 My acid test for it was if I could just tell my smart speaker “Start vacuum”, and come back and find a clean without me babysitting it and it delivers there. You have to setup avoid zones if you have wire heavy areas though once it’s setup it works. Thank you to other people on this subreddit for helping me and also to Vaccum Wars.

**Roomba S9+:** More powerful but didn’t feel worth it for the price. Didn’t have a lidar. 1099$.

 Some parts could be more intuitive, and I would like more than 2 floor maps - though these are nice to haves. All in all the app is well done and polished. Tells you when you need to take a specific action like clean the filter.

I need a vacuum I can "Set and forget", that won't yell at me that it's stuck every single time I have it try to clean while I'm out of the house.  I don't care about the cost, I'll spend 10 grand on one of these fuckers if it can actually friggin' work without needing to be babysat.  Any recommendations?

I can't seem to find one that checks my boxes.  The one I see recommended the most on here is the Ecovacs deebot, but I tried that and it sucked.

The Roomba s9+ appears to be the best cleaning robot, but it's 3+ years old now, and also is missing obstacle avoidance, which even budget-priced vacuums have today.

First, the robovac works well - it mapped our house, created zones, navigates well, etc.  All of the promise of a robovac - it's the real deal.  I can give it commands, even navigate it around the house with the camera going when I'm at work to take a look if I want.  The auto-empty base station is pretty neat too (well, except for 1 thing)

  Unfortunately there is a design hinderance with it, at least with our specific dog hair situation.  Basically, in the robovac (and the regular Lupe), dog hair tends to ball up - becoming a tumbleweed mass.  The dust bins are fairly small - look closely at video reviews.  The auto-empty stations tend to have smaller openings even yet - ours is on the bottom - two little vents in the dock that go to the bottom of the robot

How does it do?  As indicated it navigates very well.  It cleans pretty decently too - better than I expected in regards to dog hair in the rugs.  As you might imagine it isn't perfect because of how it navigates around objects (it's a round vacuum and some corners it can't get in has dog hair tumbleweeds), but we use our regular vacuum to hit those corners/etc.

We have a three-story townhouse with 2 sets of stairs, about 1500 square feet total. We also have a 100 lb dog that sheds an amount of hair the size of a small child on a daily basis. 

We are two working professionals, so we realistically only get to vacuum once a week even though it could probably use it every day.

We are looking to automate the process a bit and get a robot vacuum that we can run on a daily basis and move to different floors every other day to help keep the place from turning into one huge shag carpet. 

The top floor is carpet, the first and second floor is vinyl with a few rugs here and there.

Any recommendations? I wasn't sure if a robot vacuum is the right solution since the multiple stories and the long narrow setup of the house.

Though will admit, I have noticed increasing muscle tone from hauling our vacuum up and down the floors. Still would gladly let a robot take that over. 

Budget is open -- I will gladly pay for something that is good and saves us time and stress in the long run

- mopping (although I have seen the d9 I think it's called which looks to be the ecovacs competitor to the narwhal)

Ordered Ecovacs T9+ AIVI from AliExpress (this version is not being sold in US) as I needed all these and this was the only one which fit the bill

Once I filtered with these criteria(Auto empty base, LiDAR, Camera AI, Mop) in vacuum wars, it was clear this is what I needed(no results but T9+ AIVI fits the bill)

I bought my Roomba i7+ 2 years ago. A few months back she started giving me an error 16.

 For the exorbitant price I paid for the iRobot, I would expect it to exceed the cleaning performance of my other lower priced robot vacuums. I did not expect it to get stuck constantly, to have as many errors and stoppages, nor did I expect it to go offline as much as it does. I did a lot of research. All the claims were that it had superior cleaning capability

 I have more problems with the iRobot getting stuck and having errors, then with my other robot vacuums. This brand was hyped to be a superior cleaning machine over other brands. That is not the case! I overpaid for a robot vacuum that doesn't work any better than my other robot vacuums. It does not exceed them by a long shot

This is a good robot vacuum, but overpriced. I have two pets a dog and a cat, and I dog sit other pups on the regular. I hate animal hair all over my floors and before I had robot vacuums I would vacuum twice a day. To make life easy, I have three robot vacuums

 I don't have to remember to empty the vacuum after every run. My other robot vacuums must be manually emptied. If I forget to empty the other vacuums they don't clean as well, and when I finally do empty them they're so packed full that the debris falls out when removing the dustbin which causes a mess. Bottom line: is this a good robot vacuum? Yes

