 But for all intents and purposes, they are modeled after real 59 PAF pickups. Now, Gibson was the first to do this. Do the semi-hollow design like the 335, but since then, plenty of other builders and manufacturers have gotten into the game producing their own semi-hollow body designs. This is my Novo Miris and on paper, it's pretty similar to a 335

 That was the very first time I ever performed in public with this guitar. This is my 2010 Memphis Made Gibson ES335. This guitar has been through thick and thin with me. This is the one alongside my pink sparkle novo that if the house was on fire and everyone was safe, this is the one that I would run in and grab

 I've played hundreds upon hundreds of gigs and sessions with this guitar. It's been all over North America and Canada and Mexico with me on tour and through all that time, through all those gigs and practices and performances, both good and terrible, I've learned that this is probably the most versatile guitar ever. In fact, in my opinion, I think the ES335 is the best electric guitar design ever. To me, the semi-hollow double humbucker three-way toggle switch design is the one guitar to rule them all

 Also, I picked the color from Back to the Future. A lot of people have commented over the years of me teaching guitar. the Back to the Future you know is one of the movies that made them want to play guitar so I thought it'd be fun to kind of connect to that vibe a little bit. Now the C shaped neck is just really good because I don't have you know, John Mayer hands or Hendrix hands or whatever and I've always gotten comfort out of that C shaped neck

 Alright you guys here it is. It's in Cherry just like Back to the Future that's why I picked it. Block inlays just like BB King All the specs are what I like in a Es-335 and we'll go through and play it all. So big! Thanks and shout out to Gibson Guitars are being so cool and working with me on this

 so I decided the block inlays and especially because BB Kings Lucille had block inlays now I Love the classic Legends BB King Jimmy Page Eric Clapton Played a 335 and creamed The pickups in. Here are the Memphis historic specs which are as closely based on the classic PAF's as they've gotten so far, thus getting those tones from Clapton BB King Jimmy Page the classic Gibson players. So I did put a lot of thought into it I've got a little bit of back to the future. We got a little bit of BB King and then with the Memphis historic Specht pickups, we got that classic Jimmy Page sound that you would get right from something like Led Zeppelin or Eric Clapton and cream

 the Back to the Future you know is one of the movies that made them want to play guitar so I thought it'd be fun to kind of connect to that vibe a little bit. Now the C shaped neck is just really good because I don't have you know, John Mayer hands or Hendrix hands or whatever and I've always gotten comfort out of that C shaped neck. I've always just preferred a Es-335 to a Les Paul it's a little bit lighter I Like being having the choice of getting a little jazzier and bluesier but still having that kind of oomph and power of a Les Paul Another thing I decided on that I wanted were the block inlays. Planning to get some axes that I'd use for recording. I already have a great amp, recording setup, and everything else needed for an electric. Hypothetically, if I want as much versatility across multiple genres as possible with two guitars, or one guitar, which ones would I get for $500? 

Sky's the limit, I'm not really picky, though I'd prefer to do as little major upgrading like pickup changes as possible (setting up is fine, as are minor upgrades like sanding fret edges)

I'm also making this because I want to see some interesting discussions in the comments. Thanks!

 Yeah, a little. uh. Victory Dp-40 Uh, obviously. I think the neon yellow cable probably was the yeah, that's the made the difference

 But well, today we are looking at well, probably the guitar that I think you know all the really good session players and guitar players of all time I think would generally say that the 335 is the ultimate most versatile guitar. They would like to do that, whether that's true or not. Of course is a matter of personal opinion. But when you talk to people like you know, uh, Larry Carlton and Robin Ford and Marty Mcfly Martin

 Uh, so everything now is made in Nashville, apart from acoustic guitars which is still made up in Bozeman, Montana because the climate's better for making acoustic guitars apparently. Yeah, Um, so the uh, the easy way to understand that when you're looking at a 335 or any of the Es series from Gibson. If it's got a year in the model number, then it's custom shop and it's built super high end, historically correct level. And if it hasn't got a year in the name, like an Es355 standard or something that'll be made alongside things like the Les Paul standard in the like, the normal Nashville Uh facility

 it's incredible. But when we went to the what is it who name it name a good like like Ralph Lauren. If you're watching, please, you need it. You need to forget your Polo aftershave old spice

Since regular American made electric guitars are close to custom shop prices these days, it makes sense to look at custom shop guitars first. You like the fender style guitars, so look at a Suhr, look at the PRS Silver Sky, look at Fender Customs, look at some of the small builders. Also prices of special release and custom models from Fender and Gibson keep on going up. If you buy today and hold for a few years you could make a little profit

Being that I rarely splurge on myself and have a bit of disposable income, I'd like to buy a new, good-quality guitar that I will hopefully have forever. I know that guitars come in all prices, but I'm wondering how much I should be looking to spend on this. How much is too much? And how much is too little?

[Question] How much should I spend on my forever guitar?

 I don't see anything unusual going on there that I know that person will be in the comments asking questions about that, or at least on the Facebook group. But yeah, everything else feels really great to me. and this to me, this is like a clear shot across the bow at Made in Mexico Fender Guitars 850 bucks. That's where Mexican Strats are starting these days, isn't it? I think that's where they're starting with the, um, the player line

 and I have actually played uh, the more expensive version of the Silver Sky at various stores and been impressed with them. I honestly have fond memories of playing them and thinking like wow, this honestly feels really good and this sounds really good And I'm pretty impressed with all the little like hardware tweaks that they made, like all the unique knobs and the unique uh, jack plate and stuff like that and the switch tip. I love that sort of stuff. Anytime someone reinvents the wheel a little bit with hardware and makes it look good, I'm kind of excited about it

 Sweetwater was very generous to source me with this. They sourced me with one of their demo guitars from what I can tell based on the sticker on that box, and I I greatly appreciate it. So if you're shopping, uh, consider buying one of these or something else from Sweetwater with the link below so that they can see that this sort of thing pays off for them. [Laughter] You don't have to do it, do whatever you want, but I'm just saying it would help

Brutally Honest Gear Review #7: PRS SE SILVER SKY!

 Um, but here it just says Prs not and if it was bone or if it was Graphtec, they'd probably list it. Which leads me to believe it's probably a basic plastic nut, but this guitar has been holding tuned very well and as you guys know, I like to play on a guitar for about a month before I ever consider bringing it to the channel. and such is the case here. And this guitar does hold tunes, so even though it's not a bone nut, it's cut nice and it holds tuned so that's good

 And if you want the abalone birds you will have to look somewhere else. But I think for a more yeah vintage or classic look, these ones look good. Now as for the body, well let's start by looking at the back. Now the first thing to note is we get a contoured heel joint and a very nice classy looking neck plate as well

 Hits the mark classy, looks good, you know, and then on the front, just plain plastic, so I think even just a simple engraving of silver sky right there. That's all it would take. It would class it up, it would look great. Um, and you know, on a guitar that doesn't say anything

 Now as for the body, well let's start by looking at the back. Now the first thing to note is we get a contoured heel joint and a very nice classy looking neck plate as well. Love that that's a great touch on this guitar. Uh, you get the pure scoop there

 Yeah, all the pickups sound fantastic and they're usable as well. with that tone control on the bridge pickup, that's that's a that's a godsend. The feel of it again. The neck is very very very close to mine and it feels fantastic
