It helps me stand up straighter when I'm hiking and It also gives me some breathability as you can see a lot of my back is exposed You know can slip my hand through how that really hurt But yeah That's just how I like to wear the pack everything's just tight enough to where the pack doesn't bounce around and move around too much But you know super comfortable pack worn it for hours and hours on end But yeah another advantage to having super loose straps is When my shoulders get tired and start hurting I can just slip my arms in Keep my hands like this takes the weight off my shoulders. Let's gives my arms a rest That magnetic Clip makes it super easy and convenient, you know, if I need water just keeps the tube right here and That water bottle holder also makes it easier to get water versus trying to like have a Try and reach back here that just that hurts a lot So I just keep this right here But yeah, that's that's me with the bag That's that's me with the pack again

So Let's head back inside because it's freezing out, you know, give you my thoughts and opinions on it So I've owned this pack for a year and a half Probably got anywhere from a couple to a few hundred miles into it Mostly day hikes to get a good workout in but also lots of overnight trips and weekend trips as well It's a great pack very comfortable Has never caused me any pain There's lots of space inside and I really like all the pockets For quick and easy access and allowing me to organize everything how I want if the dog does go with me on a trip There's still plenty of room left over which makes it easier to add all of his stuff as well Packs got no signs of wear and tear like none Maybe few dirt stains and the occasional loose thread, but that's easily fixed with a lighter The shoulder straps and hip belt cushioning still like new no issues there The only gripe I could think of is that none of the pack material is waterproof, but very few packs have that feature I would definitely buy this pack again

Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60 - Long Longterm Review

 I was a little skeptical about this pad that they have in the back of the pack here but it was surprisingly comfortable and breathable. So I used Gossamer Gear's optional cell phone pocket and it's this little nylon pocket. It's padded. It velcros right to the shoulder strap and it worked really well to keep my phone out of the water and protected

 It got a little deeper than what I anticipated because I'm wet all the way up to my chest strap. The chest strap has this piece of elastic right here which makes the strap pretty comfortable, allows a little bit of flex there. The hip strap has this nice plastic clip, very sturdy, easy enough to adjust with these straps. It has two hip pockets there, very nice for carrying things like bug spray or your pocket knife

 There's another pocket on the top here. On the back there's this mesh pocket which was great for carrying my water shoes because I knew that they would dry out easily inside the mesh pocket so there's plenty of storage on the outside of this pack. On the bottom there are these two plastic clips that are made for carrying trekking poles and there's also this lashing loop which is made for carrying something like an ice axe. There are two adjustable straps with clips on this side and on this side so you just undo those two clips

 It's a 60 liter backpack from Gossamer Gear and I was able to use it this past weekend on a backpacking trip in north Georgia. I did 3 days and 25 miles and I have to say I was really, really impressed with this pack. The weight in the pack, it really carried well. Most of the packs that I've tried after, you know, 15, 20 miles, it starts to really wear on your hips

I’m at the point where my backpack is the next most logical place to drop significant lbs as it currently makes up about 25% of my base weight.  I’m looking for a pack in the 55 liter (+/-) range and around 2lbs (+/-). Most of my trips are long weekends. I love my Mystery Ranch Glacier but it is way too big and heavy for short trips where I’m not loaded down with backup gear for the kids. Thanks for any recommendations.

 It has another side pocket on the top here that is wonderful. The big pockets on the side for water bottles here I put two one liter water bottles in this side and this side I put my trekking pole or even my tent can go on this side. This long pocket at the top. Anyway just a great pack and it carries a lot of weight very well

 I just bought this pack with my own money and absolutely love it. It's well made. I'll put the fabric on here but this Rovik fabric I think it is is very sturdy and has had no issues for the last two and a half years. But adding this sit pad on the back it goes from a 9 to a 10 for me because it is so much more comfortable

 Sometimes I'll use a granite gear pack but most of the time I really like the Gossamer Gear Mariposa. It's a 60 liter pack. I'll put some of the specifications, the specs on the screen here about it but it has this great mesh panel on the front. It's got a good side pocket and what sold me on it as you've seen before is this longer side pocket on one side

