As a budget laptop shopper, you've got to be willing to make some sacrifices in pursuit of the best value, especially when searching in the $300 to $500 range. Like the 15-inch Dell Inspiron 15 3000 (3505) we reviewed earlier this year, the Dell Inspiron 15 3000 (3511) checks many of the boxes we look for in a good budget laptop&mdash;including a large 15.6-inch display, an easy-to-swallow $323 asking price, and Microsoft&rsquo;s latest operating system, Windows 11

Integrated graphics chips have come a long way, but graphics tests are still difficult to run on budget laptops due to weak GPUs and a lack of memory. Still, we were able to run one 3DMark benchmark to completion. 

The Dell Inspiron 15 3000 (3511) excels as a budget laptop that can handle day-to-day tasks and some very light gaming, and it even comes with Windows 11—all for under $400.

One major difference between this model and the previous 3505 model is the 1,920-by-1,080-pixel display. The full-HD, 15.6-inch anti-glare screen is an upgrade from the 1,280-by-720-pixel resolution of its predecessor and another feather in the cap of this capable budget machine. There is no touch-screen option, but it&rsquo;s not something you&rsquo;d expect in this price range anyway

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 laptop I scored for $1100. It’s able to run games really well but struggles with graphically demanding games.

Not going to stream or anything and I don't mind playing games with medium graphics because I've been playing on ultra low my whole life with my potato laptop. But would something worth around a 1000 run bannerlord and games of that level?

Need a laptop with decent battery life to use during transportation in between school\work and home to do Unity game development and game design around 1000 CA$

I have the Inspiron 15, it’s been great the last month and a half that I have had it, but just the past couple days also have been having weird trackpad issues; mostly issues with scrolling (the trackpad reads that I have three fingers on it and promts all the windows on my desktop to disappear).

Anyone experiencing touchpad problems on his Inspiron 16 Plus 7610? (random taps and swipes, inaccurate finger tracking, etc...)

I did find some laptops with all of these qualities except that they had a 45% NTSC display and 250 nits brightness. 5700U. The Dell Inspiron 15 has everything but the screen is 45% NTSC and 250 nits.

 Its unreal - however I really hate the non-centered keyboard. I paid $1300 Canadian for it (seems like a good deal).

The best business laptop we've tested is the LG gram 17 (2021), a well-built ultraportable laptop with long battery life. Its 17-inch screen is great for split-screen multitasking, and due to its larger size, there's enough room on the keyboard deck to include a Numpad, which is handy for those working with lots of numbers. The keyboard feels great to type on for extended periods, the touchpad is large and responsive, and there are many ports for wired peripherals and external displays. Performance-wise, its Intel 11th Gen. CPU is more than capable of handling productivity tasks like text formatting, web browsing, spreadsheets, and presentations. A macOS alternative would be the Apple MacBook Air 13 (2022). This thin and light laptop has plenty of power to handle photo editing; the downside is a smaller 13-inch display. Also, it only has two USB-C ports, meaning you'll likely need a dock if you want to plug in multiple peripherals. Its M2 SoC is plenty fast, and the battery lasts around 10 to 11 hours of light use. If you want to save even more money, the older Apple MacBook Air 13 (M1, 2020) is still available. At its regular price, it's cheaper than the M2 MacBook Air, and it's often on sale, so you'll likely see it deeply discounted for Black Friday. Its M1 SoC isn't as fast, but still more than capable of handling most photo editing tasks.

 the Lg Gram 16, which is officially the world's lightest 16-inch laptop, which is impressive, although there aren't that many 16-inch laptops on the market. The only other one I can think of really is the Macbook Pro 16, which weighs 2 kilograms. This weighs about the same as a Dell Xps 13 at just 1.19 kilograms

 You are of course going to get much better performance from something like this, although of course you are compromising on it being thicker and heavier. But really, unless you're regularly using demanding apps, the power on offer here with Intel's 11th Gen chips will be more than enough for editing in lightroom, watching Netflix while you're procrastinating on my essay, or even putting together a friend's lockdown birthday video montage in Premiere Pro. It's nothing like as rich or full as you get on, say, the Macbook Pro or even a Dell Xps. Speech and effects are clear enough, and it gets reasonably loud and noise levels, although it does still depend on the laptop, but there's just not much bass to round things out

 Although of course that would compromise battery life and maybe maybe a more aggressive price. These are very expensive as I say at about 1500 pounds or 1700, so you are definitely paying a premium for this ultra lightweight design. That said, I have seen the 16 listed for as low as 1250 pounds already with a lower spec and this actually looks like even better value as you're still getting all the main gram benefits. But what do you reckon? would you go for the 14? Which I don't have, the 16 or the 17 or none of the above? let me know in the comments below

4.7 pounds is pretty normal for gaming and workstation laptops at 15 - 17 inches.  I think a large M1 laptop at half that weight would be very nice, see the LG Gram 17 for instance.

I agree, I had a max spec 2008 15” MBP and at 5.5 pounds it was heavy. My 4 pound 2016 15” MBP was noticeably lighter and I’m not interested in going back to 5+ pounds so I’m getting a 14” M1 Max model.

They have so many models. Generally weight is due to additional cooling solutions as well. SO anyone looking for lightness could choose the 13" base or the Air. For people who really need more power should be happy with the 14 & 16" models. They are only a tad bit heavier than 13" model... so really not a concern. I mean when I life the lenovo T450 or something or put it in a bag pack - that is Heavy (all in my personal context)

For most of us, this seems like a bad trade off. </p>

<p>The weight is maybe a tolerable sacrifice for the macbook pros, because these are pro machines for pro use cases. <strong>For the rest of us?</strong> I hope Apple keeps making the Macbook Air thinner and lighter (so long as it doesn&#39;t compromise durability).</p>
