 I'd say go with that Dream Foam Chill Memory Foam If you want an explicit memory foam feel and you want to be able to pick and choose your height profile and your firmness, I'd say go with that Arctic Dreams If you're not really sure exactly what you want, you just want something accommodating, go with that Copper Dreams if you're a side sleeper and one lot of pressure relief and then go with that Elements Latex. If you like the idea of that more bouncy, responsive feel and you like the idea of having a natural and organic mattress, but let us know what you think, Which of these four dream foam beds would you most likely go with?  Again, with that 10 inch model, you're going to be getting more of a firm memory foam feel. You're going to sink into that top layer a little bit, but that memory foam layer is kind of thin so it won't be super pronounced.  I (135 lbs now) have started to sleep on this to transition my daughter out of our bed and it's not comfortable at all for me. The bed is really soft and if I lay on my side I end up with uncomfortable pressure points and am sore in the morning. Works great for kids but I would pass if you're and adult. We ordered a different Dreamfoam mattress (8" cooling gel) for sons Jeep bed and this is in my daughters corvette bed now and that is firmer and more comfortable for me

 There was several inches of space around the bed in the frame but that was needed for putting on sheets and tucking in the comforter. My 40 pound son loves his new mattress, and mom does too! Both dad (275) and I (150) will lay with him to get him to sleep and are comfortable. My husband says he wouldn't want to spend the night on it but was surprised that such a thin mattress was comfortable and I have napped on it comfortably myself. I don't think this need a topper, and I didn't notice any strong odor to the foam

I don't think mattresses are really BIFL.  Getting 10 years out of one is great.

For me, I recently upgraded 2 mattresses and simply went with reasonably quality "roll a bed" mattresses that are all pretty similar.  I enjoy "firm" memory foam mattresses, so it worked out well for me to simply narrow it down to a few brands and find the best deal - currently on a Bear Pro I got for iirc $700 shipped w/ pillows and a mattress protector.  I like it, but I already can tell I will be replacing in in 3-5 years which is fine.  More DIY friends made fun of me because you can basically build the same thing for probably $200 or less in materials if you buy them and put the layers together yourself.

The other route is you can go for Latex if you like the memory foam style - e.g. Tempurpedic.  These will last quite some time and get good reviews, but make sure you enjoy the style first.  They'll be in the $2-4k range iirc.

Beyond that is a level I didn't really consider that some others have posted here - the truly "luxury" mattress brands.   I could never really decipher the bullshit from the real so I kinda gave up and went with a cheap foam.

Previously when younger I had hookups that worked at the W and was able to simple get one of their mattresses at the employee pricing which I recall being not cheap, but not ripoff - probably around a grand for a queen.  That's probably one of the better routes to go if you have the industry connections.  That mattress was great - but was getting pretty worn out after 8 or so years of use, sagging a lot. 

Everyone loves the saying "don't cheap out on a mattress, you spend a third of your life on it!" and I agree with the theory.  The problem is finding any sort of quality:value metric that makes sense.  The Bear Pro's I got recent for my new place seem pretty much identical to the extremely overpriced ($2200k iirc) Sealy I got made of similar if not identical materials from my old spot.

If you could convince me you legitimately have a mattress that helps me sleep 20% better or is 20% more comfortable than what I have now and would last forever I'd spend 5 figures in a second.  I just don't think any such thing exists.

Since doing my research on it I simply decided mattresses are not BIFL - treat them as you would any other disposable wear item.  Get a decent value and don't be super picky.   Much like non-stick pans - no such thing as BIFL, just wait for a decent deal on a midtier mass market brand and don't worry about abusing it. Brand recommendations for mattress?

 I wanted cool and comfy, and that is what I got!!! It took maybe 5 minutes to expand completely and it is measurably 6". The bottom is non-skid so it stays where you put it, which sounds like a simple thing, but it really isn't common. And seriously, it is soooo much cooler than my pillow top Posturpedic (sp?) mattress that cost many times this price.  So, what you might be wondering is, how soft is it? I would say it's pretty cushy, not nearly as firm as most mattresses, but not pillowy either

I’m currently sleeping on the 25+ year old mattress that I was conceived on. As you can imagine I’m very excited to graduate from this one for multiple reasons. 

After trying out a handful of different mattresses and understanding the ridiculous prices of some, I’ve come to the conclusions that 1) I prefer a medium/firm bed, and 2) I’m poor. I visited IKEA today and found the $500 Heston mattress (queen size). Curious if anyone has any experience with it, how it holds up, or any advice whatsoever. Thanks in advance!

my mother has severe spinal stenosis (several discs have broken down, she's had rods and screws installed with little benefit, as well as a torn glute repair. take care of your spines, kids.) she's 56, ~155, and sleeps on her back, prefers med-firm or firm. her gentleman companion says he's comfortable on whatever. while they were moving in together I bought them a zinus, warning them that it would break down fairly quickly and need to be replaced, and that it would be a pain when it did. the time has come.

she's up every night in serious pain, and sometimes doesn't bother trying to sleep at all. her job is very difficult and both emotionally and physically demanding, especially during covid. I don't feel like I can waste her time with a bunch of returns or DIYing something, though the zippered mattresses with layers seem doable.

she's willing to spend up to $3500 and is interested in latex or a latex hybrid for its lifespan. I'd like to avoid memory foam and memory foam hybrids because if the next mattress sags within five years I'm going to turn into the Joker.

currently looking at the Alexander nest hybrid or an Ikea hesstun mattress+good latex topper, since we live fairly close to an Ikea and a return would plausibly be easier than dealing with a mattress company.
can anyone point me in the right direction, or confirm my instincts?