 It has kind of a u-shaped frame running down the inside and it has this great place to put the pad in and then everything is attached there at the bottom. So a wonderful, wonderful place for that. I thought about getting a z-seed or something else and put it in there but then I saw this and you can see just how more substantial the foam is on this. How well it's made around the corners, all the stitching and it really is a comfortable pad

6 ounces—significantly less than the medium version of the Mariposa with a hipbelt. But with only three external pockets (none of which zip), the Arc Blast is limited in its organizational capacity, and we find that it doesn’t carry a load as well. If pack weight is your number one consideration, it’s hard to argue against the Arc Blast. But we give the overall edge to the Gossamer Gear Mariposa for its added carrying comfort, organization, and durability

 Similar to the Mariposa, the Flash excels at comfort and support, even with heavier loads, but REI doesn’t offer the same convenience of customizing torso lengths and hipbelt sizes. And at 2 pounds 3 ounces for the most stripped-down version (i.e. no top lid or hipbelt pockets), the Flash 55 is still heavier than the fully featured Mariposa

My initial post (and quest for a business/travel one bag solution) can be seen below.

I've gone way down the rabbit hole of purchasing/returning/trialing a bunch of different backpacks that are under $150 (mostly $100 or less).  I still haven't been able to find the perfect match and wanted to reach back out to you wonderful folks for more suggestions and support in narrowing down this search even further.  I think I've narrowed down my criteria even moreso than initially.

Here's what I've already tried and my general thoughts (it's a long list, peeps):

*Samsonite Modern Utility Travel Backpack* \- My currently daily driver that I'm testing.  I mostly like this....and it has almost everything I need...but it's a bit heavy...and I can't fit as much in its clamshell opening.  

*Osprey Porter 30* \- I ALMOST love this bag...but those straight jacket compression straps are super inconvenient for business use.  I'm in and out of my bag every day while meeting with clients reaching for cables/cordsets/etc.  The non-removable straps of the Osprey Porter 30 make getting in/out of the bag very difficult.  

*eBags Pro Slim Weekender* \- This bag was too large.

*eBags Citylink Travel* \- I wanted to like this bag more, but it's just got too much going on.  Almost too much organization...and everything feels a bit too plasticky - especially the zippers.  Plus, there are compression straps that get in the way of the side zippers.  

*SwissGear Getaway Weekend* \- I found it too small to pack more than a days worth of clothes in it.  And, not that I'm surprised considering it's $50 price tag, but it definitely feels more cheaply made and like it won't last long-term.

*Matein Travel Backpack* \- Too large.  Too many straps.

*Bange Travel Backpack* \- Too many straps.  Feels way too cheap.  And it came folded in half and never regained its shape.

*Osprey Daylite Plus 26+6* \- I actually liked this one a lot because of its compact form...but it has terrible front pocket organization - and no separate laptop compartment area.  Otherwise, not bad.  It can fit quite a bit of stuff.

Whew.  That was a mouthful.  I've probably left off a bag or two, but those are the main ones I've trialed...and I'm still on the search for my optimal one bag solution.

So, here's my adjusted criteria now:

**Must Haves**

\- At least 25 liter capacity.  I don't want to get too large a pack because it needs to be an EDC, but it needs to be at least 25 liters to fit a few days of clothes (and gym items).

\- Compact form factor that is close-ish to a standard backpack and can be considered as a "personal item" on certain airlines.  Maybe the ability to expand and compress would be great so that I can slim it down when mainly using it as a business laptop EDC, but then being able to expand it when needing to use it for extended overnight stays.  I definitely don't want a larger pack that stays large (mainly in terms of depth) even when I only need it for simple use cases.

\- Clamshell opening - this gives me the most flexibility in case I want to use packing cubes or not and also allows me to pack easier, see everything at once, and even just open my bag and leave it opened at my hotel room.  I typically pack a pair of pants (khakis), 2 polo shirts, undershirt, boxers, socks, and workout clothes (shoes, shorts, shirt).  I'm actually slightly open to a standard opening instead of a clamshell...if everything else checks the boxes...but prefer clamshell if possible.

