 To get a good isolation/sound I need to use the biggest tips and they start hurting after an hour. Two nights ago I used them to listen to music in bed for two hours and the day after my ears felt really tired and a bit sore.

 Not only that but they are light years more comfortable. Even without any kind of break in, I put them on and I didn't move them again for hours.

I can wear them all day and neither my head, where they rest, or specially my ears, will hurt. These are a wonderful pair of headphones on this regard.

 You can see the headband, there's not a ton going on, it's just this Alcantara padding here and then just really simple lines. Everything works together so these fit really well along your head and you don't have to move them very much to get them to fit. Zooming in a little closer there's some really cool little details here along the magnesium components, it's not just matte black, there's actually a little flecks of silver there for some extra style and then here are some massive pads along these massive 58mm drivers and these are very comfortable and they too are covered with Alcantara so you can really listen to these all day long with no problem. Looking closer at the drivers, a lot of new headphones, especially in the audiophile sector, are planar magnetic or sometimes they're electrostat but these are traditional dynamic drivers but with a twist

 Still while everyone's talking about wireless headphones these days, these awesome audiophile headphones give those who love great sound plenty of reasons to stay wired. So let's talk about the design of these headphones, now from the outside they look pretty minimalist and almost a little bit basic but we don't want to call them that, take that word away because there's a lot going on here, there's a lot of complicated stuff beneath, just like any really cool simple theory, there's a lot of brilliance sort of behind it and that's kind of how we look at these headphones. You can see the headband, there's not a ton going on, it's just this Alcantara padding here and then just really simple lines. Everything works together so these fit really well along your head and you don't have to move them very much to get them to fit

 This is meant to help for very even air control but it's also a closed venting system around most of this part here so it's very controlled venting and it makes for a massive sound stage. Now the ADX5000 don't come with a ton of accessories but they do come with this nice carrying case, it's almost more like luggage actually, it's got a little bit of a pinkish hue and it's silver and then inside you can see this sort of nice satiny lining, really thick padding and it also comes with a nice braided cable, 3 meters long, plenty of length there, a quarter inch termination here and maybe the only real weakness in the entire design here is on this cable, now it has an A2DC connection and that's fine but it's very small and there's a plastic part here that if you're not careful you could break, Audio-Technica even mentions that, they say to always keep the cables plugged in unless you are switching cables and that's probably because there's a little bit of a chance that you could break that part there but other than that we love the cable and you can also get another cable along with it if you want a balanced cable, this is an even thicker braided cable and it does come with the 4 pin connection for a balanced output. One thing to understand is you want a very powerful headphone amp for the ADX5000 because it has a 420 ohm impedance which is pretty rare these days for new headphones and not only that you'll also want a headphone amp with a bit of warmth, we actually suggest getting a tube amp or something with a preamp tube stage because these headphones are a bit on the light side especially in the upper register and that extra warmth can really help with the depth and the power there, that said the ADX5000 are among the most dynamically expressive, detailed and straight up magnifying headphones we've ever put on, every nuance of your music will be exposed for better or worse and like many of great pairs of cans you'll hear things you never knew were happening in your favorite tunes, the headphones absolutely adore digging up instrumental textures and that's especially true with synth and guitar tones and thanks to that big airy sound stage there's loads of space for all the instruments to inhabit different pockets in the stereo image and for them to breathe, sort of take up their own area and that's what really makes these nice for long listening sessions. Of course a $2000 price tag puts the ADX5000 in some mighty company but they also stand on their own because of some really cool design traits including their extremely lightweight and comfy pads which makes them great to listen to all day long, now that's not to mention their expressiveness, their incredible ability to expose detail and their massive sound stage, in other words if you are looking for a new flavor of an epic audiophile headphone you've got to check out Audio-Technica's ATH-ADX5000

Speaking of those 58mm drivers, it's hard to miss this huge honeycomb punched shield on the outside

Audio-Technica ATH-ADX5000 Headphones - Hands On Review

Stock pads, I guess it sounds pretty narrow and closed in, as you'd expect of a monitoring headphone. It's not amazing, but it's also not terribly expensive?

Currently own the Sundaras and was wondering what I should be considering both IEM (this mostly) and headphones-wise that would be a little different to the sundaras.  


I'm not really after any sound in particular, just something different. I would love to find something that has a lot more forward imaging that would push music in front of me but I don't think I have heard of anything outside of speakers that would do that at this price.

What IEM or Headphones to complement the Sundaras under $600 usd?

They are about as good as wireless headphones get. They have great noise cancelling, reasonable sound quality and are super-comfortable.

