 All in all the DT 990's are very good cans; they just aren't for me. Still I debated for quite a while as to whether or not I would keep them. But, in the end I decided I would send them back.  UPDATE: I didn't want to give up on Beyerdynamics, so the day after I returned these 990s I ordered a set of DT-880 Premiums

 With so many variables affecting peoples like or dislike of any pair of phones it is my goal to help those with similar musical tastes and similar gear to determine whether or not these headphones will be a good investment for them personally.  To that end; I listen to music in practically every genre. I tend to go through different phases, but I enjoy Mozart as much as Metallica, 80's one hit wonders and New Orleans Jazz, Lady Antebellum or Lady Gaga, Eminem to Zedd. Music has so much to offer in all genres that one could spend a lifetime discovering new things they like

 The 880 Premiums clamp A LOT lighter than the 990 Pros as well (super comfortable, though I could probably sneeze them off). In the end, I was glad I auditioned both sets, and even though the 880s are almost double what I got the 990's for I will be keeping them. I can see the appeal of the 990s, but still, for me they were just okay (and I'm talking sound wise only). Beyerdynamics makes some really nice cans, but a person needs to do their research to figure out which model will suit them best

 They are made very well and being able to replace any broken or worn part is a big benefit. I like the coiled cable and the plug with the screw-on ¼" adapter (though I wish it was detachable), and I think the phones are nicely styled. I wish the midrange had a bit more presence and that the phones had better dynamics (difficult with the subdued middle). The soundstage is very good, though it doesn't feel quite as wide as my HD 598s or 600's (at least to my ears)

They Just Didn't Do It For Me.

 They've got that iconic black color with the white grill inside that Beyerdynamic is known for. When you're wearing these people are gonna know. The earcups themselves are oval in shape and have that sexy silver velour padding which are very comfortable and surprisingly they don't get that hot during extended gaming sessions which is what we're all looking for at the end of the day when we're gaming. The headband has a nice clamping force on it so you won't be snatching these off your head or when you're just moving around from monitor to monitor or during like an intense battle these are gonna stay put

 They aren't super wide when it comes to soundstage but they are wide enough to get the job done and then some. I had no problems placing my enemies in game and destroying them. So are these just a hype train fad or are they actually good gaming headphones? And I have to say these are very good headphones sprinkled with a little bit of hype but that doesn't change the fact that these are still really good headphones. You're getting that great bare dynamic build construction with comfortable velour pads that don't get hot over time

 Ohms is the power needed to power the headphones and most computers can't produce 250 ohms of power to these headphones which is why you need an amp to boost the signal. I'll be dropping some cheap amp options down below for you guys as well as always. I'm personally using the LocksJoy P20 which is around $80 and it can power these with no problem. Music wise though these are balanced studio headphones with a slight emphasis on treble which gives them that airiness that translate to being a good stereo gaming headset

Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro Review! Ninja's Headphones.. Are they worth it for gaming?

I've had two of this same exact headset. They are very great with everything except that they are not durable at all. That's the only reason it is not a 5 star review. From constant use of putting them on and off they snap at the screws where you adjust the size

Be warned they break SUPER easy but overall amazing.

What I got my eyes on: I found a very reasonable price for a Beyerdynamic DT990 pro on amazon that ships to Turkey with very low import fees (150+20$ vs 270$ or 2300 Turkish Liras local price). But I've heard that they have very sharp treble, The bass is not a problem though. I've also looked into ath m50x and ath m40x which also seem pretty good especially since the m40x is very affordable at 140$ local price vs the 170$ Beyerdynamic and 210 USD ath m50x. Budget - 150$-200$ or around 1750 Turkish Liras

 There's definitely an emphasis on the bass/sub bass in these. For open headphones, these pull off an impressive amount of lows. It makes them great for electronic music like house, drum and bass, dubstep, etc as well as genres like rock and metal as the music feels full. Compared to Philips SHP9500's, which I believe have a pretty neutral and balanced sound, the DT990's sacrifice accuracy and detail for warmth and voluminous bass/sub bass

 Now, I used to own the original HE500, which the HE6 was sort of like the higher-end, bigger brother of, or more demanding, power demanding, bigger brother, and my main complaint with the HE500 was that it had somewhat of a, you know, rugged kind of build style where the comfort wasn't really all that great. It was a little bit heavy, and so, you know, it ended up being not something I would wear for long periods of time, and I gotta say that my initial impression of the build here is that this feels quite a bit more refined, but I gotta say that I'm never a fan of this style of headband that doesn't have the swivel on it. It's the same headband that exists with the Sundara. Now, this, from the looks of it also, is not the Adorama version or whatever the version that I've seen, you know, floating around

