Playability

[GEAR] Fender MIM Strat vs Squier JMJM?

I’d suggest trying to go play them if you can! Also check out the G&L Tribute series. Brilliant instruments for great prices.

On the plus side, it's comfortable, nice to play, good quality for the price. The preamp offers many possibilities once you've figured out the controls, and it also has a passive mode. The pickups work well in both mode, and they have 4 wires so if you know how to solder you can add switches to get more sound options.

Weight

A seriously heavy bass (in evey way)

The blue stain is absolutely stunning and the fretwork is about average for a guitar in this price range. The neck is a thing of beauty with wonderful watering in the maple thats so deep you might even think that there are divots in the finish! So if you want an extremely versatile stage or studio bass then you simply cannot go wrong with this axe. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that this bass is HEAVY. While it balances quite well the swamp ash body seems to still have about half the swamp in it cause it weighs a ton and if you have a bad back this is not the bass for you, unless you play in a band where sitting is acceptable

Recommendations for lightweight basses?

Ibanez is pretty lightweight. The SR series by Ibanez is a good way to go. I used to own an SR500 and it was a great bass. It’s a bass I certainly miss and if you can find a pre-owned one in good shape they tend to be priced pretty reasonably
