I like the weight and intent of this laptop, but the compromises are unacceptable, especially for the price. Laptop paint also chipped first day of light use.

1. The battery life is not impressive. I typically get about 5 hrs, so usable, but not impressive.

Ultra light for a 17"

The speaker is terrible at high volumes and sometimes cause the whole machine to vibrate. What I love about this machine is the battery life, it last all day without having to recharge and that I can charge it from a PD power bank, which is another plus. Overall if you are looking for a 17" laptop for travel, this is perfect

Contender for laptop of the decade

They chose an unorthodox but genius resolution of 2560x1600 ( used to be what'd come on those big Dell 30" super expensive monitors which was the highest resolution you could get on a PC monitor for many years ). It's a 16:10 aspect ratio, which you never knew you needed, but once you try it and can see so much more content without scrolling it'll be hard to ever love a 16:9 laptop again. Move your taskbar to the left side of the screen and voila, you have a semi-desktop-like web browsing experience.

That sort of underscores a theme of this review, which is that so much of this laptop’s value hinges on what its promised ecosystem and support network will actually look like. There are a few guides on Framework’s website — for setting up the pre-builts and the DIY kit, replacing the bezels, replacing the keyboard, and replacing the mainboard — but some processes that people will likely want are still missing as of this writing. There’s no guide to replacing the memory, for example (you have to find that in the mainboard replacement guide). Framework says that’s coming soon

4.7 pounds is pretty normal for gaming and workstation laptops at 15 - 17 inches. I think a large M1 laptop at half that weight would be very nice, see the LG Gram 17 for instance.

Framework Laptop Review

The Framework Laptop comes not from a major manufacturer, but Framework Computer, a San Francisco-based company that (if you couldn’t tell from the name) is all about this product in particular. The concept comes along at a time when both the "right to repair" push (the ability for end users to maintain and upgrade their tech purchases rather than dispose of them) and being more environmentally friendly are firmly in the zeitgeist. Indeed, just a few weeks before we wrote this, the Biden administration announced plans for an executive order addressing onerous repair restrictions on certain products, including types of tech.

I wish it was a bit bigger, there was room for this.The other issue is by default the laptop is set to too aggressively throttle in software and requires tweaking.Other than that fantastic all around, 2 nvme slots, 1 upgradable ram slot, lots of IO.
