 that's good. It has a level tone and a distortion knob and it has two modes where one is turbo and you can engage that with the remote control. I'll just use the knob for that now, but I'll get it hooked up and see what it sounds like. Okay, so what else do I have here?  a Plexi and a Marshall Cab I this is my clean tone yeah and I also have a bit of delay and I have my Fender Yngwie Malmsteen overdrive just to give you a reference tone for because that's kind of the tone that I'm usually after and as you can hear it makes a lot of noise. So I have a noise gate. This is my kind of regular tone if you're new to the channel. [Music] and here is the boss: Terrible distortion with everything set to 12 and it's now in the regular distortion mode so it's not turbocharged yet

 Long story short I had it modded into a particular Marshall overdrive circuit and its now fantastic as it sounds nothing like the stock models.  So imagine my surprise when I get a used DS-2 for a steal on ebay and its actually a good pedal! This pedal does what the DS-1 was SUPPOSED to do but failed at: Its a good, general purpose distortion. Its not a super saturated sound, but its a likable tone that's far more full than the DS-1 ever got. Also unlike the DS-1, it sounds great on every amp I've tried it on (one of which seems to hate boss pedals, so I was very impressed by that)

 Its a hobby, addiction, whatever you wanna call it, I've owned way too many of these things.  One of my least favorite pedals was the Boss DS-1. Sure, it was inexpensive and extremely durable, but it sounded lousy. It was a noisy, brittle, fake sounding tone, and I didn't find a likeable sound no matter the settings or what guitar or amp I was running it through

 Its not a super saturated sound, but its a likable tone that's far more full than the DS-1 ever got. Also unlike the DS-1, it sounds great on every amp I've tried it on (one of which seems to hate boss pedals, so I was very impressed by that).  Its not a metal distortion, but for classic rock crunch, this pedal does just fine. I actually stacked it up against my script era MXR Distortion + and I was able to dial in a tone that sounded very similar, if just a touch less transparent

I'm surprised at how much I like this pedal...

 It's pretty similar to a Ds1, just a little little raunch here on the front end. a little bit more grit from the diodes as you push the tone and distortion up. It can get pretty raspy though. Show you what that sounds like here

 Now one thing this pedal has going on is two-level settings or the turbo settings. I Guess one is pretty much the pretty typical Ds1 kind of voicing. The two gives you kind of a peaked mids and it is actually foot switchable. You can plug a remote switch in there and it'll kind of act as two distortion boxes in one

 I'll let you hear what that sounds like. See here there you get quite a quite a kick to the mid range, gives you sort of a reverse scoop, a lot more sustained, sort of. The turbo to is kind of like what you'd use for soloing, kind of kick it on and go from there on the one, it'd be more of just kind of a crunch sort of power chord setting. Of course, with that boost in the mid-range you also get pretty good boost in volume or at least perceived volume, and that's pretty much it

Boss DS-1 is my default answer but it really depends on what type of distortion you want. I’m not sure of the exchange rate but I believe a Wampler Tumnus is within range. A used Archer is also in that range. Also consider the Soul Food

before i give you my review i want to give you my music history so you understand where my review is coming from.  my background: ive been playing guitar for sixteen years. my musical experience is mostly in playing/writing/performing original music( mostly in rock/pop based music). i've put our records with bands and played shows

 ive played some covers in bands but mostly original songs.  my gear: peavey valveking 112, ibanez ax120, elixar strings  my review: this is a great distortion pedal it deserves five stars. the only reason i gave it four stars is because it is an acquired taste.try it before you buy it 

. it reminds of that weezer/nirvana 90s rock sound. it comes with the standard distortion controls (volume,tone,gain) but it also comes with added turbo modes turbo mode one has more warth decent amount of gain but not too much while turbo mode 2 sounds turbo mode one with a good amount of "preamp boost", more treble more , more gain, more volume. for what i was playing at the time (punk/ska) i liked it

Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion

I’ve heard the best ones are the Boss DS-1 and DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedals. The price difference implies there’s quite a difference between the two but I don’t understand what that is. I’m trying to mimic the sound of the electric guitar solos from RHCP, Nirvana, Sam Fender and Declan Mckenna (particularly his song Basic (regurgitated)).

[DISCUSSION] - ***No Stupid Questions*** Spring into Summer 2021

I really like this little box. It gives a nice distorted sound when I want to play some of the newer rock songs. I mainly play a strat copy with real Fender pickups. This pedal doesn't muddy up the sound, just a nice clean distortion

  That said, I tend to like my old Blues Driver better for most cases. The DS-2 tends to focus on the mids and highs while the BD-2 gives a little more bottom to my sound.

Exactly what you'd expect from a DS-2

So I have been playing for a little more than a year now, and I am completely addicted. I play whenever I can basically, and I'm having a lot of fun. When I started out, I didn't know a lot about guitars, amplifiers, music I wanted to play, etc. So I bought a Squier Affinity Telecaster and a Fender Champion 20. 

So far I am very satisfied with my gear, but since guitar has become a big passion of me now, I want to buy some new gear. I feel like my current gear is missing something, it sounds nice, but I want it to sound better. I have become a huge fan of Jimi Hendrix and John Frusciante, so I would like to buy something that would get me closer to their tone.

So my question is: What should be my first buy that would upgrade my tone significantly? Should I buy a better amplifier? Or should I buy a pedal? Or just straight up save money for a better guitar? I am quite clueless, and I don't know where to start. All advice is appreciated.
