Laptop

GoRuck GR1
I’m looking for a bag for commuting + under seat on airplanes. What fits both criteria best?
Other models I'd consider, similarly sized with solid laptop storage, are the GoRuck GR1 (both the 21L and 26L version will fit a 16" MacBook Pro or similar) and the Tom Bihn Synik 30 (thicker laptops might not fit). The Osprey Daylite 26+6 has a decent laptop sleeve with a quick-access zipper but not a separate padded compartment like I'd prefer.

Not great to get a backpack with another person's dirty socks!
I ordered this laptop to replace the last one I had for a few years. I enjoyed using it for all my needs and while I wish the handle had lasted longer I was happy with it overall. I went online and ordered another one. I was going out of town for a very important trip and started to get it ready onl...

GORUCK GR1 (26L) - Carryology - Exploring better ways to carry
Sometimes it feels like the whole world is getting on the GORUCK wagon. Blending a conservative aesthetic that fits in a work space, with a military spec that can John Rambo through war zones, the GR1 is a super-versatile workhorse. It ain’t cheap, but it will definitely last. It looks just as good ...

DO NOT BUY THIS POORLY CONSTRUCTED BACKPACK!!!!
I bought this Targus backpack to replace my previous Targus backpack that - after 11 years - developed an issue with the zipper. Within a few weeks of receiving the new Targus backpack the fabric around the zipper frayed resulting in two holes. I have never seen anything so poorly made. I am especia...

Size

GoRuck GR1
Spirit and Frontier are both 18"x14x8, and there are lots of bags that fit these dimensions, probably the most popular being the Topo CorePack and the GoRuck GR1, both of which are 18" tall. But JetBlue's limit is 17"x13x8 (43.2 x 33 x 20.32 cm). Neither I nor anybody else know how strict they're going to be about it, but I try to play by the rules. I've got a GR2 and I don't think I could make it a full inch shorter just by underpacking, so I assume the GR1 would be similar.

Seems Durable, Elastic Thread A Bit Weak, Very Large
This backpack is huge. As a one-hour a day commuter, five days a week to my college campus, I needed something that could hold all my stuff, books, notebooks, calculator, laptop, papers, pencils, pens, erasers, headphones, sunglasses, stapler, flash drives, water bottle(s), gym clothes, mouse, power...

Compartment

GoRuck GR1
Nothing wrong with a less modern but more pragmatic bag, but I think it doesn't suit my line of work. To give an idea of what design I'm looking for, I like the minimal look of the Goruck GR1 Slick, but I'm unsure about carrying around a 1000D bag in the city. I've also checked out the Tom Bihn Paragon that has a similar design, but I can't find too much information on it.

This bag, I like it. Another!
I bought this bag a little over a year ago now (as a work bag so it gets a lot of use) and there is enough wear and tear (more tear than wear) that I now need to replace it. If I knew how to sew or knew someone that could I could no doubt get my bag repaired with ease and use it for several more yea...

Big guy looking for a bag solution
Goruck GR1 26L, but maybe you can wait till they will do upgrade, like they did with Rucker 20. Tom Bihn Synapse 25 or Synik 30 maybe. I own S25 and it’s pretty comfortable, but I don’t trust backpack with manny zippers during heavy rains. I’m mostly a rolltop person.

Hiking

GoRuck GR1
I currently have a Goruck GR1 that I love, but I feel like I don't really benefit from the clamshell opening. I mainly get around by train and on my bike, so I rarely have the time and space to lay my pack flat. I got my GR1 because I needed one versatile pack for EDC, light travel, and everything else.

Not too big, not too small, exactly what I was looking for
I was looking for a 17' computer bag I could take to the office and also on weekend trips. What I didn't want was an oversized bag that looked like I was about to go to Europe for a month or something priced so low it's guaranteed to fall apart with everyday usage. This bag has everything I could as...
