Even more than four decades after it's originally released it's still worth buying in my opinion and it's overall a great pedal.

Don't get me wrong, the sound of the Rat has always been great. But switching it on, you lose SO much volume and low end...at least, with humbuckers, you do. The range of distortion is *amazing*. It’s the distortion sound I’ve been hearing in my head for so long, and now I have it. It also pairs great with my other pedals - running the SD-1 into the RAT or running the RAT into the pumpkin pi sounds amazing, perfect for solo boosts and walls of sound. Overall, I’m extraordinarily happy with this pedal - looking forward to keeping it on my board for a long time!.

I have around 35 distortion/overdrive/fuzzes, and nothing has even come close to being as useful as a lowly ProCo RAT for me. Even with essentially no controls, it just works better at all gain ranges, with every source than anything else I own. The filter in that box is just perfect. Personally, I’ve always found big desktop units with all sorts of options extremely uninspiring.

The filter feature on this pedal increased the volume of the amp by 5 db or more when in hi pass which is a tone not very pleasant to my ear but good for some rhythm. Not the pedal for me. Love that it’s built like a tank though.

LOVE this thing. Every pedal today has a circuit board in it, just can’t get the same sound. It’s so CRUNCHY.
