Ernie ball music man stingray HH. I have a 2006 and had it since 2008. It’s active and the best bass I’ve ever owned in terms of playability and versatility. Can’t recommend it enough

I'm building my home studio and I'm looking for a 2nd bass that would be active and very versatile. I also prefer classic body shapes. My budget would be about 1600$ usd or less if possible.

 Today on Reverse Spirits and Gear, we check out the brand new 2018 Stingray Special from Ernie Ball Music Man.

 Recently I did an unboxing because I was super excited about my 2018

 Stingray Special from Ernie Ball Music Man. Now the purposes of this video is to kind of

 give you a little sound sample as well as talk about

 some of the features a little bit more in depth. Now the classic Stingray is not going away, that still exists, but

 Ernie Ball Music Man wanted to kind of come out with a maybe more updated, more modern

 Stingray. It's a little bit more, it's more of the...

 Several of the new features include a new arm contour on the body, a five bolt neck, and

 Ernie Ball Music Man tuners, which I actually really really like. They're nice and smooth, they're lightweight,

 but they have a little bit of thickness on them, so they're easier to grip and they just feel really good in the hand.

 Also the maple necks on all of the Stingray Specials are now roasted, and you guys know how I feel about roasted maple. It's...

The special has such an amazing mid range that means it will fit in the mix much better and has a more vintage tone. I absolutely adore it but I can't afford it yet so instead I'm using a Sterling with the treble cut and pressure wound strings to emulate it. Imo though the stingray special can do the classic stingray sound easily plus more sounds in a way other models can't do as well.

The model that I've got in for review is a white dual humbucker model with an off-white pickguard and a rosewood fretboard.  You can access the myriad of tonal expression via the combination of a three-band EQ and a guitar style five-way pickup selector switch, and the flexibility is really kind of absurd. Now I'm going to take you through the plethora of tonal options on the bass controls so that you can hear some of the different sounds that you can get out of the bass, and then I'll talk about it a little bit.  The new 18-volt preamp allows a cleaner and more dynamic expression with the increased headroom. A small but really nice improvement is the tuner buttons. I had a Stingray many years ago with the old-style tuners that were just flat, and they were not very friendly on the fingers, but these are nicely tapered, rounded, and slightly thicker in the middle, and are very comfortable to use. Like many of the changes made to this new model, it's kind of a quality of life upgrade, because like I said before, the Stingray was already great
