 All in all the DT 990's are very good cans; they just aren't for me. Still I debated for quite a while as to whether or not I would keep them. But, in the end I decided I would send them back.  UPDATE: I didn't want to give up on Beyerdynamics, so the day after I returned these 990s I ordered a set of DT-880 Premiums

 With so many variables affecting peoples like or dislike of any pair of phones it is my goal to help those with similar musical tastes and similar gear to determine whether or not these headphones will be a good investment for them personally.  To that end; I listen to music in practically every genre. I tend to go through different phases, but I enjoy Mozart as much as Metallica, 80's one hit wonders and New Orleans Jazz, Lady Antebellum or Lady Gaga, Eminem to Zedd. Music has so much to offer in all genres that one could spend a lifetime discovering new things they like

 The 880 Premiums clamp A LOT lighter than the 990 Pros as well (super comfortable, though I could probably sneeze them off). In the end, I was glad I auditioned both sets, and even though the 880s are almost double what I got the 990's for I will be keeping them. I can see the appeal of the 990s, but still, for me they were just okay (and I'm talking sound wise only). Beyerdynamics makes some really nice cans, but a person needs to do their research to figure out which model will suit them best

 They are made very well and being able to replace any broken or worn part is a big benefit. I like the coiled cable and the plug with the screw-on ¼" adapter (though I wish it was detachable), and I think the phones are nicely styled. I wish the midrange had a bit more presence and that the phones had better dynamics (difficult with the subdued middle). The soundstage is very good, though it doesn't feel quite as wide as my HD 598s or 600's (at least to my ears)

They Just Didn't Do It For Me.

 They've got that iconic black color with the white grill inside that Beyerdynamic is known for. When you're wearing these people are gonna know. The earcups themselves are oval in shape and have that sexy silver velour padding which are very comfortable and surprisingly they don't get that hot during extended gaming sessions which is what we're all looking for at the end of the day when we're gaming. The headband has a nice clamping force on it so you won't be snatching these off your head or when you're just moving around from monitor to monitor or during like an intense battle these are gonna stay put

 They aren't super wide when it comes to soundstage but they are wide enough to get the job done and then some. I had no problems placing my enemies in game and destroying them. So are these just a hype train fad or are they actually good gaming headphones? And I have to say these are very good headphones sprinkled with a little bit of hype but that doesn't change the fact that these are still really good headphones. You're getting that great bare dynamic build construction with comfortable velour pads that don't get hot over time

 Ohms is the power needed to power the headphones and most computers can't produce 250 ohms of power to these headphones which is why you need an amp to boost the signal. I'll be dropping some cheap amp options down below for you guys as well as always. I'm personally using the LocksJoy P20 which is around $80 and it can power these with no problem. Music wise though these are balanced studio headphones with a slight emphasis on treble which gives them that airiness that translate to being a good stereo gaming headset

Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro Review! Ninja's Headphones.. Are they worth it for gaming?

I've had two of this same exact headset. They are very great with everything except that they are not durable at all. That's the only reason it is not a 5 star review. From constant use of putting them on and off they snap at the screws where you adjust the size

Be warned they break SUPER easy but overall amazing.

What I got my eyes on: I found a very reasonable price for a Beyerdynamic DT990 pro on amazon that ships to Turkey with very low import fees (150+20$ vs 270$ or 2300 Turkish Liras local price). But I've heard that they have very sharp treble, The bass is not a problem though. I've also looked into ath m50x and ath m40x which also seem pretty good especially since the m40x is very affordable at 140$ local price vs the 170$ Beyerdynamic and 210 USD ath m50x. Budget - 150$-200$ or around 1750 Turkish Liras

 There's definitely an emphasis on the bass/sub bass in these. For open headphones, these pull off an impressive amount of lows. It makes them great for electronic music like house, drum and bass, dubstep, etc as well as genres like rock and metal as the music feels full. Compared to Philips SHP9500's, which I believe have a pretty neutral and balanced sound, the DT990's sacrifice accuracy and detail for warmth and voluminous bass/sub bass

 I'll be quick with soundstage and imaging. Soundstage is good, not the widest, pretty good, and the imaging is equally good. Not super accurate, but still pretty good. Before I wrap things up, I'll go over power requirements real quick

 Grado is a company out of Brooklyn, New York that's loved and hated by the audio community for a lot of different reasons. And today I'm here to tell you why these are amazing and why I can't recommend them for everyone. This is the Grado SR60E, my first actual good set of headphones. These are an on ear, open back, dynamic headphone and they come in for around $80

