 The Emu Teak is a circumoral, closed back design and a variant of the Foster 443742 driver, and in the same family as the more famous Fostex TH900 series. It is composed of a 50mm neodymium magnet biocelular diaphragm and there have been numerous different implementations of this design over the years. Some of the best have included the Denon AHD5000, the Fostex TH610, the Mastroff TRX00 series, and the Fostex TH900 MK2s. But out of all of them, the Emu Teak reigns supreme in my opinion

 Unconsistently, Tile also called the treble hot, and while I hear why he would do so, because it can be rather lively in presentation at times, I would also argue that the treble has a touch of honey to it, remaining pleasurable to one's ears despite being slightly pushed forward in the mix. In the end, the Emu Teak retains an astounding and significant amount of treble detail for this driver model in particular, and it delivers said detail to the listener in a very pleasing and relaxing manner. In contrast, tunings of other headphones which use this driver have come across as sharp, fatiguing, or ear piercing, but the Emu Teak never does. Female singers tend to be more forward and emphasized than male vocals, which are often more laid back in their presentation and significantly less prominent in the mix with the Emu Teak

 These are a fabulous, beautiful-looking closed-back option to consider, irregardless of price, as they are sonically competent enough to rival much more expensive competition. If you're into sound mixing, podcasting, video/\s/editing, radio or recording studios, or any/\s/ environment where you need accurate sound, the/\s/7506s for less than 100 are a must have. There/\s/ is a reason why the 7506s have become and still/\s/are the industry standard used and recognized/\s/ all over the world

The/\s/mids are clean and well separated from the highs/\s/ and lows. In terms of lows, the 7506s provide a real/\s/kick with deep and punchy bass. Crucially, while not/\s/ overpowering the other frequencies, I'm pleased to/\s/say that the highs, mids, and low frequencies are/\s/ all very clearly separated and equally present/\s/what this allows for is very strong instrument/\s/ separation when listening to audio tracks

Sony MDR-7506 Review: This is why these are still used after 30 years...

 And so in many cases, if you're new to voiceover, if you're working on your own YouTube, you're working on your own podcast, chances are you're not necessarily, you're going to be both the talent and the director and the producer and the mixer and the mastering. You're going to be doing all of those things. So you want to make the best possible decision based on what you're hearing through your monitors and through your headphones. So the reason I started with the MDR 7506 is because you see them literally everywhere

 You won't necessarily see them like in the highest end studios, they'll be using much more premium things in this. But I've seen sound engineers, I've been to studios where the engineers are wearing these. I've been filming, not filming, recording commercials where the other person who's recording me is listening on these. I've listened on these when I've recorded in studios

Not everything at the &lt;£100 price point is rubbish...I recently got a £20 Havit Bluetooth receiver and connected it to a pair of £70 Sony MDR-7506 headphones

Do I really need to get out the soldering-iron again?

  I had a pair of orig V6s back in the day and they eventually broke at the slider mount for the earpiece when I sat on them. These are prolly weak in the same way. Should otherwise be durable and long lived.

  Like any reference-class AV device, these are notable for nuanced reproduction and for not calling attention to any aspect of performance. It's all there, but it doesn't make you go wow. It's just very good sound.  Recommend

Great smooth detailed neutral sound, slightly uncomfortable, hinges creak

 Nevertheless, I'm still happy with the design. They are comfortable on my large head, and the cord is just the right length and looseness for me.

 They fit pretty well and require no breaking in. And they have been the same affordable price for decades.  Each pair I've gotten has sounded slightly different, and yet, they're all pretty much the same. The sound is clear and very "standard"

Same as they've always been, which is good

  The first two headsets I tried were earbud headsets. One set (Shure e2c) accomplished sound-isolation via earbuds composed of foam earplugs. Another set (from Phillips) used active noise cancellation. Both worked pretty well, the Shure being the standout for sound quality, but earbuds have a few fundamental problems

 They do a great job of filtering out background noise. I sometimes wear them alone (no music) just to muddle down the noise in the office and on airplanes. They work just well enough - better than nothing but not as isolating as foam earplugs (and certainly more comfortable).  Good sound isolation sets the stage for good sound reproduction