\- Front Pocket Organization and Easy Access - I will mainly use this as a business laptop backpack where I will occasionally pack for shorter business trips 2-3 days. For the most part, I need easy access to cables, cords, other hardware items when visiting clients (I'm a sales engineer). Also, easy access to the front pockets and laptop compartment is a must.  I've seen and tried out a pack or two with non-removable front straps that make easy access difficult.  

\- Reasonably Durable - I take this backpack on/off multiple times a day at a variety of random environments (outdoors, indoors, in dirty manufacturing plants, in standard offices, etc.).  It doesn't have to be military-grade durable like the GoRucks of the world, but just something that can handle non-office type environments.

\- Quality Zippers - I will be opening/closing the zippers a lot throughout a day.

\- Padded Straps and Back - Nothing crazy, but just enough to be comfortable when wearing for hours at a time.

**Nice to Haves**

\- Under $200.  I initially was looking for something under $100, but I'm willing to up my spending a little if there's something that's the correct fit.

\- Amazon Availability - This is the easiest way for me to try stuff out/send it back.  I'm open to other retail outlets, but they have to have a no-frills/no hassle return policy.  I really won't know if I've found the "right" bag until I get it in my hands and try it out.

\- Compression Straps - I'm open to this, but they cannot get in the way of accessing zippers and if they were removable/hidable, then that would be ideal.  I don't like bags that have a bunch of cords/straps hanging off them.  I guess it's fine if you're going hiking or going to be wearing the bag for hours/days on end, but I won't be doing that.  It'll mainly be worn for half hour periods during work days and maybe an hour or so during travel days.

\- Lightweight - As lightweight as possible would be preferred because I will be mainly using this with a laptop and a few other hardware items.  The Samsonite Modern Utility Travel backpack I use now is good, but it isn't the lightest in the world.  And it isn't the most comfortable.  I could see it being a hassle carrying it on my back when filled up with items.

\- Modern looking - Not a must, but it would be nice.  I like the look of the Bellroy Transit and the Knack Series of bags.

\- Side Handle - I doubt I'll use it in "briefcase" mode often, but this would be a nice value add feature.

\- Stowable Straps - This kind of goes in line with the point above.  If I'm carrying it as a "carry on" style bag or as a briefcase, then it'd be nice to tuck away the straps.  Some bags have this option as standard...and some don't.  Seems hit or miss.

\- Waterproof - I doubt I'll be using this to hike or in any scenario where I'll be traveling outside in inclement weather, but it'd be nice to have.

\- Lifetime Warranty - Every bag I've owned for work (mostly cheaper bags) have never last more than a few years before having zipper issues or getting a hole in them.  A lifetime warranty would give me a peace of mind.

So, there you have it.  A tremendously long and overly detailed post.  I'm still on the search for my ideal one-size-fits-all type bag, but I am opening the search and suggestions back up to the Reddit community for additional input. 

Help me out, Peeps!  I feel like I'm deep in the weeds...and need some practical input and suggestions from folks who've found their precious.

I&#39;ve gone way down the rabbit hole of purchasing/returning/trialing a bunch of different backpacks that are under $150 (mostly $100 or less). I still haven&#39;t been able to find the perfect match and wanted to reach back out to you wonderful folks for more suggestions and support in narrowing down this search even further. I think I&#39;ve narrowed down my criteria even moreso than initially.

Here&#39;s what I&#39;ve already tried and my general thoughts (it&#39;s a long list, peeps):

Samsonite Modern Utility Travel Backpack - My currently daily driver that I&#39;m testing. I mostly like this....and it has almost everything I need...but it&#39;s a bit heavy...and I can&#39;t fit as much in its clamshell opening. 

Osprey Porter 30 - I ALMOST love this bag...but those straight jacket compression straps are super inconvenient for business use. I&#39;m in and out of my bag every day while meeting with clients reaching for cables/cordsets/etc. The non-removable straps of the Osprey Porter 30 make getting in/out of the bag very difficult. 

eBags Pro Slim Weekender - This bag was too large.

eBags Citylink Travel - I wanted to like this bag more, but it&#39;s just got too much going on. Almost too much organization...and everything feels a bit too plasticky - especially the zippers. Plus, there are compression straps that get in the way of the side zippers. 