 It's like a guitar lead. And that's one of their downsides, because the headphones themselves weigh almost nothing. The cable is a big contribution to the weight, and it's not removable either, which is why the most popular thing to do with a set of Grados is a removable cable mod, and I mean like 70% of the people who buy these do a removable cable mod. Okay, comfort, not the best, but it's not unbearable

 Here's the graph. Uh, yeah, bass? What bass? The bass is pretty recessed, but Grados aren't about bass. They're about detail. Looking at the midrange, you'll see that these are very flat, but then you'll see a peak in the upper midrange instead of a dip, which is, and that's part of the reason why these are so unique sounding

The Best/Worst Cans $80 Can Buy | Grado SR60e Review

I bought these headphone for work to listen to music. They look like a solid, quality pair of headphone (kudos to your marketing people), but are the furthest thing from it. For the price they really don't live up to expectations. I honestly wouldn't put much faith in any of the positive reviews

 The head strap is some kind of cheap plastic made to look like leather. My pair even has a bit a dried glue protruding from one of the wire holes in the earpiece.  Sound: Meh. My $20 skull candy in-ear headphones have MUCH better sound quality

 An $80 gaming headset would absolutely destroy these things.  Comfort: One pro is that they are fairly comfortable. They have a standard foam cover on the earpieces, and are very light due to all the plastic. Extended use tends to create pressure points on the ear, and may force you to take a break from them

  Durability: I think the material section kind of foreshadows this one. So far they have held up, but they don't leave my desk, and I am VERY careful when handling them. I would suspect that a hard fall would either break some of the plastic , or bend one of the headband components.

 But the SR-60Es are meant for serious listening, so I did most listening playing CDs and lossless audio through a high-quality audio interface. I played a ton of different music during testing. These look like they'd be at home in a 70s recording studio, which again is a plus to me, but your mileage may vary

Grado Prestige Series SR60e Review

 Really busy schedule, double major, added minor, clubs, volunteer work, etc. Anyway, the service rep simply replied to a decently well-worded and longish email with 'send pictures'. When I explained the issue again, pretty much the same reply 'send pictures', so I do. Next he suggests I send them my credit card information by email!? so that I can be charged for a new band

Okay. 6 month in review. I do not carry my headphones around or abuse them. Let's start there

 I was not amazed or wowed in any way by the sound but do understand that the headphones have good reviews for sound. Overall, I regret the purchase and do not feel the headphones are worth the cost in a few varied senses.  tl;dr - Didn't abuse headphones, 5 months into ownership the headband failed, grado wanted me to send a credit card by email of all things so they could charge me $15 to ship out a cheap 25 cent piece of plastic. Customer support was unhelpful and amazingly lackluster bordering on laughable

Headband failed with 5 months of light bedroom use. Seriously, they sat 99% of the time untouched. Support was amazingly bad.

 Right off the bat, the sound quality improvement was significant; the midrange and bass opened up and came more forward and the headphones didn't sound lean anymore. Compared to the Fidelio, the bass is light, but more resolved and clean and the high frequencies are definitely more detailed and airy. Without a doubt, these headphones place some amount of emphasis on the upper mids and lower treble which gives the sound this detailed and open quality. I can see why some people find this sound "bright" as the sound can feel that way with some sources, especially low quality mp3s etc

 To be honest, I wasn't blown away, but I was also not very disappointed. Compared to the Fidelio which is a very dark sounding and bass heavy headphone, the Grado felt leaner and definitely had more detail in the higher registers. The biggest change that I heard though was in the soundstage, it did feel more open and ambient, which at first feels unreal but slowly becomes more natural, akin to listening in a room. I then plugged these into my restored, vintage Marantz 2285B receiver which has a stunning headphone amp

 One of the main improvements for these headphones have been mentioned as improved sensitivity, which means they'll do better on mobile devices. So right off the bat I plugged these into my iPhone and started playing music through the beats app which is set for high quality streaming. To be honest, I wasn't blown away, but I was also not very disappointed. Compared to the Fidelio which is a very dark sounding and bass heavy headphone, the Grado felt leaner and definitely had more detail in the higher registers

  Coming from closed headphones, I'm very impressed with this pair of Grados and can recommend them very easily without reservation. They're an excellent buy for the price and with use will have a more settled and even keeled sound which is easy to listen to.
