If you only need to measure heart rate and you don't already own or want to buy a high-end Garmin tracker, there's no point in getting the HRM-Run. If you have any other Garmin device, such as the Vivoactive ($64.95 at Holabird Sports)(Opens in a new window) , I'd recommend Garmin's more affordable Soft Strap Premium Heart Rate Sensor(Opens in a new window) ($69.99)

As with most high-quality chest straps, the HRM-Run is soft and flexible. The inside front of the strap, the part that touches your skin at the rib cage, has a thin rubber-like plastic; it's the part that reads your heart rate. The rest of the strap is covered by a stretchy nylon fabric.

 Right off the bat. my uh, just for my first set, I've already exceeded the 148 max beats per minute that I got for running with the Just with the Garmin Watch. So right there we can see an improvement. This is definitely more accurate just by doing one set jump into the second set 166 beats per minute

I'm starting to think all this time that I've been running and doing hit workouts with my watch.  But that's data for you. So there you go. Just wrapping things up with the ticker fit. You know, overall, it's a good little unit

 I'm looking at this, I'm going to guess this is a shorter strap. It's a little bit thinner than this one right there by the looks of things. Maybe a little bit tiny and thinner, I think. And probably shorter

 But right here is interesting. This is after I stopped taking the photos and I started riding again, you'll see that initially the ticker just did that same flatline like for 90 beats per minute for no particular reason. And then the heart rate strap was just fine. It showed the rise in heart rate, took another couple minutes

 So that's a bit of a bummer. But then it's really, really smooth here. A single artifact on the heart rate strap randomly up to like almost 200, which is incorrect, of course. Things are good there

Wahoo TICKR FIT Optical HR Sensor Review: Unboxing, Setup, Accuracy Testing!

 For me the the belt on here is just about perfect so I don't really have to do any adjustment on it and I can just slide it up my forearm. Now I tested this both running and also indoor cycling and outdoor cycling and one of the issues I found on outdoor cycling especially if you're mountain biking or if you're road riding and you're on some rough roads or if there's bumps and stuff like that if you don't have the strap secured up here and you're jarring on your bike this happened to me at least once where the strap came down around my wrist and obviously I just didn't have it on tight enough but when you're going 25 miles an hour and all of a sudden it slides down there you don't really have time to slide it back up you have to wait until you're slowing down or get off your bike to sort of position it back in place. Now on the indoor cycling I have a review on the Apple TV and connecting it with Zwift I'll use this this just makes a lot of sense it's really easy I don't have to worry about did I put my heart strap on or not I can just slide this on at any time when I want to go and I can go. For running I feel like it's actually more comfortable than having a chest strap on that's just preference so you know for those that don't like chest straps this would be definitely a good option to check out and again for the Wahoo products the Ticker X and the Ticker Fit they're the same price so you can sort of decide which one you want to go for

 Now with this the way it works is it uses and records based on the electrical pulse that your heart sends out and then records that information onto here and then relays it through either Bluetooth or amp plus but what's neat about the the fit or where I found it pretty useful is if you're riding indoors a lot of times what happens is I'll put on my biking kit and then I'll realize that I haven't had my heart rate monitor on and I want to use it for a ride or something and with the chest straps then you're having to take your shirt off or you're having to sort of finagle your chest straps because I wear bibs so finagle them around the bibs and it's just sort of a pain but with the fit it's really easy you just slide it over your forearm and then you're good to go and the same thing when you want to take it off it's real easy to take off. Now the way it works is you charge it it'll last 25 to 30 hours per charge full charge and you hold the there's a little blue button you hold it down for about four seconds a bunch of green lights start flashing and then once they start flashing and it's on you just put it on your forearm and it'll start reading your heart rate. Now I've seen reviews comparing the different heart rate readings from a strap from a watch that has the the optical sensor and then from the Wahoo Fit and it seems to be they're all sort of close but as far as accuracy the the chest strap definitely seems to be the most accurate as far as reading and then the the fit seems to be the second most and then if you have a watch with a heart rate sensor on it that seems to be the least effective way to monitor your heart rate. They're all pretty good though I mean it's just a few beats plus or minus that they might miss out on

