Yamaha sounds better, but is more expensive. My rec: Buy used and get a THRii 10, Yamaha Pacifica HSS (Humbucker in the bridge will make your guitar much more versatile, which is important since it'll likely be your only electric for a while), basic looper pedal (Ditto or RC1).

Summary: The kit is a good value for money specially for begginers. All the components are basic but will do the trick at least for a while, after a few years you may want to upgrade.