SwissGear Getaway Weekend - I found it too small to pack more than a days worth of clothes in it. And, not that I&#39;m surprised considering it&#39;s $50 price tag, but it definitely feels more cheaply made and like it won&#39;t last long-term.

Matein Travel Backpack - Too large. Too many straps.

Bange Travel Backpack - Too many straps. Feels way too cheap. And it came folded in half and never regained its shape.

Osprey Daylite Plus 26+6 - I actually liked this one a lot because of its compact form...but it has terrible front pocket organization - and no separate laptop compartment area. Otherwise, not bad. It can fit quite a bit of stuff.

Whew. That was a mouthful. I&#39;ve probably left off a bag or two, but those are the main ones I&#39;ve trialed...and I&#39;m still on the search for my optimal one bag solution.

So, here&#39;s my adjusted criteria now:

Must Haves

- At least 25 liter capacity. I don&#39;t want to get too large a pack because it needs to be an EDC, but it needs to be at least 25 liters to fit a few days of clothes (and gym items).

- Compact form factor that is close-ish to a standard backpack and can be considered as a &quot;personal item&quot; on certain airlines. Maybe the ability to expand and compress would be great so that I can slim it down when mainly using it as a business laptop EDC, but then being able to expand it when needing to use it for extended overnight stays. I definitely don&#39;t want a larger pack that stays large (mainly in terms of depth) even when I only need it for simple use cases.

- Clamshell opening - this gives me the most flexibility in case I want to use packing cubes or not and also allows me to pack easier, see everything at once, and even just open my bag and leave it opened at my hotel room. I typically pack a pair of pants (khakis), 2 polo shirts, undershirt, boxers, socks, and workout clothes (shoes, shorts, shirt). I&#39;m actually slightly open to a standard opening instead of a clamshell...if everything else checks the boxes...but prefer clamshell if possible.

- Front Pocket Organization and Easy Access - I will mainly use this as a business laptop backpack where I will occasionally pack for shorter business trips 2-3 days. For the most part, I need easy access to cables, cords, other hardware items when visiting clients (I&#39;m a sales engineer). Also, easy access to the front pockets and laptop compartment is a must. I&#39;ve seen and tried out a pack or two with non-removable front straps that make easy access difficult. 

- Reasonably Durable - I take this backpack on/off multiple times a day at a variety of random environments (outdoors, indoors, in dirty manufacturing plants, in standard offices, etc.). It doesn&#39;t have to be military-grade durable like the GoRucks of the world, but just something that can handle non-office type environments.

- Quality Zippers - I will be opening/closing the zippers a lot throughout a day.

- Padded Straps and Back - Nothing crazy, but just enough to be comfortable when wearing for hours at a time.

Nice to Haves

Still on the Hunt for a Business-First EDC with a Clamshell Opening for 2-3 Nights Travel

 The webbing is a little bit skinnier too,, which matches a bag of this size. You Really don't need a ton to keep that sternum strap on and intact on your chest. Moving Down, we have some nice Nifco strap adjusters, however there are not any elastic loops here to manage excess straps. The Back panel is pretty stiff, and there are some channels here for airflow,

 There's plenty of room in the main pockets to slide a couple packing cubes inside, and just be ready to go. Now, I Will say that this 26 liters feels a little bit smaller than what we've seen in other packs, most of which are clamshell, so that top bucket may have something to do with it. You Know,, it doesn't fully open up like we've seen in other bags, but it does feel a little smaller than other 26 liter packs. In The two weeks of testing, there's not a ton to cover on durability either

. (upbeat music) Kicking It off with the harness system, let's see what's going on for this 26 liter day pack.. The Straps themselves have a nice density to them

 But again,, just like the straps,, there is no mesh on the backside either. There's just a couple of nitpicks I have with this zipper. First of all,, it's hard to tell the zipper apart compared to the other two zippers in the top flap. Second, it's hard to get behind the fabric of the front pocket in order to get access to this zipper, it kind of just disappears behind that fabric well,, and there's not a big zipper pull to grab
