Cracks and wear marks show almost immediately and are highly visible. I am fine with this look because these are casual boots for me (jeans/chinos). The style of these boots is not geared for dress attire. The lighter "gum" sole and distressed leather do not lend themselves to a dress-look

Aesthetically, this is one of the nicest shoes / boots I've ever owned. My perspective is that of a financial mere mortal with a budget of max $350-450 and includes brands like Allen Edmonds, Grenson, Frye, and To Boot NY. That said, time will tell whether the "craftsmanship" and quality of the boot align with the superficial first impression. The reason I gave only a 4 star is for a couple of reasons

Length was good but it's very tight over the top of my foot to the point of discomfort. I will be returning

I used this pair to attend a wedding and subsequent travels; the comfort level of this formal boots was a surprise! Fit and finish for any shoes cannot be compromised and this pair certainly delivered. They look great dressy, classy, rugged or casual.
