 but I'm not gonna be playing in Ultra today because this is the American original 60s model and I chose it because it's pretty much the classic setup for what the Jazz Master built its foundation on. You got to jazz master pickups in the center. These are not 2p 90s. They are single coils designed specifically for the Jazz Master just a little bit wider, more mellow pickups

 This tone and this volume and this toggle switch I have nothing to do with it. So you're working specifically with this neck pickup. but I think you'll hear it's a it's a much more rhythm based, kind of dark in tone and these two rollers right here become your volume and your tone control respectively. So for this, you can do a lot of very pretty balanced cord stuff, or you can kind of mess with that tone and get some funkier tone rolled off leads going

 One of my favorite players of all time. Nels Cline In Wilco plays this guitar all over. He uses it very famously on the solo for Impossible' Germany which just has one of the coolest stones I've ever heard in my life. but you know you can hear those kind of rounded, warm mellow tones that you might associate with a jazz player

Beautiful guitar, don’t get me wrong, however, I’m giving this 3 stars for the horrendous set up it came with. Intonation was wack, truss rod was wack, saddles were wack, a string actually unwound from the bridge when I used the whammy bar. The fret ends were also very sharp. My verdict is that if you’re a little hands on and know how to fix these minor issues it’s a good buy, but for beginners or ones that are scared to work on a guitar you’ll have to pay for a professional setup which can range from 50-100$ so you make the call if you wanna spend the money

Great guitar, terrible setup

I thought it was a bit overpriced with a £1000 starting bid considering everything, and I wasn't in a position to go and collect it, and it was relisted a number of times and never sold so I thought I would wait until the seller reduced the price a bit, and didn't buy it. Then the listing ended and it never went back up again. I still slightly regret not buying it, because those old sixties Fender offsets and student guitars are just *so* cool, but they're pretty uncommon on this side of the Atlantic.

Looking for a little inspiration, classing myself as a new player, returning after a 15 year hiatus since I last put any real effort into learning and seem to be in the right place mentally where I'm back into it, and loving it.

Problem is I want all the gear, but have no idea. I'd love to hear what people aspire to own, any style/genre, any price, it just needs to be something special, extra points for why...

 But it was my review yesterday of the Parallel Universe Jazz Tele that really inspired me to go for this one today. It also kind of gave me a slight frame of reference to know what to expect and made me realize just how high-tech this thing really is. So first off, unlike all the other Ultra series guitars, the Jazz Master body shape is actually brand new to the high-end lineup offender. It had no Elite counterpart to replace because it just didn't exist in that lineup

ADDICTED TO GEAR

 They are unneeded for The tension of the strings that are shipped with it. It's shipped with nines. Which is a fairly common That's probably the most popular nines or tens is probably the most popular gauge So you know especially for a guitar that's supposed to be sort of a shred guitar. I mean nines is sort of it But they think this the springs in the back are just really Really way too much force so the easiest way to remedy that is take the back plate off and You'll see three springs in the back of the the guitar Take the middle spring out The middle spring your guitar should be fully tuned up and whatever that you know where you want it to be for tuning Take that middle spring out you could use like a little pair a needle nose or something and pull it out at the at the side that goes into the bridge and take that spring off and Just put it aside and Then do not put the back plate back on yet Turn the guitar over and look at the bridge and see if the bridge is tilted up The bridge might be tilted up off the face a little bit now if you want a floating bridge you know you could start to try and tune it up from there and In you know and then you could sort of work that out as to what you want for tension I think the easier way if you just want it to work You don't want to have to turn it off

 You want to turn it off the easier way if you just want it to work, and you don't want to have to think about a floating bridge is to flip the guitar on the backside again, so that you can see the the tremolo Springs and Tighten the claw down Until it gets to the point where on the front of the guitar You know take a like a half turn and a half turn and look on the front is it still floating okay? Another half turn and another half turn per screw turn it around us. It's still floating You know and just keep going until it's no longer floating and once it's to the face of the guitar You should be fine, and I got mine to get to the face of the guitar long before it got to the body So you should have plenty of room with the tension of the two remaining Springs again. Take the center spring out Should have plenty of tension left with that remaining spring the Two Springs that are in there to Back it all the way back down and have it sort of decked, but a lot easier Okay So Once you have it so that it's decked okay before you call it like the end of it what I would do What I did with mine Is I flipped it back over and I bent a string give it a good bend like the G string And I looked at the bridge, and I said is the bridge really pulling up You know bend another string and when I look down here is the bridge really pulling up while I do that and At first it kind of was I gave it like another quarter turn for each one, and then that solved that And then then the additional tension at that point of Of of bending the string wasn't enough to pull the bridge forward and That's kind of the sweet spot That's where you want to be you want to have it decked and just enough extra tension so that it doesn't pull forward when you bend the string and You're you'll notice that you you That the bridge is a lot easier To work now than it was when it had the three springs in there No matter how much you adjusted the claw this the springs just had too much Tension coiled up in them there was too much opposing force, and you had to really work it You're going to bend the bar You could even break it off inside there pull that center spring out. It doesn't it doesn't sound good number one and number two You're like over driving the preamp for a split second, and then you're under driving it The better way to do it is I back the pickup off so that the front of the pickup is just about the same height as the pickup ring and Because it's had a little bit of a slant the back is a little bit higher But I did a little bit of a back off on this until I felt like when I looked at it on my meter And it's a hard thing

