 I did learn that you really do need a pretty clear shot of the open sky for best signal strength. But that is true no matter which device you use. I am very happy with the Bivy Stick. Even if money was no object, I still think I would buy the Bivy Stick over the Garmin inReach

There is a learning curve.  Practice makes perfect!

 So i can click on message and then i can select who i want to to send a message to and it you can sync with your phone or your your contacts in your smartphone and you can pick from phone numbers to emails. I'M just going to pick an email because it shows up right here at the top and then down here you can, then you hit that button or the at the bottom, and it has the letters just like you would message or text somebody on your on your Cell phone, so let's just make do a test here, so i typed it in it's really fast and once i'm done, i can hit send there's a send button right here at the bottom, and i've already sent several messages to myself tested in some other videos. In the past, so right here it says uh just what i just sent test from acr bivi stick and i sent it to an email. So, let's see i'm gon na switch over to my email, real, quick and see if it actually went to me already and being that i actually right here, i'm in cell service, so it's using satellite messenger, but my my phone's in cell service

 I would put the garmin inreach mini as a 4.5 out of five, and then i would put this just right behind it. At four out of five, but i really like it a lot: it's it's not my favorite, but boy, it's not too far from it. It'S a great device

 There'S there's several things. You can turn on or off the waypoints. You can select kind of map. You want the middle button here, like zooms in on your location, so you can see where i'm at after the filtered by you can see different things here, there's um some some waypoints

 It'S really handy, there's some things here at the top from sos check in and it's kind of hard to see with the sun. In my face, there's new adventures, offline maps, waypoints weather, there's several things here in the middle and then down at the bottom. There'S home maps it says, stick and messages so everything's really easy to get to and again i'll show some screenshots of all this. The the first thing i always do you know, take a look at the maps of course, so right down here at the bottom, you click on maps and several things show up here shows your location up at the top right here

 So that's a big difference for me I don't really want people to know where I'm at all the time unless I want them to know so the live tracking doesn't really mean anything to me. Big difference right up front is price of the unit Garmin retails 350 you can pick them up on sale occasionally for less. Zolio is 200 bucks so up front you save 150 dollars. Both of these devices have three tiers of pricing options they have like the basic the middle and then the pro or whatever

If you just go full unlimited plan which if you're in the backcountry a lot a lot of people just go you know full unlimited both of these are the same price 50 a month unlimited messages unlimited weather checks you can get weather on these to your phone. The one thing where I like the Zolio kind of comes out ahead for me is that mid-tier pricing plan for 35 dollars a month you get 250 messages and then if you go over your 250 I think it's only 25 cents a message so the mid-tier is less on the in-reach 25 dollars a month but you only get 40 messages and if you go over 50 cents it's 50 cents a message for every time you go over so it's kind of this weighing your options of what you're going to use these for

 My family appreciated that I could message them and share my location. However there are a few issues. 1) battery life is no where close to the 200 hours advertised. My battery would go down on average 20% in 8-12 hours every day during a 10 day trip

 I literally just did that. So full disclosure, I bought my Zolio device and I went with the mid range plan, which was $35 for the first round and I bought that a year ago. And the reason I did it last year was because I had a few hunts the year before where cell service was spotty at best, even at the tops of the ridges. And I wanted to be able to communicate with back home, find out how the family was doing things of that nature and also being able to communicate with the office when I need to let them know when I'm packing out, coming back in

 The first thing I want to tell you about with Zolio is what it actually is. When you hear the name Zolio, that's probably the question you first ask is, what is it? What does it do? Well, Zolio is this little device right here. It's about the size of your wallet and what it allows you to do is send text messages in and out, send emergency notifications should you have the tragedy happen.