 After the first segment (battery depleted) it has at least returned the base to the correct location. I still haven't gotten a response from my emails to customer support that started on 12/5/2020. I've had to add some physical barriers in front of several pieces of furniture and a treadmill to keep the roomba from getting underneath because it gets stuck about half of the time (those old college text books finally came in handy for something. I've also used a baseball bat and the old extension tubes for my central vac that I'm hoping I won't need again

 Update 12/22/2020 The replacement arrived on time. The next day I started mapping runs. It took 3 five hour mapping sessions (including charging time) to generate a complete map so I don't consider the mapping to have been any smoother than the first two but at least this one appears to be accurate. I've started a couple of small cleaning jobs and the roomba seems to be performing as requested with one minor annoyance

 Unfortunately, the map will have to be generated again (third time) but he assures me it will be a much smoother process this time. If so, I expect to give it 4 stars. It's not getting 5 stars until I can more easily generate a map and they can allow indefinite (or at least 24 hour) job delays so I can suspend cleaning overnight and have it pick up where it left off the next. So far cleaning has been adequate but could be better; I assume the "better" would come from the S9 with its greater suction

Didn't work (initially) in my large house.  Replacement worked.

 You can tell iRobot put a lot of effort into this. So I did the mapping run then followed with a "vacuum everywhere" run, no virtual barriers yet. Not only was the robot able to navigate my entire floor cleaning everything, it didn't get stuck once, even under the kitchen cabinets or dining room chairs, truly impressive. It did need a charge in the middle but at an hour or so to top up, the cleaning process completes in a much more reasonable time period

 Also important to note is that the N8 will want to recharge at 15% battery, so the most you ever really get out of this thing is 85%. The next big problem for me was the design of the auto-empty base. They opted to use a dual port discharge method that sucks from 2 doors in the dust bin simultaneously. I was prompted with a firmware update right away so let that run and waited until the next day to do the initial mapping run

 All the areas the N8 falls short work as intended or better on the i7, despite being lower tech. And this is after I was almost positive I wouldn't buy another Roomba!  i7 Pros: -Competitive price -Premium look and feel -Systematic cleaning pattern -Free in-box extras (1 bag, filter, rotating brush) -Excellent battery and charging performance -Excellent auto-empty base -ZERO issue with long pet hair -Intuitive and granular control via the app (clean zones, no go zones, defined rooms that can be scheduled) -Smart Maps works really well  i7 Cons: -Old school vSLAM bump sensor tech that will mar the more stuff it bumps into -RCON sensor sits in harms way atop the bumper -Single rotating brush could be improved -Room lighting is required, this thing doesn't do well in the dark -No variable speed motor = higher noise, about the same as my 960

 The robot functions very well in general and is a very good vacuum, all told. The downsides that I experienced, however, were enough for me to return it. The key cons here are battery life, recharge time, the auto-empty base and getting stuck. Your first step with the N8 is the initial mapping of your floorplan which must be completed fully before you can do anything, I mean anything

 I love the fact that it notifies you each time a job is completed. No more guessing what was cleaned and what wasn't. In my opinion the Roomba I7+ is almost there but needs some adjustments. For the money spent on it I think it would be worth it but for the noise it makes while cleaning

  1. It is very loud when cleaning. As both my wife and I work from home I quickly learned that it can not be run during the day because it is just too loud and distracting. I also found that I couldn't run it in the evenings as it made TV watching unbearable

 I don't believe it picks up as well as my other one because when I compare what I use to clean out of the other ones dustbin with what I see in the bag of the Roomba it just doesn't seem as much. Plus I know our socks are picking up more dog hair than in the past because I see it on our couches and ottomans now. I can tell it does just as well with hair on tile as my old one but not so well on carpet or rugs.  4

I read many, many reviews before I invested in this item, as it was a lot of money to spend, and sometimes a couple of bad reviews make you not want to purchase something. I finally decided to take a chance and purchase the vacuum, and I am glad I did. I’ve had it for a week now, and it has mapped all of the areas in my house I want it to clean. We have 4 children, and I can never count on their rooms being picked up enough to send this in there

 I am extremely happy with it. It is helping me tremendously keeping the house picked up. We have 3 cats and 1 dog who constantly sheds. My biggest concern with these robot vacuums was vacuuming my living room and then it needing me to empty it before it would continue
