 For the price you pay for one, you just expect more, I guess. It's been about a week and I still haven't received it, but I blame that more on FedEx than Vornado. The customer service people I've dealt with have been good so far.  Here's the kicker: I had a smaller, newer variable speed fan (133DC) that JUST conked out today (still works, but the motor must have fritzed because it is about 90% weaker than normal at max speed)

 Unfortunately, they force you to cut the power cord and take a photo before they even ship out a replacement. I did it because I happened to have a (much weaker, cheaper) back-up fan to use, but it sucks to be without a strong fan when you're used to the cooling power of having the air circulator. For the price you pay for one, you just expect more, I guess. It's been about a week and I still haven't received it, but I blame that more on FedEx than Vornado

 Within 2 weeks, both Vornado variable speed fans gave me severe issues, enough for me to turn in warranty claims on them. This one after 5 years, the smaller one after one ONE year!  I'm just seriously contemplating alternatives at this point. It's nice that I can do the warranty claims, but what will happen when the replacements conk out after 1 or 2 years, as I am anticipating? And I know have to buy two of each model Vornado fan just to have one as back-up in case the other one conks out and I have to wait for the replacement to arrive? Come on, I'm not Jeff Bezos. I'm a freakin' lower-middle class pauper living in one of the highest cost-of-living areas in the country

 I cleaned it twice a year of all the gross dust, and it kept churning day-in and day-out. What failed was the on/off dial in the end. The extremely thin nut holding it tight just wasn't able to anymore due to the plastic around it failing and the threads of the bolt wearing down from turning it on and off everyday for over five years. This is a pretty big design flaw that Vornado should look into, I think? A better way to keep the switch in place so the dial can stay in place and turn on/off properly for the life of the motor/blades/any other crucial part would seem like a big thing to cheap out on

Skeptic turned believer  EDIT On/Of Dial broke after 5 years.  Annoyed.

I have 4 other Vornado fans to compare with this new one. This one does not measure up. I don't like the very reactive graduating knob to set the fan's volume; it is too difficult to get it just where we want it. When set on its highest, this fan does not circulate as much air as older models -- although, its makes makes far more noise

 My electric bill has NEVER been that low in the summer and is only that low during seasons when no heat or A/C is needed, and even then, usually only when I've been out of town for a week of vacation with the hot water heater turned off.  I keep the speed up around med-high while awake and keep the fan in my hallway outside my bedroom facing the living room and my couch (10-12 ft. away) and just shift it a couple of feet to the doorway facing the bed and turn it to med-low when sleeping. This placement in a central hallway location means I don't have to unplug it and move it to a different outlet for waking and sleeping hours

 The cheapo 20" diameter box fan backup I had to use as a temporary replacement (normally use only outside on my patio in summer when I'm out there, as I often am) while the Vornado was being repaired was VASTLY inferior in performance to the 9" diameter Vornado 610DC. There is absolutely no comparison between them as the Vornado's performance blows away (pun intended) the performance of the much larger size cheapo fan. Vornado has gained another customer for life with me.

 I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was right at $20 less this past month at $43 and the fan stays on 24/7. Nothing else changed in my normal electricity usage pattern during this time other than using the Vornado and keeping my thermostat higher.  Summer for 8 months and Fall/Spring for 4. With that in mind, I've been wanting to get one of the Vornado air circulators for awhile now, so I finally sprung for this one a couple of months ago. I'm glad I did.  After doing a bit of research on their various models, I settled on the 610DC Energy Smart model

I'm a fan of this great fan!  Go for it!

 But even the lowest of these settings is pretty fast and loud. I like to run my fans whisper quiet, but this is not possible on models 630 or 270 or most current Vornado models. To get the whisper quiet lower speeds with a continuous rheostat, you now need to get one of the DC models, such as the 610DC. The 610DC can indeed run at very low speeds, whisper quiet, and still circulate air throughout an entire room

 Even on the lowest setting, these fans will circulate air throughout an entire room, as long as you point it in the right direction. They are so powerful that I can't imagine any use for the high setting in a home environment, but perhaps it would be useful outside or in a warehouse.  The Bad: Models 630 and 270 are quite loud, even on the lowest setting. Several years ago, Vornado stopped putting continuous rheostats on most models, and now you have only 2 or 3 factory determined speed settings

 The problem is: The Variable Speed Control Knob moves too easily & goes from a slow speed to a very fast speed with just a slight movement of the Speed control knob. I think Vornado could make this speed control knob a little stiffer so it is not so easy to jump from low speed to high. Other than this complaint I feel this fan delivers everything it claims & a bit more. You will not be disappointed with the purchase of this Vornado fan!

Overall this is an excellent fan with plenty of power. You might be surprised by how much air this fan moves if you only look at it's size but as they say don't be fooled by the size! This Vornado fan is light weight yet durable & seems to have a nice size, quality motor. What is nice about this fan also is that it comes with a Vornado 10 year warranty. I don't believe Vornado would offer a long warranty if they expected the fan to break down & need repair before the 10 years was up! I have only one (1) complaint with this fan & it might be just a problem with my particular unit
