For picture quality, GT1090HDR has the edge on brightness and HDR support with 4K downsampling, so it plays 4K HDR contents better, while HT2150ST plays SDR contents better with the RGBRGB color wheel. However, I wouldn't upgrade from HT2015ST to GT1090HDR myself unless you absolutely want to keep the same mounting position. They are both old gen designs with stale interfaces.

I currently own the BenQ HT2150ST, and love the color quality / contrast in movies and games

Optoma GT1090HDR vs BenQ HT2150ST?

If you are just looking for 1080p then ignore that other poster saying you can't get a gaming projector. The Optoma GT1080HDR and BenQ TH685 will both deliver very pleasing 1080p HDR images upto 120hz with lag times at 16ms or less in their gaming modes. If you want 4K then it's harder and you will be limited to 60fps and some elevated lag times.
