 That EVA as well also works as a really good dampening layer. So add to that the rebound dampening that's added inside it as well. And you've got a boot that sits you super close to the board but it's also a boot that really dampens your foot out, gives you a smooth all day riding feel to that boot. The problem is if you go too close to the board sometimes the vibrations from the board can work through to the feet but with that combination of EVA and rebounds it's not going to happen on this boot

 What it's also going to do is it's going to lock this liner right into the shell as well and again working with all those other systems on this boot it's just going to give you a really responsive and dynamic ride. Anything that you put into this is just going to get transferred straight to the board. So it is going to be super responsive. What that harness also does as well it actually frees up the bottom part of the boot because if you look where it mounts it mounts from here and comes up to here so this bottom part is free to flex a lot more naturally and it again just works to give this boot it's really smooth overall feel

 Now this state of the art liner is constructed of Ultralon heat mouldable foam. Now Ultralon foam is one of the best heat mouldable foams there is. When you heat mould this boot it really does change and it really does sit around the foot perfectly. That great fit is just going to give you a really dynamic ride and it's also going to be super comfortable as well

 So let's take a look at the liner because the liner in this boot is something a little bit special. So the iron utilises what Burton call their Life Liner. Now this state of the art liner is constructed of Ultralon heat mouldable foam. Now Ultralon foam is one of the best heat mouldable foams there is

Anyone riding Nidecker Kaon-X binding?

Forget about the Genesis binding it will be too soft for you. I would recommend stepping up to the Ion Step On boot though as it will last longer, has a better liner and has three points of adjustment rather than, really one boa, on the photon. The other boa just handles the strap over your foot.

. Really if you're over 200lbs, the Ion is the only choice I'd you don't want your boot to be a soft noodle after a 50 days..

 So I guess TJ, if you're going for some park tricks, you'd maybe loosen off the boa strap a little bit. Yeah, I think, I mean, I wouldn't leave it hanging open like this, but yeah, I think if I wanted more tweakability, more flex, I'd leave it undone. Not all the way though.  I think, yeah, I'd say 100% that those added like faux ankle straps definitely help give the boot a more responsive feel, and it makes sense, you know, because all the responsiveness is because of the boot, not because of the straps or the binder or anything.  You can customize the top versus the bottom. And then, click in this strap here, the faux ankle strap as they would call it. Just makes it feel like there's a real binding on your foot. Alright, so how does that feel? First impressions? Feels snug, feels tight, and feels pretty firm

2020 Burton Step On Complete Overview

Graduating from my noobie gear after about 20 days of riding last season. Had a 156 Rome rocker/flat/rocker board with a medium flex. I spent those 20 days in size 10 boots for a size 9 foot, so I was dealing with a lot of heal lift and my toes were curling to push onto toe side. I picked up Burton Photons + Step On Genesis and they fit awesome, so that problem is solved

 You can soften it up by loosening up the upper lacing to make it feel like the ion, and then you can crank it down if you wanna have something that's gonna react really, really quick for those faster days. You really get everything in this boot. All right, Jason, thanks for giving us a little run through on the new 2223 lineup for Step-On Stuff.  And one thing that I always say too, especially when it comes to some of these higher end boots is that they're obviously there for the performance, but they are kind of an investment too. With that lifeliner, you're gonna get a boot that's gonna last longer. It's not gonna break down as fast. Not that the boots break down super fast anyway, but for people that are keeping their gear for 10 plus years and you want a boot that's really gonna stand the test of time, you spend a little bit more money now and it's gonna prevent you from having to replace your boots or replace your liners down the road

 Yep, yeah, like a Mission or like a Cartel or Malavita. Yep, so very, very similar, just kind of right down the middle flex to it. And just, you know, the power you can generate with Step-On just because, you know, you're held back here, you're not pushing on the strap that's mounted over here. You know, they're just so much more responsive

You're actually lifting your heel side edge from your heel side edge, and you're actually lifting your toe side edge from your toe side edge and not relying on the strap as much

22/23 Burton Step On Line Up

 Now the Step-On X was a newcomer for last season and it offers the stiffest flex rating in the line. Both the base plate and the high back are made with a 50-50 carbon nylon composite and this gives you a really snappy and reactive feel underfoot. Think about pairing these with something like the hometown hero snowboard where you're looking to get the most drive and performance out of the board. I'd say they're best suited for stronger intermediate and advanced riders purely because of how responsive they are

 You can see here in terms of their flex they're pretty solid. Burton rate them at around a six to nine out of ten and of course just like you'd expect to find on other bindings they come with a full EVA footbed to help soak up some of those bigger landings and impacts and absorb underfoot vibrations. You can also pull that toe ramp forward to give you the perfect footprint size for whatever boots you're wearing. The high back also comes equipped with forward lean but it's actually tucked away just in here so you're going to need to have a screwdriver handy if you do want to change the angle of this

 Think about pairing these with something like the hometown hero snowboard where you're looking to get the most drive and performance out of the board.
