I'm just looking for some suggestions for a decent bass around $2-400. It's just going to be for recording nonsense at home.

I've been eyeing up the Ibanez Talman, Yamaha BB234 and Sterling Sub 4.

It is a very nice color and great quality but i had received it with a damaged tuning nob. One of the string can not be tuned. I need to pay to get it fixed now.

I would test a Yamaha BB234 (slightly above 350€).

A recommendation for a real sleeper bass would be the Ibanez TMB100 (around 250€). Both are very versatile, but might have a quite big neck

They make good stuff. The Yamaha BB234 would also be the same basic idea - a P+J bass with its own 'vintage' look. These are slightly more individualistic instruments (up to you whether you want to stand out a bit) but play just fine. In other words ... all good choices - pick whichever takes your fancy.

If I could go back and purchase a bass for the first time, I would go with the Yamaha BB234. It has FANTASTIC build quality and feel for a $300 bass. I might eventually buy the 5-string version because I have never owned a 5-string.

The quality of this Yamaha five string guitar has enough potential to make a beginner sound like a pro. So, with that said, it should cost more than it's worth.