 It's an optical heart rate reader and the way it works is you can just put it on your forearm and when you turn it on these lights glow the little green lights and they'll register your heart rate and then you can send it to whatever device you want to see your heart rate on so in this case I could use my wahoo bolt the element bolt or just the element if I'm on my bike I can use Apple TV if I'm riding in Zwift if I have a watch that's either Bluetooth or amp plus compatible which a lot of watches are today you can relay the heart rate to the watch so it's pretty cool. Now wahoo also makes two chest straps for recording heart rate and so it's the ticker X and the ticker so the ticker X is the wahoo's at least right now top-of-line heart rate monitor and it also does cadence so if you're running this isn't a bad option to go with and it also does cadence if you're riding inside on an indoor bike now the ticker fit does not have that capability so the ticker X is a little bit more advanced as far as what it can do functionally but the ticker fit with the optical reading is a little bit more advanced technology as far as being able to read your heart rate just on your arm. Wahoo Tickr Fit Heart Rate Monitor Review (TICKRfit 2019)

 But it got dinged a little bit on the value, coming in at the same $80 that the Ticker X does, but losing a bunch of the running and metrics that you get with that chest rate, heart rate chest strap. I think rightfully so, that what you give up in those metrics, you get in comfort if you are somebody that prefers to have a heart rate monitor on your forearm as opposed to your chest.  However, that's not really enough to make me want to be confident about swimming with it. Another difference is that the chest strap has a standard coin-sized battery, whereas the Ticker Fit has a rechargeable by a USB 30-hour battery. The heart rate readings on a chest strap are actually reading the electrical impulses that are coming from your body, whereas the Fit, it's using the new optical sensor technology that isn't quite as accurate. In addition to that, you also don't get running analytics like you do on a Ticker X

 If anything, it was off by one beat at most, but it seems like the data collection might be a little bit more averaged out here with the Ticker Fit. Let's go to the run, and we see that same sort of thing that even though I set the smoothing in training peaks here to take the most amount of data possible on both, you can see that the blue line has just smoothed out a fair bit more when it gets uploaded. So is it accurate? Yes. Is it accurate for the scientific testing that my buddy Daryl Hurry might need? Maybe not

 I'd have to temporarily disable BT on my phone, before the strap will connect correctly. Sometimes, other devices, like my kids' iPads, will cause enough BT interference to disrupt the TICKR FIT's ability to connect. I'd have to power cycle the strap multiple times before it'll re-connect.  On the plus side, the strap is accurate and very comfortable to wear

The downfall for this device is the single simultaneous bluetooth connection. Half the time, my phone would grab the connection, blocking my ELEMNT Bolt (if I'm riding outside) or my Apple TV (if I'm riding indoors). I'd have to temporarily disable BT on my phone, before the strap will connect correctly. Sometimes, other devices, like my kids' iPads, will cause enough BT interference to disrupt the TICKR FIT's ability to connect

 I'd have to power cycle the strap multiple times before it'll re-connect.  On the plus side, the strap is accurate and very comfortable to wear. It's convenient being able to slip the strap around my arm instead of having to remember to put it on before my jersey.

 The monitor is lighweight and is splash proof, so its no sweat when it comes to sweat! Any cycling enthusiast will know how snug cycling jerseys are. The monitor stayed in place throughout my ride, provided constant heart rate readings and it was comfortable enough for me not to notice it was there (remember to remove it when undressing!) The strap may be a deal breaker if you have to wear the monitor with the strap on, or if youre a heavy sweater. I think the strap wont last long as it feels flimsy (unlike the Wahoo chest strap which feels durable)  Overall, its a good monitor but I cannot give a 5 star rating to reward bad strap design.

Even the wahoo website has terrible reviews on the replacement straps they sell for 15 Euros!  The heart rate monitor itself is superb. I got around the strap problem by removing it altogether and tucking the monitor under the sleeve of my cycling jersey

Great for cyclists

 What I like about the Bluetooth is it's easy to get on Swift, you know I use an Apple TV or an iPad and I have zero issues with this thing connecting to either of those. It's also ANT compatible which means it can connect to my Garmin 935 but it picks it up anytime I'm ready to go for a run. I will say the one negative thing about it being here brushes around the chest is during the winter time if you're putting on long sleeves if it's up here it may, you know you have a tendency for it to you know slide so you have to just make sure it's just snug, it's not a big deal. Same thing with the chest whereas I've noticed with chest straps, you know like I've been in a race, I did Augusta in 2015 and by the end of the race my chest strap had fallen all the way down to my belly button so I'm not gonna get an accurate, I'm not gonna get a heart rate reading with my chest strap around my belly button

 I've never measured that but I don't charge them very often, maybe once a month or here or there whenever I can remember to charge it so yeah it's better than batteries.
