 I used a zoom h4n at first, then invested in Focusrite scarlet, you have to turn the amp pretty high then you hear the clear background noise, whereas my shotgun mic is complete quiet.  I don't planning on using it for any actual voiceover work, but for practice, the clarity is nice.

 The microphone itself is built really well. The grille is just a tiny bit flexible But honestly, it's nothing really to worry about now. Let's get to the specs of the C214 I'm not gonna name all the specs just some of the important ones But they'll be on the screen for you fucking nerds The AKG C214 is an XLR condenser microphone That does require 48 volts of phantom power This has a cardioid polar pattern and a frequency response of 20 Hertz to 20 kilohertz The C214 has two switches on the body of the microphone It has a 20 decibel pad as well as a base cut filter that drops off at a hundred and sixty Hertz All right. I love everything about this microphone aside from two things I feel like the plosives can be a little intense So I feel like a windscreen or a pop filter will really help but honestly I don't ever record any serious vocals without using a windscreen or a pop filter unless you're just totally fucking Experienced just come on swallow your pride use a goddamn windscreen or a fucking pop filter dude you do it It's worth it the other thing that I just wasn't crazy about was the fact that the grill just had a little bit of flexibility To it, but there are some microphones out there that are super flexible like that and if you push just a little bit It'll dent that's absolutely not the case here But it is just a little flexible, and I don't know that always just makes me a tiny bit worried But I don't think it's a super big deal so now that I've given it some thought the grade that I give the AKG c2 one four is in a I need to stop doing The reason I gave this an a instead of an a-plus is just due to those little plosive issues as well It's just that little bit of a flexible grill everything else about this microphone is Fantastic, maybe I'm just being a little bit too much of a stickler I know that 350 to 400 dollars is expensive But if you feel like this microphone sounds the way you want a microphone to sound if you think it's gonna be awesome for you Absolutely save up the money

AKG C214 Condenser Microphone Review / Test

 Depending in your kind of music I can safely say that for it's price range AKG C414 is a must have to your arsenal of microphones. If you had to pick one in this price range then I can easily confirm that's its the winner. You can check out www.soakedmusic

The noise level is way better. Top ends and low ends are sharp

 So I'm going to tap on the boom arm, and as you can hear it's definitely picking that up, especially in the low range in that. So I'm going to actually grab the controls on here right now, and we'll do a test. So now I've activated the high pass filter, and on this microphone that actually starts rolling off at 160 hertz, so you can also hear me now and see the difference it's making in my voice, but I'm going to tap on the boom arm again. And that actually cleans up quite a bit of that, so if you did have a situation where you might bump it or otherwise and you can afford to roll off those low frequencies, definitely could be an option

 I'll go ahead and turn that back onto a flat. And now what I'll do is I'll turn the pad on here, it's a minus 20 dB. And so that's with the minus 20 dB pad, and looking at the meter I would say that's a pretty realistic amount of attenuation here. Now you have a lot of range of use with this microphone, because with the pad and gauge you can go up to a sound pressure level of 156 dB with this, so it's going to be really great for miking up loud sound sources as well as sensitive sound sources

 And so we have a full hardware chain here. No plugins. Now if you're in a streaming space or a less than ideal room you could go ahead and still use a noise reduction plug-in with this. I haven't done it here because I wanted you to just hear full hardware with this microphone

 I'm not using a pop filter here, we'll check that out later, but from this distance, you know, if I speak directly into it, people, people, because, because. We get a little bit of plosive happening, it's actually a pretty good microphone that way, but let's try a little bit further back. Now I'm at about a foot away from the microphone, and you know, you should still get a really good signal here. I'm looking at the meter and not really noticing much difference at all at this point

Great for most acoustic audio recordings. Doesn't sound like a million dollars. But it sounds better than a lot of large diaphragm condenser mics that are sold for a similar price.

 Now we're about five feet away from the microphone. I Don't know I'd say we're about eight feet away from the microphone now. eight feet now. I'm gonna go ahead and you know, make some noise

 Well, you get a nice black case that the microphone comes in. You also get a carrying pouch. You also get this shock mount. See, most microphones don't come with a shock mount

Audio-Technica AT4040 XLR Condenser Microphone Review (Rap/Pop Vocals)

This product has been working since 2014 for me so the quality is great. The only thing you should consider is the pricing. It could be cheaper.

 It's not going to take it away completely, but you're going to probably notice a significant difference with those low ends. So now we're going to do a little test again, talking low, talking middle, talking high. So one more thing I'm going to go into with these switches, I'm going to engage both of them. So right now we have a low cut and a negative 10 dB pad, man, I struggle with that one

 But this one here is really getting closer to that studio level microphone. Studios use the AT4040 all over the place. And it's definitely that price point and that quality that you start noticing higher quality in your audio. So in this video, we will be going over the AT4040 and figuring out if it's the right upgrade for you from where you are to where you're going

 And the reason why I'm saying it's not a high performance microphone is because it's not a Neumann, it's not a high level AKG, and it's really just a nice workhorse. That's what Audio Technica in my mind is, it's a nice workhorse brand. And it's like you could just throw it up anywhere in a studio, on a drum set, on an overhead, and it will work. The next thing I'm going to get into is I'm going to recap that video on the AT2020

 And what you're going to notice is those low ends are going to be a little less pronounced than they're not. You're going to see here more of the mids and the highs. It's not going to take it away completely, but you're going to probably notice a significant difference with those low ends. So now we're going to do a little test again, talking low, talking middle, talking high

Your first Mic Upgrade? (Audio-Technica AT4040 review and Test)

 Again, I am right on top of the microphone to exaggerate the proximity effect and currently the high pass filter is turned off. And now I have switched on that 80Hz high pass filter and you should hear quite a bit of the low end get cleaned up, but here is how it sounds. Now we're going to test the negative 10dB pad. To do this, I am going to hold a relatively consistent note and then engage the pad to see if it is an immediate attenuation or if it smooths out the attenuation over time

 Now here is how the microphone sounds in a well treated room. And here is how the 40-33A sounds in a completely untreated room. Now in order to see how effective the provided shock mount is, I'm going to tap on my desk to see how much of that noise it can reject and then I will tap on the boom arm. Now I am going to tap on the body of the microphone to see if there are any kind of resonant frequencies

 Now I am spinning around the 40-33 to 90 degrees so you can hear the off axis rejection and coloration, continuing around the microphone to 180 degrees, here is the rear of the mic, continuing to the second 90 degree angle, here we are, and then rotating and ending at the front of the microphone. And now we are going to test the plosives even though I can't eat pizza because I'm trying to be healthy. Please bring pizza pronto, please bring pizza pronto, please bring pizza pronto. Now I am right on top of the microphone to exaggerate the proximity effect and here is how it's sounding with all the mouth clicks and noises, gross

Audio Technica AT4033a Review / Test (vs AT2020, AT4040, NT1, U87 Ai)

 Now let's talk about what comes in the box. First off, everything comes in this really nice storage box. You're obviously going to get the microphone. You get this really great looking shock mount

 And for this review, I have the mic connected directly to the 2i2 2nd gen with 48 volts on, and my gain is set at around 35 or 40%. I'm not going to do any compression or any EQ, but I will have to boost it in post to make it a decent level, so check the doobly-doo for that information. Now let's talk about what comes in the box. First off, everything comes in this really nice storage box

 So out of all the Audio-Technica condenser microphones that I've reviewed so far, this is hands down my favorite. In terms of pros, this thing has a very smooth sounding frequency response, particularly in the lower frequencies. The boost to the presence and air frequencies just open this microphone up and make it sound live. The built-in high-pass filter is really nice to have as it helps curb boominess or rumble

 It also has an all metal body as well as a metal grill, but there's not much in there to protect the microphone from plosives, so you may want to pick up a pop filter as well. On the back of the microphone, you will find two switches, the first one being a high pass filter which rolls off frequency starting at around 80 hertz at 12 decibels per octave, as well as a negative 10 decibel pad in case you're recording loud sound sources. When we get to the specs, we got a cardioid polar pattern, a frequency response of 20 hertz to 20 kilohertz, a max SPL of 145 or 155 decibels depending on the pad setting, an impedance of 100 ohms, and a sensitivity of negative 32 decibels. So currently, I'm at about three inches away from the microphone and I am in the flat mode and this is how the microphone sounds
