It is definitely an improvement over Nine and I think that's the critical point that I want to try and get. They have, I think tuned it up better

 They've gone for this light truss system um which is some wicked little technology they've put together to create the stability in the shoe. We along with the medial posting two degree this lot harder here on the inside of the shoe versus the outside where you've got the gel so it acts as that sort of uh yeah, like bowling alley. You know when you put them up for the kids, it just holds you and supports you. but you've got the gel to act to aid in terms of the cushioning and support

 ASICS seems to have forgotten who wears this model for running. We are usually not the super quick runners looking for a light weight shoe. Rather, we are looking for a comfortable stability shoe that helps with our over pronation. These shoes do not help

 This one for me was not a good improvement from the prior year(s). I’ve worn this model because of it’s design to be a stability shoe for over pronation. ASICS seems to have forgotten who wears this model for running. We are usually not the super quick runners looking for a light weight shoe

 They actually hurt my feet from the lack of support. For the first time in decades I switched from ASICS to Brooks to try their stability shoe for over pronation. It was the highest rated in this category from my research. And after about five short runs they have been great

 But it felt like the sole simply did not cover my entire foot. The toe, for example, seemed to be protruding beyond the sole, pressing itself against the fabric. So I returned them not wanting to risk injury.

There have been a lot of upgrades to the Gt2000 in the last two years with a completely revamped midsole in the 10

 A big change to the upper is that it is now an engineered knit. It's now a knit replacing the older mesh it was meshed up through the 2009 [Music] and I noticed that the the upper is also simplified. There are fewer layers, but I did not notice a decrease in quality so the fewer layers are going to lighten up the shoe a bit. as I noted, but it's still a pretty quality shoe

 Now the big changes to this midsole and outsole you see that there's light truss light truss running along the medial aspect of the Gt 2010. The light truss replaces two aspects of the Gt2000. It replaces the old Duo Max foam which was a thicker foam, two densities that would run along the medial side of the shoe and that would help to combat pressure from any over pro. pronation

 Cutting through the shoe, The older models of Gt-2000 and the 2010, when I put the outsoles next to each other, they line up. The thing that is important to know though is that there's a little bit more length. just slightly more length to the 10.

I want a shoe that has the cushion and drop of my Hoka Speedgoat with the toebox of my Altra Olympus 4.0.

Beware they do run very narrow at the toe and are not for everyone. If you needed the extra toe room you could look to the Hoka EVO Speedgoat,. EVO Mafate 2 or the Mafate Speed 3, all of which are high cushioned but have a stretchy bit of fabric over the toe, which can make the fit more accommodating.

I currently run in Nike Pegasus Trail Gore Tex. they are ok. But not great. 

Recently switched my road shoes to Hoka Rincon 2 for slower, longer runs and Saucony Endorphin Pro for speed runs.  I quite like the cushioning on the Rincons and am now looking for a trail shoe. 

I am nervous as the Speedgoat 4 were originally released January 2020 and the speedgoat 3 the January before that. So a little concerned that a Speedgoat 5 comes out soon.

Shoes for long days of running &amp; hiking

I’ve done a couple ultras in loose snow, which felt a lot like running in sand to me. I’ve used both the SpeedCross and Hoka SpeedGoat. The ‘goats might have had the advantage due to the much wider sole helping with flotation, but I felt they got a lot heavier when wet. In all instances I studded the soles with about 8 sheet metal screws at the end of some select lugs, which I felt helped with a little extra grip even when ice wasn’t an issue

Wondering if anyone had any advice about shoes that may be better suited for sandy environments. I’m used to running in rocky, rooty, muddy Vermont environments and want to be better prepared for a trail that is relatively flat but very sandy. I currently sport the Salomon speed cross 5s and have used them in sand before but really don’t feel like the larger lugs give any advantage

Recommendations for trail shoes for sand

For years I wore boots (really heavy), then shoes (heavy) and now trail runners (not so heavy). I prefer the Hoka One Speedgoat trail runners. They are good for dry conditions, have great grip and stability (for me). I have never had ankle stability issues, so it works great

, (4) have great cushioning for all-day wear on sharp surfaces, and (5) are not so heavy that I feel like I'm fighting the shoe when picking up the pace. I've run in Altra Timps and Lone Peaks, Brooks Caldera 4, La Sportiva Jackal, Salomon Sense Ride 3, and Topo MTN Racer 1s and none of these had all-day underfoot cushioning and protection against sharps like the Speedgoats. The durability of my Speedgoats have been good.

I’m looking to purchase a new pair of trail running shoes as I’ve beat the boots I’ve been using to death. I like the look of some of the Nikes (pegasus trail 2 gtx, wildhorse 7) but I wanted some input from yall. I tend to run on pretty rough terrain (up mountains and such) so don’t wanna get something too delicate.

New trail running shoes

I run in the Speedgoat 3s and the Speedgoat 4 is a step back for me with regards to weight since it got heavier. The Speedgoat Evo on the other hand, is a huge improvement and superior to the Speedgoat 3 and 4.

For 3 season hiking I chose Hoka speedgoat 3, followed very closely by the brooks cascadia. They're both VERY comfortable shoes that are light and breath + dry very well. Lightness + Breathability + Drying quickly > a heavy gnarly boot that tries to keep you clean and dry but inevitably will get water logged from sweat anyway or the elements, just might take longer vs a trail runner. Also 1 pound on your foot is 5 pounds on your back
