500E Bass Guitar

Or at least no longer a great deal. 4-5 years ago back when they were US$275 new they were steals, but now that they're $430 plus tax and shipping, they're no longer this amazing moneyball solution, they're at best a decent bass at a fair price. In my opinion if you've got $500 to spend on a bass I'd get a used Mexican Fender or Ibanez SR500, that's where the real value is at that price point.

So, I play guitar, for like 9 years now.

Aaand I wanna get into bass as well, buuut I'm on a pretty tight budget.

So I've been looking at two basses at &lt;500€, which are a Squier Classic Vibe 70s Jazz Bass, and a Sire Marcus Miller V5 Alder

So the Sire is around 80€ more expensive, which, in my situation, is a good chunk of cash - which I could in theory spend though

My question is: is the Sire a significant upgrade from the squier? I know it's got a roasted maple neck and all, but is that a big factor, if I'm going to distort my sound either way (I mainly play metal)?

[Question] What bass to go for as a beginner?

On the plus side, it's comfortable, nice to play, good quality for the price. The preamp offers many possibilities once you've figured out the controls, and it also has a passive mode. The pickups work well in both mode, and they have 4 wires so if you know how to solder you can add switches to get more sound options.

Ibanez vs Sire

the main reason to get a SR500 is I believe those are the cheapest Ibanez that have those sweet bartolini pickups. I have a 500 and it's great, I think if you get a used one in good condition and give it a proper setup it will make you very happy

Ibanez SR305 vs SR505: worth the extra$?

Ibanez is pretty lightweight. The SR series by Ibanez is a good way to go. I used to own an SR500 and it was a great bass. It’s a bass I certainly miss and if you can find a pre-owned one in good shape they tend to be priced pretty reasonably
