 This phone is probably going to come up a little bit power shy and I would suggest using an external USB DAC. So this is the Ibasso DC02 USB-C DAC if I connect that to an Android phone here and then to the Dan Club Audio Eon 2 it gives me and not just about enough juice it also makes things a little bit more separated so if you like that kind of thing but sometimes it can sound a bit thin certainly a bit thinner than the phone itself certainly thinner than the AudioQuest Dragonfly Black which interestingly like the V40 comes up a bit short on power so even though I really like the sound of this with the Eon 2 not quite powerful enough I don't think whereas the Dragonfly Red has the goods it has the power this for me would be the the optimal combination that Dragonfly Red USB-C at this phone with the Eon 2. So because of the the warmer nature of the Eon 2 you can probably pair it with a fairly more unforgiving DAC so if you've got a DAC that's a bit brighter but it's got enough power that'll probably work quite nicely as a good counterbalance to the the richer tonality of these portable Dan Club Audio headphones and I guess I can't stress the importance of portability here enough for me it means I can take a high-end audio pair of headphones on the road and protect them enough in their case and put the cable in the case but also a USB DAC in the case that I can use with my phone and with my MacBook Pro I think that's a win for people who travel a lot and want to take good sound with them not every video that we make here is a review sometimes it's just kind of a I guess a news announcement really this is a new model headphone that I've been listening to for the last couple of weeks not really enough to do an in-depth review but enough to kind of give you a flavor of what it offers so I'm just packing the cable into the case here like this and I can wrap it up and then we can go somewhere else so if you like this video please give it a thumbs up below here and if you like my attitude towards portable audio and I'm not entirely hung up on doing comparisons and nitty-gritty every single time a camera is in front of me then please like no please subscribe to this channel and as always thank you so much for watching

So when it comes to detail retrieval from these I wouldn't at all say they sound like the Ether 2 which has that very sort of hyper focused and hyper incisive look into music

These are a little bit more diffuse than the Ether 2 and I would describe them as richer and the top end as smoother. Not on the Ether 2 but then the original Eon, open Eon

 So just for comparison sake this is the Eon 1 travel case you can't really call it a travel case I don't think it's a bit too big but this is the Eon 2 you can see the difference in the size much more portable I would take that on a plane this probably not so much. So I connected these Eon 2 to my LG V40 smartphone here using three and a half mil connector. This phone is probably going to come up a little bit power shy and I would suggest using an external USB DAC. Dan Clark Audio's AEON 2 is a go-anywhere high-end headphone!

 I’d call it refined with a slight boost, resulting in an overall v-shape and fun signature. The texture is good, but drum cymbals are somewhat lacking body, which results in sounding a little too thin. Also, it is quite airy, which is great for some tracks, but it tends to get a little too spread-out in other. It is by no means a lush and soft sounding treble – it focuses on being rather accurate and forward, but is lacking timbre

The midrange is resembling the attributes of an open-back headphone even more. It is very clear, open and airy. The bass never gets in its way, which leads to a very transparent and neutral presentation of the mid frequencies. Male vocals could lack a little body sometimes though

Comfort Now to more positive things – the Aeon 2 Closed are very comfortable (except the cable naturally). It’s mainly due to their deficient weight (especially for a planar headphone). Also, the made in Japan synthetic leather earpads are plush and deep enough to sit comfortably around your ears for hours. Absolutely nothing to complain in this regard

I wanted to love these headphones, badly. They’re beautiful and fit like a glove. As for the sound, I’ll just say it’s thin and I don’t know if this was a fault with my pair, but, they would distort at a very low dB. The distortion was my biggest issue

 I didn’t want to return them, but they are way to expensive for how they sound and yet the design is perfect and so is the feel. I wish I could cross these with my hifiman aryas. Be the perfect headphone for me.

 As for the sound, I’ll just say it’s thin and I don’t know if this was a fault with my pair, but, they would distort at a very low dB. The distortion was my biggest issue. Thin sound that can’t even get loud and that’s just the start. But I like Dan Clark and I don’t want to say all the faults with these headphones

LCD 2 closed not popular but if you are ok with it's weight i'd say go for it. It has better tuning than most closed backs.

In my experience, nothing has managed to beat electrostats. I have the Koss ESP 95x and this thing is absolutely amazing. It feels like you're in a room with speakers, there's so much texture to everything, you hear all the detail without being too overwhelmed. Unfortunately they're not portable and I haven't been using them much due to that, but these are truly magical

That said what cans do you put on when you want something a bit livelier than a “reference sound”?

When I'm out, I almost always use my Etymotic ER4XR - sounds great, and the isolation with the foam tips is incredible.
