Overall I ran my fingers along the side of the fretboard and nothing felt too sharp or anything, and each note rings out pretty cleanly without any real buzz (unless it's on me fretting a chord that I'm not yet comfortable with). Overall finger placement has been pretty forgiving.

The emg pick ups are great for long sustains, punchy palm muting, and shrieking pinch harmonics. I don't know why people complain you can only play metal with these pick-ups though. Sure, they're really good for that, but they also have beautiful clean tones and even manage some decent classic rock or bluesy tones as well. If I really want to be a stiffler about my more vintage tones then I will use my strat, but this guitar usually sounds fine for those as well it's just not a blues machine or anything

From what you've said the player series is a solid choice, and will last you a long, long time. The difference between them and the American performer or professional is fairly minimal, especially to the average person listening to you.

That doesn't necessarily mean its an inferior instrument. I like that there is no longer that ugly writing at the 12th fret. Pros: Overall, solid construction. The guitar feels very solid and has a good bit of weight to it, which is what i want from a single cut guitar like this

In contrast to the recommendations above, I would not recommend a Les Paul for a beginner, and this is coming from someone with a Gibson Les Paul. They're blocky, heavy and with a really thick neck, plus they gave a shorter scale length and 22 frets, with the highest notes being extremely hard to access. They're not the most playable guitar and that can be a real barrier for a beginner with things like Barre chords.

Note to self, always buy instruments from music stores. Otherwise, the guitar is beautiful, not a ding or chip anywhere. I got the black with gold hardware, the feel/action is awesome, but that might be Guitar Center's intervention, the guitar, though, is very pleasing to the eye!

The 50s version gets the Amberd styled ones. Personally, I prefer the other ones, but there's something about these reflectors that I think looks good...

I have had the version with Duncan JB/59 combo for a couple of years. I am a Fender guy, always have been. I never liked the necks on Les Pauls, they just never felt comfortable. When I played one of these it was like a breath of fresh air

Most of the time you will get what you pay for, in regards to anything. But as has already been stated, if you play it and you like the way it feels that’s more important than anything.
