 You know, this is a bare bones preamp, there's not much to it. It's really just, it's quite versatile in the options, but it's kind of like a set it and forget it type thing, you won't really be messing with many of these settings. And it just sounds great, it's solid, you know, you can see it's got like a little texture to the paint, and it's like this gun red, it's almost like automotive paint or something, it's really smooth. And then comparing it to shit audio, low key, you can see the size difference right here

 Yeah, it's a good preamp, I really like it. Unfortunately, I can't really justify the $150 price tag because it sounds very identical to the Pioneer phono preamp, but like I said, that's actually a good thing because these preamplifiers are really, really, really good. You definitely want to look into the Bellari if you have a poor preamp, it definitely brings a lot more out of the vinyl, so yeah, if you have any specific questions, I didn't see many videos about this preamp, so if you have anything, just let me know, and yeah, thank you for watching.

 Comparing it to my Pioneer VSX 5900S, it's a great amplifier from the 90s, and there's not much of a difference, which is a good thing, because back then, people actually, you know, manufacturers really cared about vinyl playback, and they put good preamplifiers in their amps. So the Bellari definitely is on par with an amplifier like that. So if you have an old receiver that, you know, you don't like the phono stage, or if you have a really new receiver that sounds like crap on the phono stage, the Bellari will definitely do the trick. I can really attest to it sounding pretty similar to the one in the high end Pioneer amplifier from the 90s

 My biggest concern was that vinyl would sound like my CD player. it doesn't, it's smooth, silky, musical and enjoyable. I'm very pleased.

First off I couldn't justify spending as much or more for a phono preamp as I had on my 1960's Harman Kardon A300 integrated tube amp. I set a price for a phono stage at under 200.00 and actually found this Bellari VP549 on an Amazon open box for only 109.00

 The recordings (in general) stink though.  I'm glad I didn't listen to the audiophiles and drop a ton of cash on a phono pre-amp! It's not magic; it's just amplifying the same crappy recordings they made then. I'll be streaming any new music I buy.

I have an AT-LP120XBT-USB as a turntable with Edifier Active Speakers (a pretty basic setup). I was wondering if y'all had any recommendations for preamps? I'm in the U.S., my budget is ideally &lt;$60. 

I'm a college student, so I'm not ready to spend quite a bit on my setup just yet. I know in the future I will upgrade to passive speakers with a decent-ish receiver, and in the far far future I'll get a better turntable, but is there any preamps &lt;$60 that are better than the built-in one I have right now? Or would investing that money in a receiver and passive speakers be a better use of my time? I already upgraded the cartridge to an Ortofon 2M Red, so it's not a completely stock setup. 

Any brands to look out for, or other general advice, would be greatly appreciated! Also, I'm based in Atlanta, and I know there's a rich history of music here, so any recommendations on shops to buy audio equipment, groups on FB, etc. would also be appreciated. Have a great rest of your day!

Phono Preamp Advice

 Let's go ahead and get this open and take a look at it, so like I said it's sealed, so I got my knife here and we got that there, we're going to go ahead and open this up and go ahead and get this, there we go and I'm going to look around, so we've got a bunch of wires, we have an instruction manual, so everything looks to be in its place, let's go ahead and get everything out and take it apart and let's see if we can get this together.5 to RCA, okay we got that, we have a standard power adapter, it's probably 5 volts but I can't really see it, but we've got some tubes here in the boxes, now I have been looking at, I've already been looking at upgrading the tubes on this, I got a couple tubes in my cart on Amazon, but a lot of people say that these tubes actually aren't that bad, so I'm going to go ahead and give these a whirl for a few weeks just to see how well I like them and decide if I really want to upgrade these tubes or not. So here is the actual preamp itself, let's go ahead and get this box out of the way, I don't think we're going to need it anymore, I'm going to give you a close up here, a video of this, what this looks like, it looks like it shouldn't be too hard to finish setting this up. Okay so not a whole lot to this, so here are the tubes here like I showed you all earlier, it said the first step is to go ahead and get these tubes installed, so let me go ahead and it said go ahead and be careful, now I'm 56 years old so I remember where tubes were much more common, we had tubes in a couple of our TV sets, of course my dad would take care of stuff like that, I don't think I remember actually installing tubes before so this would be my first time, I do think it only goes in one way, I think they're keyed so I don't think that you can screw it up even if you want to, so it looks like, again let me show you the actual tube itself, so it looks like it's bent just a little bit right there but I think it should be okay once I push it in, so it looks like it goes in like this, so it should just push right in right, I believe that's it, I believe that's in, so we're going to go ahead and open up the second tube up, we got it packed pretty well so it doesn't move around, again the pins are just slightly bent but I don't think it matters that much, again it's keyed so it only goes in one way, you really can't put it in wrong, so that goes in, that should be that as far as the tubes go, go ahead and get these little papers out of the way here, see we don't really need this here because this is for the plug in on the front, it does come with a plug in the front here for like a line in if you want to plug your cell phone or a tablet or a laptop into this and use it as an amplifier to go ahead and go through your stereo, I won't be using that probably ever if seldomly, so on the back here we do have the standard jacks, we have the input here for the turntable left and right and we have the output which goes to your stereo and we do have, oh it's a 12 volt, so it's a 12 volt adapter so that gets plugged in the wall and you take your turntable that has a ground wire and it plugs into that, it's pretty basic stuff so I don't see any dip switches to change it between the two different kind of cartridges but it shouldn't matter too much, on the front it has this gain knob for as it goes up it gets louder and it gets softer and then you can turn it all the way off and pretty much that's it, so what I'm going to go ahead and do is I'm going to go ahead and walk over and hook this up

more than a few times now, i've seen people talk about the Fosi Audio Box X2 and how great it is for the price. recently, my Pioneer SX-780 needed a repair so i had to revert back to an AKAI AA-R30. the difference in sound quality from the amps alone was massive, and the AA-R30 has a nice balanced sound, but it lacks any warmth and it has a very messy bass sound from it's phono input. one night i decided to pick this up and as i'm listening now, it's just unbelievable! soon i am going to be replacing the tubes, but even with the stock tubes it's made a huge difference to my sound quality on my system!! the music itself has a warmer sound and it feels much more alive while listening

 the soundstage shows a huge improvement as well, with a much grander sound. the bass is kept tight, where you can hear the notes themself, unlike the sloppy sound of the amp's built-in phono. i really enjoy the highs as well, a few times where i thought they'd sound piercing and too overboard, they were still controlled.  overall: if you're looking for a starter external phono-preamp, i'd highly recommend this!

For quite few genres of music I would prefer the analog and full sound of Fosi Audio! I was also surprised by myself and I even doubt it in the first place. If I listen to Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, I found myself more enjoying the groovy and warm sound of synthesizers coming from Fosi. It's really amazing that for less than half price, Fosi can provide with not only close details, but also fuller and musically sound

This is probably the biggest bang for your buck. If you’re just starting out you can’t go wrong here. Just upgrade your tubes and you’ll be really pleased.
