 I'd say go with that Dream Foam Chill Memory Foam If you want an explicit memory foam feel and you want to be able to pick and choose your height profile and your firmness, I'd say go with that Arctic Dreams If you're not really sure exactly what you want, you just want something accommodating, go with that Copper Dreams if you're a side sleeper and one lot of pressure relief and then go with that Elements Latex.  Again, with that 10 inch model, you're going to be getting more of a firm memory foam feel. You're going to sink into that top layer a little bit, but that memory foam layer is kind of thin so it won't be super pronounced.  I (135 lbs now) have started to sleep on this to transition my daughter out of our bed and it's not comfortable at all for me. The bed is really soft and if I lay on my side I end up with uncomfortable pressure points and am sore in the morning. Works great for kids but I would pass if you're and adult. We ordered a different Dreamfoam mattress (8" cooling gel) for sons Jeep bed and this is in my daughters corvette bed now and that is firmer and more comfortable for me

 There was several inches of space around the bed in the frame but that was needed for putting on sheets and tucking in the comforter. My 40 pound son loves his new mattress, and mom does too! Both dad (275) and I (150) will lay with him to get him to sleep and are comfortable. My husband says he wouldn't want to spend the night on it but was surprised that such a thin mattress was comfortable and I have napped on it comfortably myself. I don't think this need a topper, and I didn't notice any strong odor to the foam

I don't think mattresses are really BIFL.  Getting 10 years out of one is great.

For me, I recently upgraded 2 mattresses and simply went with reasonably quality "roll a bed" mattresses that are all pretty similar.  I enjoy "firm" memory foam mattresses, so it worked out well for me to simply narrow it down to a few brands and find the best deal - currently on a Bear Pro I got for iirc $700 shipped w/ pillows and a mattress protector.  I like it, but I already can tell I will be replacing in in 3-5 years which is fine.  More DIY friends made fun of me because you can basically build the same thing for probably $200 or less in materials if you buy them and put the layers together yourself.

The other route is you can go for Latex if you like the memory foam style - e.g. Tempurpedic.  These will last quite some time and get good reviews, but make sure you enjoy the style first.  They'll be in the $2-4k range iirc.

Beyond that is a level I didn't really consider that some others have posted here - the truly "luxury" mattress brands.   I could never really decipher the bullshit from the real so I kinda gave up and went with a cheap foam.

Previously when younger I had hookups that worked at the W and was able to simple get one of their mattresses at the employee pricing which I recall being not cheap, but not ripoff - probably around a grand for a queen.  That's probably one of the better routes to go if you have the industry connections.  That mattress was great - but was getting pretty worn out after 8 or so years of use, sagging a lot. 

Everyone loves the saying "don't cheap out on a mattress, you spend a third of your life on it!" and I agree with the theory.  The problem is finding any sort of quality:value metric that makes sense.  The Bear Pro's I got recent for my new place seem pretty much identical to the extremely overpriced ($2200k iirc) Sealy I got made of similar if not identical materials from my old spot.

If you could convince me you legitimately have a mattress that helps me sleep 20% better or is 20% more comfortable than what I have now and would last forever I'd spend 5 figures in a second.  I just don't think any such thing exists.

Since doing my research on it I simply decided mattresses are not BIFL - treat them as you would any other disposable wear item.  Get a decent value and don't be super picky.   Much like non-stick pans - no such thing as BIFL, just wait for a decent deal on a midtier mass market brand and don't worry about abusing it.  Not worth spending 3-4x as much to get maybe 2x the life out of.

Brand recommendations for mattress?

 I wanted cool and comfy, and that is what I got!!! It took maybe 5 minutes to expand completely and it is measurably 6". The bottom is non-skid so it stays where you put it, which sounds like a simple thing, but it really isn't common. And seriously, it is soooo much cooler than my pillow top Posturpedic (sp?) mattress that cost many times this price.  So, what you might be wondering is, how soft is it? I would say it's pretty cushy, not nearly as firm as most mattresses, but not pillowy either

Just wanted to share my experience with Zinus. I bought a Queen 10" memory foam in 2017. It felt great at first and nearly cured my back pain!(I've had back surgery and a somewhat debilitating ongoing pain at times). I was pumped as this was life-changing for me at the time

However 6-9 months later the support weakened and after rotating to the other side and sleeping in the middle I found I had worn out the support in all areas of the mattress. So after about 2 years the whole mattress felt more like a hammock.

