For $2,600, you get a light and compliant carbon frame, a smooth-shifting Shimano GRX 22-speed drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, and ample clearance for tires up to 45 millimeters wide for damping rough roads. Other thoughtful features include a rubber downtube protector to ward off high-speed rock impacts and a chainstay guard to help keep the chain quiet on bumpy rides. Added up, you’d be hard-pressed to find a similarly equipped and well-made carbon design at this price point.

Why do we have the Giant Revolt Advanced 2 ranked below the Cannondale? Both are top-notch gravel bikes, but the simple answer is that we don't think the $450 bump in cost is worth it for most riders. The bikes share the same Shimano GRX 800/600 drivetrain and GRX 400 brakes, and we’ve found Cannondale’s aluminum builds are impressively comfortable (a common knock on aluminum is it’s too harsh). But if you’re more interested in gravel races than mellow rides, the lighter carbon-framed Revolt Advanced 2 is a solid buy. I've got a 2021 Giant Revolt Advanced 2 and it's perfect for comfortable long rides. The most I've done in one day is a little over 100KM on the road and 80KM on gravel (not the same day). Next year I plan on getting semi-slick gravel tires for it as I don't want to spend the money on 2 wheel and tire sets. It's a perfect bike for gravel and road and super comfortable

Does anyone have any experience with using a bike setup for road and gravel? I am looking to buy a new bike and I currently ride road 100% of the time, but I'd like to get into gravel and get away from traffic as much as possible in the future.

My ideal setup would be a decent endurance frame and two sets of wheels for road and gravel. So obviously it would need a good amount of clearance.

In an ideal world I'd just have one of each, but space is really at a premium and I want to explore options.

Dual purpose setup for road and gravel

 haven't seen one of those in Mm a decade. I Will say that for $1000 it looks pretty darn good don't you think? I mean nice paint job, halfway decent welds Carbon Fiber Fork The real question for me with any bike in this price range is do all the parts work. Does it work as advertised and given that the stuff is from Shimano that's a pretty good start. But that's really one of the big things we're gonna be testing this week is: can this bike for $1000 stack up anywhere near the bikes that are two, three, four, five times more money? Most of the bikes in This test fall into one of two categories

2020 Field Test: Giant Revolt 2, a $1,000 gravel bike

 [Applause] At the rear, the combination of skinny stays and the new defused post gives the posterior an almost floaty air. The 8.33 kilo weight sounds somewhat average on paper, but the revolve zero rides like a much much lighter bike. A lot of that is down to the new Cxr wheel set with a weight of 1398 grams a pair

 While it bears more than a passing resemblance to the outgoing bike, at the heart of this revolve is an all-new frame set. The frame details share much of Giant's signature design cues from the road range the triangulated head tube to the junction of the top and down tube because the Tcx Cyclocross bike with a little bit of Tcr thrown in too. You also get the low slung sloping top tube, so it's equally easy to move around on the bike when the going gets technical. At the back, the overly seat tube with its aerostyle cutaway looks very much like the Defy, as do the drop seat stays

 The reach has also been extended out to 397 millimeters from 391 to make the ride position a little racier. Although the stack height has grown by 14 mil, which means I could run the stem on, the Revolt pretty much slammed. [Music] Any thoughts of Shimano bringing the 12-speed semi-wireless updates to Grx or 2022 seem unlikely because The Revolt has the 11 speed Grx Rx 815 throughout. For me, that's a great thing

 When I found out a new Revolt was on the horizon this past winter, I felt a little bit apprehensive about where Giant would be taking the gravel bike that's impressed me in its previous guyses.
