 that's good. It has a level tone and a distortion knob and it has two modes where one is turbo and you can engage that with the remote control. I'll just use the knob for that now, but I'll get it hooked up and see what it sounds like. Okay, so what else do I have here? I have a Mahogany Strat with Seymour Duncan Yjm Fury pickups going into a Marshall 1987 ex

 but yeah, it's not entirely my cup of tea. It does sound. The turbo mode sounds like it has some kind of war thing going on, so like you were standing on a wall in a certain position. It's fun

 a Plexi and a Marshall Cab I this is my clean tone yeah and I also have a bit of delay and I have my Fender Yngwie Malmsteen overdrive just to give you a reference tone for because that's kind of the tone that I'm usually after and as you can hear it makes a lot of noise. So I have a noise gate. This is my kind of regular tone if you're new to the channel. [Music] and here is the boss: Terrible distortion with everything set to 12 and it's now in the regular distortion mode so it's not turbocharged yet

 Okay, so that's not pleasant. I think I like it somewhere in the middle. Okay, so now I have tone at 12 o'clock and I put level and distortion at 3 o'clock and this is what it sounds like now. [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] Yeah, hey, maybe not entirely my cup of tea

So imagine my surprise when I get a used DS-2 for a steal on ebay and its actually a good pedal! This pedal does what the DS-1 was SUPPOSED to do but failed at: Its a good, general purpose distortion. Its not a super saturated sound, but its a likable tone that's far more full than the DS-1 ever got. Also unlike the DS-1, it sounds great on every amp I've tried it on (one of which seems to hate boss pedals, so I was very impressed by that)

It was a noisy, brittle, fake sounding tone, and I didn't find a likeable sound no matter the settings or what guitar or amp I was running it through

 Its not a super saturated sound, but its a likable tone that's far more full than the DS-1 ever got. Also unlike the DS-1, it sounds great on every amp I've tried it on (one of which seems to hate boss pedals, so I was very impressed by that).  Its not a metal distortion, but for classic rock crunch, this pedal does just fine. I actually stacked it up against my script era MXR Distortion + and I was able to dial in a tone that sounded very similar, if just a touch less transparent

I'm surprised at how much I like this pedal...

 I put it in my effect loop, right before my chorus pedal, like I did before. It uses your amp's clean preamp to shape the tone- why do you think it has no EQ section? It's because your amp's preamp already shaped your tone, the AG just adds more distortion to it. By using an amp's clean preamp to shape the tone of an effects-loop-distortion-pedal, there is so much more definition and clarity. When one uses the preamp to distort the signal, one loses definition
