If you want a headache with your espresso, buy this one

Based on Son’s experience an E61 machine is not for me. These are like Rolexes, nice but need regular maintenance that can get expensive. 

 Go through a number of mid range drip machines but remain unsatisfied. Find a KitchenAid SCAA certified machine on sale at the Bay. This is now getting somewhere until the carafe breaks but find out the replacement was more than I paid for the machine and sorry we don’t make that machine anymore and carafes are no longer available, 😠

Coffee is a hell of a drug.

The shots are definitely among the most flavorful I have ever pulled at home. They are not as good as a great espresso bar with a talented barista, but they’re very good - a definite step up for me, especially in consistency. And given that I’m in the middle of a rural area, they’re the best I can get for 31 miles (50 km) or more.

I’ve adjusted the temperature slightly; I’m now using 203˚ F (95˚ C). I’ve set the pre-infusion to 5 seconds. 

 The sequencing and temperature resetting are tricky and can lead to a lot of hot water splatter. As I said, I need more practice.

I got a return model which I ended up upgrading, however my thoughts are that it has amazing aesthetics- actually second to none in that department and is great that you can use 58mm accessories.

Also, the temperature displayed on the PID “jumps” from 86°C to the temp you selected (ex.: 94°C) so it’s hard to know if the temperature is accurate when cooling down or warming up. The only way to know is when the boiler light stops flashing. That’s just a small annoyance

I am specifically looking at the Profitec Pro 300 because of these factors:. * Comes with a PID to assist me that appears to work reliably (this should be a must-have).

After that, a dual boiler and PID let’s you have control over temp with the logistical convenience of swapping between steam and shots without issue. A smaller dual boiler like the Profitec Pro 300 has smaller boilers than a Pro 600 so I would expect less power in the steam wand. A dual boiler with PID is basically the best of all worlds.

I have a profitec pro 300 which is super easy to maintain and heats up really quick. It comes with a lot of helpers like a small computer for setting temps and a count-up? timer when you pull the shot.

I’m not genuinely lazy, but I work a very physical job full time and have a family and pets. What is the best machine for a lazy espresso loving person? I don’t enjoy tinkering with machines, I love milk espresso drinks, but I do like pouring the frothed milk for latte art and simple steps are ok.

Is there anyone here who is “lazy” and still makes amazing espresso?

 And recovery time for both boilers is also incredibly fast. All this in a unit that does not feel too big to fit into a kitchen.

I looked at every feature including programmable pre-infusion and pressure profiling and read up on ore machines than I would like to admit to. Pressure profiles sounded like a cool tool to get the very best results but after some soul searching I realized that I likely would not use this feature enough to warrant the expense.  The 300 has a very simple, non-traditional look, but it has a minimalism that really matches well with modern decor. The quality of the finishing really makes the simple design work. A cheaper build would look awful. The footprint is narrow, though the depth was greater than I expected

Adequate steam but barely. Great machine for portability and espresso making. I make six Americano’s a day so the resovoire needs constant refilling at a liter and a half or so? Happy overall it’s just that I’m high maintenance coffee drinker!

 That is fine for me. The steam boiler and the brew boiler come to temperature at the same time which is a nice design feature.

I had a Gaggia Classic, a single boiler, for about 15 years. One of the features I liked about it is that it I could turn it on from cold and it would be ready for espresso in 5 minutes. It had a powerful heater and a small boiler allowing for temperature changes to be done very rapidly. I mainly used it to make espresso though and didn’t make milk based drinks very often

When shopping for a new machine, thinking that I would mainly use it for espresso, and wanting to reliably control the temperature, I had narrowed my choices down to the single boiler ECM Classika PID and the dual boiler Profitec Pro 300. I chose the Profitec Pro 300 because it had a relatively fast heat up time and had the ability to leave the steam power off when making only espresso. 

Once I received the machine and learned how to steam milk with it, I was blown away with the quality of the steamed milk. I highly recommend the video by Victoria at Clive Coffee on how to steam milk. The steamed milk I make with the Profitec Pro 300 and Victoria’s help, comes out so delicious and creamy. I now find myself choosing milk based drinks over espressos
