We use this for two of my kids when backpacking. Very reasonable weight when split between two people. If you want to still be in one tent as your kid gets older, though, a 3p tent may be a little tight.

I bought it for my wife and me and we love it! there is enough space for both of us with 25-inch air mattresses and our backpacks inside the bedroom, not the vestibule. It is very sturdy and it can handle good snow. the only downside is that it is heavy, almost like the classic tents, but we will take some extra weight over having a weak light tent any day.

Sleeping bag -- If I had no other items to improve, I'd buy a quilt, but I don't think I'll have the money left over for it. Bear Spray -- I am more calm and enjoy the trip a lot more when I have the bear spray.

Used this for 4 weeks this summer in diverse national parks in the American west, often at high altitudes where temperatures dropped into the upper 30s and 40s F, often with significant wind, we found this tent a nearly ideal shelter, Lighter (and much less expensive) than heavy, winter or alpine tents, but weightier (and warmer) than light-weight, airy summer tents, the Fortress provides cool- to cold-weather protection and a lot of conveniences.

A couple of my friends have the previous version of this and having experienced both, the 2020 version has some cool new features:
