Amazon Echo Studio vs JBL L100

Set up was simple enough through Alexa app. This speaker sounds great when is on full blast, but when you put it at a lower volume setting it disappoints. You can hear static, (kinda like a microphone when is on). When you turn it up it goes away

That receiver is screaming for a pair of vintage JBL like L100 or L166 it’ll sound amazing.

With that being said, I wouldn't pay full price for any Amazon device. The Amazon devices go on sale so much. It's just a matter of time before you find a deal. A refurbished Echo Studio is only $125 on Amazon right now

I paid over $4000 for the new one, maybe closer to 6. That’s about the same level of inflation/increase as the JBL L100’s that I ordered to replace the RP-280F’s which replaced JBL L96’s purchased new in the early 80’s for $800. Really miss those JBL’s but got rid of them when they needed to be re-coned for the second time thinking technology must be better (not) and jumped on the L100 Classics when I saw them. The RP-280F’s might end up in the same room as the old chair in a week or 2 when the new JBL’s find their home

A silky smooth midrange that invites you into the music. And a low end that is punchy and controlled. They don’t plumb the depths of lower frequencies, but, for me anyway, they go plenty deep. Despite not being mirrored pairs, the imaging is spot on

Fabric wraps around the sides of the Studio, with cutouts in the front and back for the two bass ports. A black plastic ring on the top holds the far-field microphone array and small buttons for volume up/down, mic mute, and Alexa. The signature Echo light ring glows along the inner edge of the plastic ring, and inside it is a fabric grille panel that protects the upward-firing driver.