 It's when you really dig in almost like an unwanted spike at the very beginning and And and they just back that pick up off just a hair The one last thing I can tell you that I did to this And this is at your own risk. It's up to you, but I have a very small wrench that fits perfectly on these little the little nuts that hold the Let me get to this little camera here right right down here that hold these uh pegs in right and I Find that sometimes if these feel like a little loose Maybe two out of six It's just a tiny bit loose, and I have a small wrench And I just very carefully say is this snug and I don't mean tight I mean just snug and if it's a little loose at all and it moves a little bit I just move it until it's snug, and I just make sure that these are snug and down I cannot tell you how much of a difference that will make because when they put these in they don't want to tighten them down And break anything so they don't really a lot of times these can get a little bit loose especially if you're you know Whining a lot for whatever reason the nuts on the top here get a little loose What you don't want to do is over tighten them We don't want to do is crank those down, but if there's any little bit of play in there I Think two of the six had a tiny everything went up snug snug up a little bit of play Snug snug up a little bit of play And boom you know and I mean like a tenth of a turn right But just that last little mile to get it tight, and I'm telling you the stability Is like through the roof all right? Hey, just one more thing before we wrap this video up You should remove the resistor on the volume knob in this guitar I want to thank wicked fester, which I'm assuming is a play on wicked Lester For pointing that out the resistor that they use on the volume pot does more harm than good It's supposed to be their version of like the treble bleed But it really made the the guitar sound kind of boxy when you rolled the volume off now When I roll the volume off It's got wonderful bass and a Noticeable tone improvement, so I just grabbed a little set of snips and Just snipped it out. It doesn't matter if you leave the tang on it You don't have to get a soldering iron out or anything just get a little set of snips and go in there just snip off one leg and then snip off the other leg and Use a pair of tweezers and take out the resistor and throw it in the trash because I think it sounds better with it out All right all right there you go Again, that's only for the for this guitar. That's not if you have another brand I can't I'd have to check it out, but if you have one of these if you have a Kramer a Kramer Beretta if you have a Kramer Beretta Special Pull that resistor off the volume knob it really does it makes it It totally makes it sound better, and there you go all right dudes as always Thanks much for hanging out rock on

Setting Up Your Kramer Baretta Special for BEST PERFORMANCE!

 I'm gonna be able to tell more over time, but as of right now it actually works pretty well. [Music] [Music] So I am starting off playing in a classic guitar amp with a compressor on so this is no pretty much no gain really. [Music] So [Music] So so yeah, that's the clean tone. I mean in another demonstration here as you can see [Music] same same off

 So let's switch up the amps here. Let's go 6505 In the memory of Ebh himself. recipes Addy [Music] So [Music] See, and that's what makes this guitar so great is that it sounds great. With the stock pickup and everything it seems to be staying in tune

 One thing off the bat I will say is the volume pot. I've seen this on a lot of them. This it's not good. but to be honest with this guitar, it's max or nothing for me because this is just a shred guitar

 The front job of this thing is actually amazing. That's another thing too is like I have this on zero you still here? [Music] I mean it doesn't say zero, it only says one. so technically maybe it is on this one. All right

THE GREATEST CHEAP GUITAR OF ALL TIME!! (Kramer Baretta Special)

   The pickup is surprisingly good and puts out a nice amount of crunch.  Perfect for 80's metal.  I may eventually swap it out down the road for a Seymour Duncan JB, but it definitely holds it's own.  I wasn't expecting much from this inexpensive trem and I'm not a big whammy user, so I decked the trem and tuning stability has been very good

Bottom line for the price, these guitars are a steal if you can put in some basic setup work.  Honestly if you are not a Floyd user, spend a quarter of the price of the Baretta Vintage and grab this guitar.

 So I'm a big fan of Eddie Van Halen I always was I Was back in high school when they hit the scene and he blew my mind and I couldn't help but become a van Halen fan because he was just so great on guitar and ever since then I've always wanted to have a guitar like his. Now the trouble is they did come out with guitars that looked like his guitar now. Charvel came out with a series of striped guitars like the ones that he was using so we had the one that was red, black and white. He also Came with the other one that was black and yellow and I didn't want to buy those guitars because I didn't want it to be striped I liked Eddie Van Halen and I liked this guitar and I didn't want to have the stripes because there's a lot of weight behind those stripes

 He was using the Kramer Beretta that wasn't the special and had the Floyd Rose made in the USA. But this guitar is very similar with a couple of big differences. a it won't cost you an arm and a leg B It doesn't have a Floyd, but see it also has all of the other main features that the original had. without the heavy price point and it still sounds great

 Charvel came out with a series of striped guitars like the ones that he was using so we had the one that was red, black and white. He also Came with the other one that was black and yellow and I didn't want to buy those guitars because I didn't want it to be striped I liked Eddie Van Halen and I liked this guitar and I didn't want to have the stripes because there's a lot of weight behind those stripes. And if you show up at a gig with a guitar that stripe and it looks like Eddie Van Halen's guitar, you better darn well have Eddie's chops down to a tee because otherwise they're gonna laugh you right out of that rehearsal studio if you can't play those chops now. This guitar is black and very subdued and although it is the same model, it doesn't say or scream Eddie Van Halen as much as the Charr Bells did

 But overall, I've been playing this guitar now for a couple of days and it sustains wonderfully and it really plays really nicely. I Find myself putting a lot of like chunky rhythms. Of course you know some Van Halen tunes and whatnot just because it sounds really good. So you're playing you know, Honeymoon Suite van Halen maybe Whitesnake and some other you know eighties music, some riffs from, you know Motley Crue or something like that
