It sure is not as good looking as the Prime Z690A but it'll give you more for your money. So in short, the Prime Z690A is an amazing everyday, versatile, stable, long lifespan motherboard. But it's really only worth it if you can find it on sale, unfortunately

ASUS PRIME Z690-A : The full REVIEW

 Prior to that discovery the MOBO\memory was unstable and the memory failed the Passmark Memtest After that fix, the system remained unstable, and I thought it was due to CPU overclocking however,the system still crashed with all overclocking turned off. Diags on the CPU say it was fine. It could have been a driver issues but event viewer points toward hardware as such I requested a replacement board. The replacement MOBO did not fix the issue

Being the obsessive type that I am, I knew if I was going to do this, I wanted to build the best PC I could.
I’ve been trying to pick up a graphics card, and just was able to get a GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 3090 24GB GDDR6X refurbished.
I have the rest built out in pcpartpicker, but I’m worried that just because I know all of my parts are compatible, doesn’t mean they’re optimized. I have a budget in mind for the rest of the build ($2k) but would love some input. Example, do I want to go Ryzen or i9 for CPU? Does it even matter? Should I go i7 if I’m going to be relying mostly on GPU?
Is it worth it to do 2tb of Corsair m600 if I’m planning to run 64gb of Corsair dominator RAM, or can I get away with something slower/cheaper?
So - anyone have input/advice/research resources? Thanks

Bought a 3090…

 Intel and Asus have recognized the issue but shipped bored using this terrible excuse of a network adapter anyway. Unacceptable on a near $300 motherboard imo. Can not recommend any mobo using Intel I-225V NIC.

Great Board with major annoyance. *updated*

 Asus markets its Prime boards as all-around platforms, with the "A" designation reserved for the top model in a given series. The Prime's price puts it in competitive waters, so we're glad to say it cruises "Alder Lake" without jumping the shark. But it doesn't dazzle us, either.

 Its storage connectivity is good but not substantially better than that of similarly priced boards'. It has plenty of fan headers for cooling enthusiasts, but the layout of those headers isn't ideal. It has no Wi-Fi capabilities, but it isn't significantly cheaper than boards that do. The single RGB lighting strip seems tacked on to check a box, rather than fully integrated into the design scheme

The motherboard's white/silver/black color scheme is a nice alternative to the usual blacked-out boards. Anyone who's built a system with a black motherboard inside a black case can tell you the dark interior seems to gobble up loose screws faster than a Dyson vacuum. The Asus' black PCB, white silk screening, and matte blasted aluminum heatsinks contrast nicely against one another (though they make photography metering a nightmare). For a little extra flash, a single RGB strip runs down the top VRM heatsink, just over the rear I/O cover

Altogether, the Prime Z690-A has a nicely balanced look&mdash;nothing that screams "Look at me!" or nothing that's trying to hide. Like a well-cut suit, it's a board that can look at home in almost any build.

Asus Prime Z690-A Review

 Because while that board had 4 PCAE 16x connectors, this one has only 2, but tons of additional PCAE expansion instead. So while you have way less 16x slots in that board, you do have a configuration that does make more sense in most situations. Most people don't run 4 16x cards, and let's be honest, if you are running a smaller 1x card and 4x card from a looks perspective, it definitely looks a lot better to have a 1x card in a 1x slot, than a 1x card in a 16x slot. So yes, in theory, the configuration does make a lot more sense here, even if you do have less of those massive 16x slots

 Because if you are going to run a 1200K, well something like this board is a must, because the Z690P may be limiting your high-end CPU just a bit. Another thing to keep in mind, is that this board, at least right now, is only available in DDR5, so that may also influence which board you go for. Also, at least right now, you can only get this board without WiFi. There is no WiFi variant listed anywhere on Asus' website, so that's something else to look out for

 And the board we'll be discussing today is the Asus Prime Z690A, or basically just a step up version of the Z690P from Asus we recently covered. So I highly recommend you check out that video as well, it's coming up in the icons. But yeah, the Z690A is pretty much just a step up of that board in every single possible way. Starting with the CPU power, with this thing being way more suited for powering something like a 12900K than the Z690P, because this thing has 2 8 pins for the CPU, plus 16 phasers going directly to the CPU compared to the 8 plus 4 pin configuration and 14 phasers of the Z690P

There's a BIOS flashback BIOS flashback bus and hiding right behind the I think USB ports over here so you can update the bios of the motherboard with just an 8 pin power connector and a 24 pin plug it in. No CPU No ram no GPU no nothing. just just a USB Stick with the right file format and a file with the right file name

Sub-$200 MSI X570 Gaming Plus Motherboard Analysis

I'm using a 5600x with the stocker cooler but it's just straight ass sitting at 65c idle and goes up to 95c in games. If you're using a aftermarket cooler and could share ur temps that would be appreciated.

I assembled my PC and it would not boot. My motherboard indicates a CPU error. So, I returned the CPU, assuming it was defective. I still got the same error. So, I returned the motherboard, assuming it was defective. Unfortunately, when I rebuilt everything, I received the same error.

<p>I feel like I&#39;ve wasted so much time on this impossible task. If I sell my parts, will I even make back a fraction of what I paid?</p>

<p>edit: I fixed the error light for the CPU and attempted to flash the new BIOS using the &quot;flash BIOS&quot; button. However, now the CPU light is back on. Whenever the light is on, I notice the fan is going at max speed. Where should I go from here? It seems weird that a CPU error would be triggered by me hitting attempting to flash the BIOS</p>

I am ready to give up. Nobody on here has been able to figure out my problem and I feel totally hopeless

 (Old Vishera 8350 OCed to 4.4GHz built it in 90 minutes.)  But I really have no complaints, only a couple things to note. BIOS could be a little friendlier

 But then, with all fans being 120mm-140mm, the BIOS may do a fine job controlling them. Even the little chipset fan isn't really audible (in olden days, one or two would get my ears ringing after a few minutes).  Had been using other brand mboards since the late '90s (GigaByte, Asus). But MSI's been getting much better ratings lately so I decided to give them a go

Needed a better dekstop. This mboard, Ryzen 3950x, Noctua NH-D15 cooler, 32GiB GSkill RAM, and Sabrent NVME drive I'm about to test. (Still using a bunch of Hitachi/Toshiba 1TB rotating drives for most of my data). Put it all together in my Antec 302 case with Corsair RM750x P/S, plugged it in

Don't rush assembly, and don't panic; it could still be PEBCAK.

 The biggest positive about this board is its an x570 so you have some decent ports and future proofing.

Not a bad deal

 It could not be expired, as the board hasn't been out the full year, yet, so the only other possibility was that I was initially sold a used and defective board when I had purchased new from Amazon. Not sure if that is the case, however, as the security tape was not ripped, only the outside seal sticker. Have contacted msi with purchase details to further the warranty, but I was hella scammed.

Was great while it lasted

 This is the mobo to get if you want to spend as little as possible but still get all the performance of the higher end mobos.
