I was shopping for a cartridge to replace my Ortofon 2M Red that came with my Project Debut turntable. The Ortofon was okay sounding but I wanted something richer sounding but in the same price range. After looking around I read the reviews on Audio-Technica AT-VM95EN. Great sounding but had some difficulties . . .

I installed this cartridge on my Dual 1219 to replace my old cartridge which was an old Realistic cartridge made by Shure. It was a major improvement! Installation was very straightforward. Immediately when I played back a record using this cartridge, the entire sound was much punchier with much better bass and treble response. This cartridge has also coped much better with surface noise than my previous cartridge

 So I want you to experience that. So put your headphones on right now. Hit pause if you need to. But also I want to make a couple of observations and a couple of notes

 Be very careful not to damage these because if you ever need to go back and solder new connections, you're going to hate your life. So let's go ahead and gently unscrew the Ortofon 2M Red. And I'm not 100% sure if we'll use these screws or if we will use the ones that it came with. But let's go ahead and see here

  Much more recently, I’ve had a Gold2 and a Statement Platinum2, both mounted on my MoFi Ultradeck. Both tracked well (confirmed with a test record). Both sounded really good running into my Sutherland Insight phono stage.  I’m a super heavy spinner so I decided to buy the Gold3 and return to a cartridge with a user replaceable stylus, which the Statement Platinum2 lacks

 It’s still running in and I’m shocked how amazing this is for $260. Rock, jazz, EDM, classical- it does it all brilliantly.  If you know and like the Grado sound, you’ll love this. If you don’t know the Grado sound, they sound more like real music than most cartridges I’ve heard