I bought my Zinus green tea 12" mattress because I needed something cheap. Right out of the box, it was the most comfortable mattress I ever slept on. It supported my back so perfectly, I'd lie in bed and marvel at my magical $300 mattress. Well, one year later it started to sag, and now it's awful

So, many on this sub know about how Zinus mattresses are pretty ehhhh in terms of quality... especially in regards to the whole fiberglass thing.

But, I do love the way the Zinus Green Tea foam mattress feels.  I honestly haven't encountered a better one.  I tried a Purple mattress, but I hated how heavy it was to transport and it was too firm for my liking.

Anybody know a higher-quality mattress that feels a lot like the Zinus one?  Thanks.

 Heavy bed.  All in all - I got a great deal at onesixty for the 12 inch twin and hopefully this works for my daughter for a decade plus. Thank you Amazon for the awesome price.

12 inch twin here - very comfy - but quite soft. (medium plush if we are using mattress terms?) edge support is.. next to none

Soft - make sure you want a really soft/squishy bed - Not firm at all.

 1, buy a cheap mattress and replace it often. 2, buy a more expensive mattress and it will last long enough to pay for itself (you hope).

I will say, however, that my mattress for the last 3+ years has been a $350 Zinus and it's just now getting to the point that I need to do something about it.

We get a lot of posts from people looking for the "best" mattress, and unfortunately these questions are really difficult to answer. Mattresses vary widely by comfort and quality, and what is good for one person isn't necessarily good for someone else.

However! There are a lot of brands I'd recommend that you AVOID AT ALL COSTS. These are brands that make mattresses of unknown materials, have a consistent history of terrible customer service, or are suspicious in other ways. This doesn't mean that their mattresses are always bad (or that you can't learn to sleep well on them), it just means that purchasing these is a much riskier proposition. So without further ado...

1) Nectar. I'd avoid them. We've gotten more complaints about Nectar (and the other brands associated with their parent company Resident Home) over the last three years than any other mattress company. I've seen material substitutions, poor quality, and reports of customer service ghosting customers after purchase. I don't trust them whatsoever.

2) Dreamcloud. Owned by the same company (Resident Home) as above. They use unknown materials, are constantly changing the construction of their mattresses, and have a terrible track record. Hard pass.

3) Puffy. Much like Dreamcloud, Puffy has a poor track record with customer service and material substitutions. There are no details on the foams they use, and I generally don't trust them.

4) Zinus/Lucid/Linenspa. These are generally the cheapest mattresses on the market and imported from overseas. These are made of unknown materials (and likely bottom of the barrel in terms of quality), and typically have fiberglass fire barriers. In fact, there are ongoing class-action lawsuits against Zinus for their use of fiberglass fire barriers. No idea how that will shake out, but I'd avoid them.

5) Molecule. I don't see this one mentioned a lot, but the last time I looked at their material specifications their base foam was only 1.5lb/pcf. As a general rule of thumb, do not buy a foam mattress with a base foam under 1.8lb/pcf unless it's intended for a guestroom or occasional use.

6) Serta/Simmons/Sealy/Stearns. I'd avoid these with the possible exception of some of their higher-end (and higher coil count) models. These generally use low quality foams, but can have some pretty excellent coil units. I would absolutely avoid the lower-end models though. These will quickly lose loft and support.

And those are the ones that come to mind right now. Any that I missed? What do you think?

Let's Talk About Brands To Avoid

 It's going to help dilute some of the excess body heat that gets trapped in the mattress, further preventing you from getting too hot. Another nice thing about the cooling system of this mattress is that the core of the mattress lined with springs also has some airflow channels to help improve the mattress's breathability. Now, as far as the general feel of the mattress itself goes, this mattress does have a medium firmness, so it's not really the softest one out there. and even though the top memory foam layer is a little bit softer, it's not going to have that cloud-like feel did a lot of memory foam mattresses have in the core of the mattress

 Even though it is a spring mattress and typically spring mattresses tend to be a little bit bouncy and more flexible than solid foam mattresses. This particular mattress is just really firm, so the plus side to that is it's gonna provide really good back support. So if you're looking for something like that, this mattress is gonna be a great option. But this was a quick look at the Zionist Cooling Copper Pocket Spring hybrid mattress