My current shitty headphones have build in mic that picks up the audio from my headphones too so everyone can hear themselves if my mic is active. I would like to avoid that problem, so wireless headphones should have no mic at all or a really good one. Another problem I've heard about is loose cable slot (friend is unable to recharge his headphones and use them at the same time because cable keeps falling out), another thing to avoid.

In fact, I'm so happy with the quality of the sound (which blows away my next nicest pair) that I'm already looking forward to finding something new. My setup is simple: Schiit Stack (Magni 3+ & Modi). I currently own: Audio Technica M50x (my first baby), Sennheiser HD 6XX, and the DT 1990s.

 So if you've got a really big head like that, it'll, it'll actually still work for you. Now these do clamp on your head pretty tight. I'm a huge fan of the clamp force on this. I think it's very, very comfortable

 It's going to be depending on the game and how you play. Another question that I know I'm going to be getting a lot, 6XXs or 660s. And here's the thing. My thoughts on this are with the 6XXs and the 600, you get this texture and this detail, but you also get this odd sense of smoothness to the sound

 So this is probably going to be a longer video if you want to skip to any particular part, go ahead and jump here and that'll get you to wherever you want to go. That being said, the quick and dirty of this review is buy this headphone if you've never heard 6XXs before, if you've never heard HD600s before, if you want to hear what a basic representation of neutrality is, this is a great, great headphone, especially at the price of $200. Now one thing to factor in is that the HD6XX is a very, very popular headphone, which is actually part of the reason why I recommend getting it is because it kind of offers a very good reference for a lot of people who have heard that headphone and it makes it easier for people to compare based off of that reference, if that makes any sense at all. But one thing you should be aware of is that there have been reports of very, very long waits because these are so popular

 Starting off, these are a $220 USD or about $310 AUD headphones. They're in the lower end of the mid-tier headphone range and in some ways are only a small step above some of the entry-level audiophile headphones such as the Beyerdynamic DT 880, Sennheiser's own HD 58X and the new 560S that I haven't heard yet. So there's some pretty stiff competition and the need to justify their higher price given that there's some great competition for about $50 USD less. Talking briefly about the design, these are a very simple headphone they're made of plastic but they do feel sturdy

 One of them is you might be looking at it brand new or second hand and you might be looking for an additional review and the other reason being that if you've watched my channel for a while and you're looking at other reviews and you happen to know the 6XX you'll get a better sense of how I hear things, what I like and don't like and it'll help you to use my reviews more effectively in the future. So here we go, let's have a chat about the HD 6XX. Starting off, these are a $220 USD or about $310 AUD headphones.  Overall though what I found was that the 4XX kind of was a little bit in no-man's land between the two. It didn't have the impact and bass of the DT880 that I sometimes wanted and at the same time didn't have the mid-range clarity and presence of the 6XX. So it sort of got lost in between the two and realistically I cut their listening quite short because I would either choose the 6XX or the DT880 and the 4XX didn't really come into play. That's not to say that the 4XX doesn't have its own merits but in this particular scenario I would choose either the 6XX or the DT880 before I'd reach for the 4XX

 So there's some pretty stiff competition and the need to justify their higher price given that there's some great competition for about $50 USD less. Talking briefly about the design, these are a very simple headphone they're made of plastic but they do feel sturdy. Scott reckons he's got about 700,000 hours on these, I'm guessing that's an exaggeration but they still look pretty good, you can't tell that they've been a daily driver and a workhorse they still have a good look and feel to them. That speaks to the quality and the longevity of this design despite being quite plasticky

Massdrop X Sennheiser HD6XX Headphone Review - Is it still a winner?

I used these things mercilessly for 15 years, gaming and even sleeping with them on. They still work like new. You cannot go wrong with Sennheiser HD6xx or 58x series cans.

Bought these off of a gentleman who told me he's had these sence they were new and had used them daily untill he needed to sell them. After reading some of the literature I find out everything's printed 1997 (that's older than I am). Got a different cable to reduce some length (old one works great still) new pads and a headband and there still my best sounding cans. Hopefully they'll go onto my kids

1997/1998 Sennheiser hd600

They really shine with audiobooks, studying/focus, and shows/movies. I usually prefer wired headphones like Sennheiser 6XX for music but for noise cancellation and the rich bass, these make an excellent wireless bluetooth option!! Focus/study will be improved for sure wearing them. No issues with any genres I can tell, better than most Bluetooth cans out there.

 Decided noise cancellation was only nice on an airplane, and I preferred wired, donl't have to turn on or charge. If you have eyeglasses or hearing aides like I do, these are perfact. Yes I have expensive Sony noise canceling blue tooth, but the HD5XX are just in a different class, use all day, gaming, general listening. Plugged directly into Gigabyte Z690 Master mobo, no need for a DAC/amp here
