 That EVA as well also works as a really good dampening layer. So add to that the rebound dampening that's added inside it as well. And you've got a boot that sits you super close to the board but it's also a boot that really dampens your foot out, gives you a smooth all day riding feel to that boot. The problem is if you go too close to the board sometimes the vibrations from the board can work through to the feet but with that combination of EVA and rebounds it's not going to happen on this boot

 What it's also going to do is it's going to lock this liner right into the shell as well and again working with all those other systems on this boot it's just going to give you a really responsive and dynamic ride. Anything that you put into this is just going to get transferred straight to the board. So it is going to be super responsive. What that harness also does as well it actually frees up the bottom part of the boot because if you look where it mounts it mounts from here and comes up to here so this bottom part is free to flex a lot more naturally and it again just works to give this boot it's really smooth overall feel

 Now this state of the art liner is constructed of Ultralon heat mouldable foam. Now Ultralon foam is one of the best heat mouldable foams there is. When you heat mould this boot it really does change and it really does sit around the foot perfectly. That great fit is just going to give you a really dynamic ride and it's also going to be super comfortable as well

 So let's take a look at the liner because the liner in this boot is something a little bit special. So the iron utilises what Burton call their Life Liner.  Hi everybody, Jeremy from The Snowboard Asylum here and today we're going to take a look

 Now I think it's pretty fair to say that the Ion is the boot that really revolutionised

 When it was first launched it really was a revelation.

 It utilised some things that had never been seen before in snowboard boot design and pretty

 much firmly established itself as the go-to boot for expert riders.

 Now every year Burton really do refine this boot and over the years it has stayed at the

 So much so that it's still seen as the benchmark snowboard boot.

 So for this year Burton have made a few changes to it and it still sits atop of the tree.

 Going in at about 8 out of 10 for stiffness, that means it's a pretty stiff boot.

 So if you're looking for something that's just going to give you lightning fast reactions,

 let you ride at 10 tenths all the time, then this is probably the boot for you.

 Now the beauty of the Ion, it's not just about performance, it's also about fit as well.

 This is without a doubt one of the best fitting snowboard boots on the market too.

 So the first thing to look at is the closure system.

 Utilising a dual bow closure system, this is the advanced high power focus system.

 It utilises two H4 coilers, so H4 coiler for the front closure, H4 coiler for the side

 Now the H4 closure is the latest version of the bow system.

 Really kind of the main feature of that is that these can actually break off, but if

 you do break them off, you just push them back on.

 With the old bow system, if you kind of snap one off, you have to replace the actual whole

 coiler, but these, if they undergo excess force, these closures will just pop off, but

 Don't think that means that they come off easy because they don't.

 You've got to have a pretty hard impact to knock them off.

 So let's kind of run through the system.

 So pop out to open on the front and back.

 When you open them out, they will both naturally uncoil.

 That's the beauty of that coiler system there.

 You're not winding them down, so it's super simple.

 Now the side mounted bow controls the lower lacing section.

 The front mounted bow controls the top part of the lace.

 So that side mount there is going to tighten up and it's that that's going to lock your

 foot into place and really give you that secure feeling inside the boot.

 The top closure runs down like so and that gives you the closure at the top.

 So if you want a more relaxed riding day, you can ride this a little bit looser.

 If you want a day hard charging around the mountain, you can run this a little bit tighter.

 Now the advantage of the H4 coiler operates at a four to one closure ratio.

 So that gives you real micro adjustment on that closure so you can dial it in to give

 Lacing system utilizes New England ropes.

 Now the big advantage of those New England ropes over the old stainless steel rope is

 that it just runs through the eye that's a lot cleaner and a lot smoother.

 So you just get a more natural lacing and it's going to tighten evenly over the whole

 So just again, it's one of those things that works towards giving you a better fit.

 Now what you've also got on this to step up performance, runs to a welded backstay at

 That welded backstay just reinforces the whole boot, just gives it a more dynamic feel overall.

 It's going to sit nicely in the back of the high back creating a lot tighter interface.

 So any information that you put into the boot is just going to get transferred straight

 And create a real lively and dynamic response.

 That's also going to prevent breakdown of the back of the boot.

 So you're going to retain more performance for longer in this boot.

 Tongue wise utilizes the Firm Flex Power Up Tongue.

 That's a little bit of a stiffer tongue in the boot, again just aiding that response

 It also sits really close around the liner as well, removing any spaces between the liner

 So again that's going to work to really direct energy straight to the board.

 Any little bit of movement you put in there is going to get transferred straight through

 the shell to the binding and therefore to the board.

 So all that works again just to make this boot responsive and lively.

 You've also got here a snow proof internal gusset.

 What that snow proof internal gusset does is just seals the tongue and the shell of
