 #6 - The R1850DB pair are pretty good as TV speakers to our Sony Bravia. Better than the cheap soundbar we bought 5 years ago and rarely use. But worth $199? I don't think so. Maybe it's my age

Not what I expected - Not as decribed - Ok for gamers - Alexa studio is far better sound

The best powered speakers under $200 are the Neumi BS5P. (They are better than the R1700BT someone else mentioned.)

If you need a subwoofer output for the option of adding a sub later, then look at the Edifier R1850DB.

I finally got an air conditioner installed, but its noise drowns out both sets of my computer speakers (which were fairly quiet to begin with). Would anyone have any suggestions for speakers for under $200 that would be up to par and loud enough that I could hear over a roaring AC unit lol? I haven't went speaker shopping in years so I have no idea what to look for or brands or anything.

  This are very smooth sounding speakers - they will never sound shrill or fatiguing. The flip side of this is the treble is not as detailed and exciting as other speakers. I own the Klipsch RP-500M and I prefer those speakers overall, and I think a lot of people would. If you can find the Klipsch for a similar price, they sound more clear, exciting, and dynamic

Bought these and the Elac Uni-Fi UB5 to compare them. Bought them both at discounts. Paid $300 during a sale for these. I think the overall the Elac sounds better but these aren't bad

 I was happy to play them loud because they sounded great loud. They really rewarded me the more. I turned up that volume knob. Additionally, i will say: um there's going to be two scenarios where people are going to use these right in a listening room like i did a smaller listing room, i would recommend, because these are small if you've got a bigger listening room, they have the 350 as Well as the floor standards, you may want to consider those instead, but in a small listening room more than four feet away, as you would normally be

 The grills are sold separately, which i did think was a little bit weird for the 600 price tag. But again this is where it gets weird, because at 300 bucks the grill is being sold separately. I'D be like, ah, whatever no big deal, but anyhow, let's get into the sound okay, so the top and the treble it's not going to have a sharp attack. Nor will it have a smooth attack

 One other thing to note: i guess uh, it's love or hate. Is the logo is gon na be kind of just like tacked on the top. I think it looks great other people, i've seen say they think it's like a cheap look. I actually like it and i say hats off to kef for trying something different with the logo

 It does seem to look a little bit like a five year old took a paintbrush to it when you get up close - and i wouldn't be the first person to say that the kef q line overall fit and finish is a little on the cheap side. Looking when you get close to it, but from a few feet away, it does look fantastic anyhow, so the speaker is 600 bucks and it does go on sale a few times a year for as little as 300, which was kind of strange during my evaluation period. I kept asking myself: is it a 300 speaker? Is it a 600 speaker? I decided to kind of just right in the middle call it a 450 speaker - and i do i do wish, instead of giving it such a deep discount, kef just sold it year round for a little bit of a lower price. I think that would avoid a lot of hurt feelings because i got to say if i bought these for 600 bucks, i would be pissed off if just a few months later, i saw them on sale for 300

KEF Q-150 Bookshelf Speaker Review. Best for lovers of wide imaging.

 I like fake wood, it's nice, it's got some grain in it. It'S well appointed. I like the little kef badging. It looks good uh anyway, uh five and a quarter inch aluminum, woofer yep and a one inch aluminum vented tweeter, that's concentrically mounted, which means it's in the middle and then it uses uh the woofer as a waveguide shoots sound all over crazy places

 They they seem bigger than they are and they sound they sound bigger. They sound like a 300 speaker, though they sound like a good 300 speaker um. To me this sounds better than the kef ls50. That might be just crazy talk

 If you tweak it, you can get. You can get this thing just to the next level uh. If you listen below 75 db, you're, fine, you don't even need a subwoofer nope. You don't they're that good with the bass

KEF Q150 Bookshelf Speakers - Hands On Review

 Unboxing showed everything was there and the speakers were definitely new, wrapped in their protective plastic sleeves The box had been damaged - ripped, hence the patch panels, but the foam surrounds had protected the speaker. The deal was 'Brand New' effectively with a substantial discount.  I purchased the speakers to replace decades old large bookshelf speakers. The reason I decided on the KEF is the Uni-Q driver that provides a better soundstage and stable imaging

  Would I recommend them? Yes, BUT - small room and with something to cover the bottom two octaves (subwoofer). My priorities for good sound, a decent soundstage, stable imaging, dynamic range, and lack of coloration were satisfied. And I would buy them again, or possibly - if She Who Must Be Obeyed (aka "the Finance Committee") was willing - the KEF LS50s.

  I purchased the speakers to replace decades old large bookshelf speakers. The reason I decided on the KEF is the Uni-Q driver that provides a better soundstage and stable imaging. The old speakers had what I call, "wandering violin syndrome", where the apparent source of sound moves around. The room the Q150s are in is 8' x 11

  Once dialed in, and the sub setup and synchronized as best as possible, the Q150s are a revelation. I have heard things in recordings that I hadn't before; imaging is rock stable - one of the issues I had with the old speakers. Dynamic range is excellent - the BR recording of Berlioz's, Symphonie Fantastique, final movement - is a real treat. Coloration is minimal - what was recorded is what you get, and subsequently bad recordings stand out like sore thumbs - there is no coloration to mask issues with the recording quality

I really didn't want to send them back because they were really good but in my current plan I wanted some temporary speakers to fill a year without spending too much as I intend to go for floor fronts and surrounds pretty soon

 I love the way the tweeter's wave guide lines up perfectly with the driver's protrusion lines. It basically projects sound outward in 9 segments (look at the product pic closely to see what I mean). The cabinet is fascinating to look at and feel. It reminds me of 3d printer plastic as it's got a wound thread look

  I'm running these off an smsl ao200 amp via a Schitt Modi 3+ dac and an ifi zen blue bluetooth receiver. I am pleased as can be. Some have said these start to chuff at high volume but I've taken them to the height of comfortable listening levels where I can clearly see the woofers moving and all I can hear is clean and clear music full of clarity, power and refinement. They'd pair best with a revealing amp for sure

Rich sounding loudspeakers that can really slap

 I have a small living room, it's about 20 L x 13 ft W and these fill the entire area plus the kitchen with amazing sound at normal listening levels. You really have to run these about 50 hours or more to open them up and give some space from the wall as advised by Kef. I won't mention brands but I did return two sets of speakers before deciding to keep these, the uni-q driver works it's special magic to broaden the soundstage and imaging. With the Powernode the mids are so clear and the highs are smooth never shrill or annoying

 Initially I had them hooked up to my Yamaha RX-V4A AVR but it just couldn't do them justice. I was considering upgrading to the Kef LS50 Metas but these sound so sweet hooked up to the Powernode that I think I'll save myself $1, 600 for the time being. I'm also using a sub with them but they really don't need one. It's a matter of preference
