CR’s take: The Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge isn’t great on carpet, but it boasts top marks for cleaning bare floors. This model is top-notch at navigation—not all robotics are—earning an Excellent rating. It’s also great at cleaning along the edges of walls and corners, and runs rather quietly compared with competing bots. Unlike the other Eufy models on this list, the G30 Edge is WiFi enabled, meaning you can control it from your smartphone. It offers decent data security in our tests, but its data privacy could be better (though it’s not any worse than many competitors).

  The roller brush will get tangled with hair and will require cleaning. This is to be expected but on one occasion, after cleaning the brush and reinstalling it, the vac made a clicking / grinding noise while running. I had to take the brush out again and after reinstalling it, the noise didn't come back. This seems odd, considering the brush was cleaned and not tangled

 It can see walls and will slow down and gently tap the wall before switching directions.  The vac navigates its way through and around table and chair legs, shoes, and other obstacles, remembering where it has already been (presumably by using the mapping feature). It seems to only need a few inches of space between objects (like chair legs) to be able to get in there and clean and rarely gets stuck in those areas.  It also is able to work around some spots that are troublesome in one direction, but ok in other directions

  The runtime appears to be as advertised, which is around 60 minutes on BoostIQ mode (variable suction power). Also, the BoostIQ mode seems to work as it should, increasing suction on carpet and decreasing it on bare floors.  This device is easily added to Google Home by linking the eufy account to Google. Then you can add the device to the home and simply tell google to have robovac (or whatever you name it) start cleaning and/or go home

 This is much better than other models that randomly run around the house with the goal of eventually getting everything clean.  It does not bump into walls full force. It can see walls and will slow down and gently tap the wall before switching directions. An OK budget vacuum option (short test, in-depth results)

 It loses the little rotating brush on the front occasionally when encountering our thin throw rugs. It does not have enough suction to deep clean carpet well. Our house is about 1600 sq ft on the main floor and the battery usually does not last long enough to do the whole thing. And due to the design it does not clean within 4 inches of walls or other objects where the rotating brush does not reach

 It has to back up and turn around so often, it runs the battery down prematurely. You have to pick up any shaggy throw rugs and move any electrical cords on the floor. It loses the little rotating brush on the front occasionally when encountering our thin throw rugs. It does not have enough suction to deep clean carpet well

Works well on hard floors

 I managed to narrow the noise culprit to the rolling brush, but even after removing the brush and guard, there was still additional noise. A few quick emails to Eufy support with videos of the vacuum and noise resulted in a brand new unit being delivered. 5 stars for customer service and support!  With a new unit in hand, I decided to try and repair the original unit. After disassembling the unit, I found the bearing used to drive the rolling brush fill to the brim with dirt, causing the bearing to stick

Great vacuum with flawed, but fixable design issue

 I thought for sure the vacuum wouldn't navigate between kitchen chairs and under the very tight spaces of our couches and ottoman, but it handled it with ease. When the vacuum did get pinched, it found its way out and I didn't have to intervene. I am very impressed how far these have come since the first days of the iRobot models.  The vacuum sneaks into areas and grabs dust bunnies, hair and particles that your average upright vacuum will miss

First the pros: We have roughly 1600sq ft downstairs of which this vacuum was able to identify 1200sq ft and clean it accurately before the battery ran out. The mapping feature is GREAT and I was very impressed with how well the G30 navigated all of our furniture and what I thought were impassible spaces. I thought for sure the vacuum wouldn't navigate between kitchen chairs and under the very tight spaces of our couches and ottoman, but it handled it with ease. When the vacuum did get pinched, it found its way out and I didn't have to intervene

 This was our main motivation for getting a robovac. Before the first run through our house, we did a cursory sweep of the big areas of our house. Even with the larger dust bin, I had to empty the container after ~600sq ft and it was full. I wish this model would notify you when the bin was full via an optical sensor or something

