My head is saying get the Stingray because I already own a jazz bass, but my heart says get the Fender because I’ve wanted one since I started playing.  Yeah you could spend another what five or six hundred and get the American Standard Fender Jazz Bass, I really honestly don't know whether it's, I don't think it's worth the extra twice as much money, if you play both and you hear both it's like, I mean it could be just a subtle thing or just knowing the fact that it's you know, maybe it has nicer woods or higher quality components. But when it gets right down to playing it and listening to it, I don't know, it's not worth it to me, maybe it is to you. Anyway, thanks for watching.

 I mean between a tone all the way off and on it's not a huge difference, you probably wouldn't get to hear it over YouTube or I might be able to hear it here but not over YouTube. So now we're going to put the neck off, bridge all the way up and the tone still all the way up and again. And in fairness, honesty and fairness, I have the bass on the amp up to four and the treble up to two, mid-range is all the way off, that's how I keep it pretty much all the time. So now we'll just go to everything full on and do the same thing

 This is called the Player Series now, made in Mexico. You see them in the stores for between $600 and $700 typically. You have fine control for the bridge pickup, fine control for the neck pickup, and actually the neck would probably be on top. And then the bottom, smaller control, is overall tone

However, I’ve been saving up some money and decided it’s finally time to buy a nice looking/sounding Fender Jazz Bass, as I’ve always been partial to J Basses. Like I said I’ve been saving up so I’m willing to shell out a good bit for this, but I’m not trying to buy John Entwistle’s bass straight from his estate or anything.

 So let's take a listen to this 1968 Fender Jazz with both pickups on maximum. Next, let's try soloing the pickups. So here's the neck pickup, which gives us more of that Precision vibe. Next, if we solo the bridge pickup, we get that stereotypical honking Jaco Pastorius kind of vibe that's very much a Fender Jazz speciality

 It's obvious to see here that it has a very generic shape and overall vibe that some players would consider boring. It's the kind of thing that, you know, I thought as a teenager, I always wanted something that looked like it was sent from the future. So if you have that outlook and you want something that stands out from the crowd, you're better looking elsewhere. Lastly, for con number four, we've got something that applies equally to the Fender Precision, inconsistency

 For pro number two, we have the slim Fender Jazz neck. One of the cons that I listed for the Precision was the neck width. Some players dislike the wide neck of the P bass. The Jazz has a much thinner neck at the nut, so it's much better for players with small hands or those of you that like to move fluidly across strings at speed

 Now, it's worth bearing in mind that because we have individual control of both pickup volumes, we can blend both pickups in any way that we like, which gives a whole spectrum of different tones that we can play with. For this reason, the Fender Jazz is a really versatile bass when compared with the Fender Precision. For pro number two, we have the slim Fender Jazz neck. One of the cons that I listed for the Precision was the neck width

 Here we have the quick access truss rod cover and the Just-a-Nut 3 fully adjustable solid brass nut system. I think I seem to be a feature with Warwick basses, is that they're very clean. And if that's the sort of thing you're into, that kind of very clean, almost like American session musician tone, whereas I think the passive gives you a bit more of a growl, which is really nice

 I think I seem to be a feature with Warwick basses, is that they're very clean. I just got a warwick thumb, my 3rd warwick and i gotta say out of the 20+ basses i own this has to be my favorite, and i own everything from a squire j bass, to a fender american ultra p bass, and a couple of rickenbackers. Absolutely adore the thumb, the tones are incredible and the neck is super comfortable, only con i can think of, is MAN this thing is heavy.

Why is the Warwick Thumb worth so much? Even on the used market they are very expensive . I'm in the market for a 5 string daily driver. I currently use a pbass but only really practice and play through DI into my computer so no band stuff.. are these basses worth what they go for?

98 German Warwick Thumb BO. The playability of that bass (while sitting down - what an atrocious neck dive while on a strap) was out of this world. Finger, tap, slap, every sound just wanted to jump off the bass.

Obviously subjective discussion starter here - but to you, what was the best bass you’ve ever played? Mine was and still is a Gibson non reverse Thunderbird with flat wounds, a Hipshot bridge and heavenly low action.

What is the best playing bass you have ever laid your hands on?

 It's really well balanced, it's not going to slide off your leg like some other basses do. And it's not incredibly heavy, so playing long gigs with this bass is going to work out well. What I'm playing through, it's an Eden 2x8, it's 180 watts. The reason why I wanted to pick this one to play with the Warwick is it's really crisp, really clean, so it's going to complement each other quite well