 I'll steal it from you. Let me just put this on and see how comfortable it is. Again, not my favorite headband. Oh gosh, this is very stiff

 Let's keep listening. All right, so the only real issue that I'm noticing here with the frequency response so far is that it does sound like it has that typical sort of like mid to upper mid distance. There's often a bit of a mid-range recession there, somewhere at around like 2k, with many Hi-Fi man headphones, and this seems to have that as well. So what happens is it gives the, it creates a bit of distinction there between the upper mids and lower mids, meaning that certain times vocals can sound a little bit empty

The HD6XX for $199 and below has been that in my opinion until now, but these have serious quality to offer at a price range that has nothing nearly comparable to offer.

 So these velour pads you know they're only $6 they do kind of feel like $6 that makes any sense they're really tough and really hard. Definitely not like the Sennheiser ones where they're nice plush and soft so they definitely feel very stiff and less premium and they're breathable so I don't really get any like hot spots which is kind of cool but they're a little itchy though I don't think they're a little itchy and you can see that they kind of attract some type of dust too very easily so that's something to also watch out for. And then overall they're not really angled so if you look they don't really like angle the headphone forward like the new stock pads do so that's also another benefit for that and they also have pleather on the outside and they got the kind of like cloth internal inside so they're still breathable. I do really think that the pads are definitely not as good as the ones that they come stock but obviously they're a lot cheaper but yeah they're definitely not in the same class of comfort and I definitely much prefer these stock ones but if you buy those they're an extra $40 right instead of the $6 that these come in at

So when I put the velour pads on I immediately noticed that besides the fact that they're kind of hard like on the side and the distance is a lot more I noticed that there's definitely more treble more upper frequency air definitely and I noticed that a lot and some of the S's and T's got a little hot it was just like you hear a lot of like those type of sounds that were emphasized a lot more than they were before and overall it wasn't like terrible but it's definitely like pushed the boundaries a little bit more but I did feel like it had a good amount of energy and I kind of enjoyed it actually because then after I went back to my stock pads with the basically the stock pads were the hybrid pads right so they have the leather around it and then the cloth around it so after I went back to the stock pads I just felt like there wasn't enough trouble and enough emphasis I actually felt like it was too warm and it was kind of an interesting like experiment but like I actually tried it for the velour for like over a week and then I played some songs right before I switched it back to make sure I was familiarized with it so that's what I noticed another thing I noticed was actually kind of the male vocalists in that kind of region I felt like the mids are actually were kind of enhanced a little bit more and they weren't pushed as far back as they are on the stock pads so I felt like male vocalists came across a lot more present and more detail and I actually enjoyed that part and it wasn't like overly hot once I swapped back to the normal pads I was like oh wait I'm missing all that information now and they kind of sound a little bit further away again so that's definitely a thing I noticed that definitely was a downside of the stock pads but really for ten dollars I think if you want to experiment with these these are a great idea to experiment with however I do think these are very uncomfortable compared to the newer pads that they come with because I think these were like the original pads that 86's came with they had some type of velour are not angled right so they don't have that extra like imaging and precision that you get from the angled drivers as well as they're so tough and hard I kind of got uncomfortable wearing it after like a few minutes honestly like it wasn't the most comfortable experience maybe if we like you know kind of push on it a little bit more loosen it up a little bit it might be more comfortable you know but it's definitely a little tough and you know it feels like you know cheap stuff the thing about velour pads over like kind of leather pads in general is that they should have less bass but you know I noticed that like the bass didn't change too much I felt like I was still getting a pretty good bass extension and everything and it didn't feel like I was missing too much but I'm sure there were some type of leakage because like the leather should keep your bass in there in theory but for at least the 86 SCV2 that I'm using that didn't really seem to happen so that was good in conclusion my overall experience with swapping a pad was actually pretty good I actually enjoyed this sound I almost kind of want something in between this and the stock pad so now I'm kind of more incentivized to kind of try other pads out I know other brands like the KONI kind of make these pads they're a little bit more they're a lot more expensive I think like $50 $60 though but then they also come with like a ring attached so it should be pretty easy just buy them and then kind of install them versus like buying pads and trying to like get rings and like sticking them on so maybe in the future I'll try some of those pads out and see how they sound but yeah I would say try these pads out they're only $10 they're kind of fun if you want to experiment with your headphone and yeah anyways please like and subscribe down below it really helps my videos out and I'll see you guys next time bye bye.