5 hours before the battery ran out and it still had a couple of areas left to complete, so prepare accordingly. After the battery recharges, (roughly 3.5 hours later) it resumes where it left on the original map to complete the house. The vacuum is VERY thorough, but this takes time to complete

Great little vacuum but it's not God's Chariot

 I then turned to the Eufy vaccuums after by-passing them because I didn't thick it would work on our thick pile carpets. I purchased this one based on the then available Amazon price of $249 and $34 for a 3-year protection plan. I never buy those plans but after my prior Neato vaccuum stopped working after a couple of years I decided it was worth getting that protection for these generally unreliable machines. So, after reading reviews over and over again I opted for this Eufy G30 Edge as it was the only reasonably priced one that Consumer Reports said had no observed flaws

I recently purchase the Eufy G30 Edge, after reading various reviews at length including research from Amazon buyers and Consumer Reports, as well as after trying a Samsung R7040. The Samsung drove me crazy with its random, almost psychotic repetitive movements, poor battery life and need to recharge several times to complete just a couple of small areas--it got returned. I then turned to the Eufy vaccuums after by-passing them because I didn't thick it would work on our thick pile carpets. I purchased this one based on the then available Amazon price of $249 and $34 for a 3-year protection plan

 I've only run it twice, but it worked on my carpet acceptably if not admirably; it runs for 60 minutes on my carpet--longer on a floor; basically works on a fairly logical grid rather than psychotic random walk through space; finds its way home to recharge; and gets my upstairs done in a few hours. The Samsung never got anything completed. This Eufy does a decent job given the inherent limitations of these robots. I haven't had to rescue it either

Overall decent performance relative to the cost

 I was wrong. It is amazing just how much dirt is collected each cleaning cycle; we have three small dogs. As a former mentor for my grandson's high school robotics team, I was intrigued at the ability to navigate and map the available cleaning area while also navigating around typical household obstacles, such as furniture legs. The cleaning area is large enough that the G30 Edge needs to recharge, then resume cleaning

 I don't use Alexa or Google assistant. I also don't use the schedule feature, preferring to start the cleaning cycle at my discretion. My primary use of the wifi is to use some of the features only available on the Eufy app - most important to me was to turn ON the Auto-return feature. The Map feature and Cleaning History are also informative

However, it does have a dedicated ultrasonic mopping capability that results in impressive stain-cleaning performance. Its surface detection system also enables it to raise its mopping pad if it's on carpet. It also features a LIDAR mapping system as opposed to the iRobot's optical sensor, allowing it to navigate in complete darkness. You can also use its companion app to direct it to clean a specific area or room, schedule cleaning sessions in advance, or set up no-go zones the vacuum won't enter. Performance on bare floors is superb, and the vacuum does a decent job of clearing away solid debris on carpets. Unfortunately, while it does have a HEPA filter, some fine particles can still escape from its exhaust.

Get the iRobot if you want a vacuum that does a better job of collecting pet hair and has superior air filtration performance, but consider the Roborock if a built-in mopping feature and more advanced mapping system are bigger draws for you.

Its headlining feature is its ultrasonic mopping capability, which uses a vibrating mopping pad to scrub away worked-in dirt and debris, resulting in impressive stain-clearing performance on hard surfaces.

This vacuum has a wide range of other automation capabilities. Its surface detection system allows it to automatically lift its mopping pad when it detects that it's on carpet or adjust its suction power to suit different floor types. Its LIDAR mapping system allows it to precisely map out the location of various obstacles in a room or maneuver in dark areas. You can use its companion app to pinpoint specific areas you want the vacuum to clean, set up 'no-go' zones the vacuum won't enter, or even remote control it if it gets stuck.

Unfortunately, it's worth noting that this vacuum has a hard time dealing with pet hair on carpets, but thankfully it clears most of it on bare floors. They also tend to be very well-built and have great maneuverability to clean under tables and chairs. Unfortunately, like many other robot vacuum brands, their products have demanding maintenance needs, and many parts need replacing over time.

The best Roborock vacuum we've tested is the Roborock S7. This high-end robot vacuum delivers fantastic performance on flat, even surfaces like hardwood or linoleum. Its headlining feature is its ultrasonic mopping capability, which uses vibrating mop pads to scrub away any dried-on dirt or debris. Its surface detection system also lets it lift these mopping pads when it maneuvers onto carpeted floors. Its LIDAR sensor array generates a clear map of its coverage area, letting you set up virtual boundary lines or schedule cleaning sessions for individual rooms within your home.  Roborock recommends cleaning this every two weeks, so that's something I'll look to do more often. The sensors need to be wiped clean after approximately 30 hours use or monthly, and the app will prompt you to do that. So far, I've had to do that twice. The dustbin filter needs to be cleaned every two weeks as well

 The mopping function is pretty good for what it does. It'll take away fresh stains off my tiles and even some dried on stains. It doesn't replace a traditional manual mop, but I don't think it's designed to do so either. The app is really intuitive to use and has plenty of functionality for power users, and the robot itself has been very low maintenance for me

 So with all that said, what do I think about the Robo Rock S7? Well, it's fantastic As an everyday vacuum, the ability to set a schedule and have the robot automatically clean your floors is incredible. Our floors here have never looked so consistently clean. It won't completely replace a conventional vacuum as it can't get to tight areas of your home and it can't get over higher bumps. but I think those downsides are inherent to any robot vacuum you might use

We’ve had the Roborock S7 for 7 weeks on our main floor which is all hardwood and a few area rugs. I’m currently trial running several auto-empty vacs for our upstairs which has our 4 bedrooms and all carpet. Currently a few weeks into the Roomba S9+ with empty bin and let me just say… while it does a good job picking up on our low rise carpet, the app and technology feels about 5 years behind the Roborock tech and app. If anyone cares about specifics feel free to ask but I’m constantly surprised how poor the app and tech work

 But no, it did get some hair clogged when I tried to empty it in that test, but it did just fine after that big test and was able to consistently clean normal amounts of hair. Basically, if you have pets that shed, you will probably need to run it at least once or twice a week in order to make sure it empties the bin without clogs. maybe even more if you have a lot of big pets. But as I said, I've yet to find an auto empty robot vacuum that doesn't have this specific limitation

 and because I have two cats, a lot of cat hair can build up in two weeks. I was hoping that the S7 could auto empty even that much hair after that much time. But no, it did get some hair clogged when I tried to empty it in that test, but it did just fine after that big test and was able to consistently clean normal amounts of hair. I have had several Roomba vacuums. Most recently the i7, which worked well for a long time, then lost its mind. I have tried everything. iRobot customer service is a joke. 

So I finally give up and am going to try another robotic vacuum.  Peace out, iRobot; I will never buy another one of your products.

I tried the roborock s7 and between it not being able to back of its own dock, being obsessed with ramming into its own dock, getting stuck anytime it hit anything, not picking my anything off the carpet, it had air vents on the side (which I wasn’t used to coming from roomba) that sounds like a jet engine no matter what the speed setting was. I was already annoyed and the sound of a mini jet engine going through the house sent me over the edge in frustration! Am I to expect the same thing from the Deebot t8?

 Waiting for this thing to break down which probably won’t be a long time from now so I can purchase a upgraded eufy. Roborock suction isint that great either. I recently ordered a replacement battery for my eufy because the Roborock wasn’t doing a good job and put them to work at the same time for the same amount of time and looked at which one collected more dirt and take a wild guess which one did it better. Yep the less then $200 4 year old eufy

 I purchased the Roborock after my eufy battery started acting up but it’s been 4 years so I get it. Purchased the Roborock because I thought it would be better plus the extra features like mopping and mapping things on the app but I regret my decision.
