Despite being the smallest of our tested fans, the Vornado 683 Medium is also among the most powerful. Packing a big punch, we measured this little fan hitting 13.4 mph. While this will certainly help cool you off when pointed directly at your face, it's also fairly effective as an air circulator when positioned just right in larger spaces. Instead of a solid base, this lightweight model has five sturdy legs that give it a small but stable footprint. Of all the models we tested, this one operates at the lowest pitch, sounding more like a hum than the traditional whirring of a fan. Though it can't point down, it can be angled nearly vertically to bounce air off the ceiling and blow it effectively around an entire room. It's the only one with the cord coming out of the bottom of the stand, as well, rather than dangling off the base of the motor halfway up the stand.
While those that love simplicity will appreciate this straightforward 3-speed design controlled by a simple knob, the Vornado 683 is likely to disappoint if you're after settings and features. It has no remote, no extra modes, no timer, and doesn't even oscillate. Additionally, this fan may not quite reach the top of your bed &mdash; at its tallest, it stands just 38 inches high. It's also quite loud on higher settings, though the lowest speed is reasonably quiet. All right, everyone, here's just a quick remake of the Vornado 683 and it's probably permanent area of the house. I put a vornado in the office because it's very close to the air vent in here and having air circulation here is good, since the flush-mounted fan only can do so, much being so close to the ceiling. Not much has changed about this fan. I did recently clean it and I did remove one of the feet off the base, so I could fit it closer to the wall, but that's pretty much

 Very cheap but feels well built and despite not being as powerful as the other two, since it draws less energy and makes virtually no noise, we opted to fill the room with 3 of these which we keep at around 3m/9ft blowing air directly at the lowest setting. Best setup for sleeping.  Details (the 3 numbers for each fan and metric correspond to the 3 power settings). Power drawn (beasured using a TP-link HS110 smart plug): Lakso: 85/73/63w Vornado: 60/45/40w Honwywell: 25/23/21w  Noise (measured with an unreliable phone app, from behing the fan) Lakso: 60/55/50db Vornado: 45/40/35db Honeywell: 40/36/34db  Final veredict: We returned the Vornado and for the same price we have the Lakso which we setup in front of the window before goingto bed and the 4 small Honeywel for "whole room air circulation",1-3 of which we keep overnight or on timer (with the TP-link smart plug)

 There are three levels to adjust the speed of the fan, i'll just be quiet, so you can hear the different levels, like most fans there's going to be. You know the cone of air flowing and if you want really kind of a personal fan in a particular area that you can move around easily and adjust and rotate at any time, and it does feel strong. Love this fan BUT!

Size DOES matter!

Love it.. hate it.

 Now, granted, if you're living in a really, really hot desert area, this fan will probably not cut it for you, because no fan could. In that case, you definitely need some kind of AC solution (i.e. a portable AC or if that weather is right for it, an evaporative AC)

 It also implies making a lot of noise, as the more potently the fan runs, the faster it hits the air, therefore the noisier it gets. Fans also do not lower the temperature of the room, as they only move air around, bringing cooler air from one place to another.  With all that said, this fan does exactly what a fan is supposed to, and it's great at it: * Has three power settings, which is great for adjusting the noise levels but also the cooling you get at night. * Is very powerful, despite its small size

e. a portable AC or if that weather is right for it, an evaporative AC).  Now, some people expect fans to do wonders. A fan is a fan, which means it needs to move air in order to cool a particular area

 * Vertically adjustable.  Cons: * Despite being able to blow quite hard, it's still a small fan, and it won't be able to cool larger rooms. I'd say it works best in an apartment where rooms aren't particularly big. * It's not programmable like other fans you can find on Amazon

I'm a man who gets very hot very quickly and easily. I produce very high body temps, and throughout the year I struggle to stay cool. We recently moved to a new apartment that has no AC in the bedroom, and I was dreading the summer nights here in the South Bay Area, California. Not anymore

 I have smart alerts set on my temperature sensors upstairs so that I can change the air conditioner settings as necessary (I get a text alert when the upstairs hits 80 degrees, get another at 81, etc.). An hour after I set up and started the 683, they were silent.  Assembly was easy

 In practice, with all of the air circulating, my air conditioners spend less time running when I have them on the econ setting. I need to put the fan on a meter to see how much it is costing me to do this, but it is definitely more comfortable up there than it was. I have smart alerts set on my temperature sensors upstairs so that I can change the air conditioner settings as necessary (I get a text alert when the upstairs hits 80 degrees, get another at 81, etc.)

 The deep construction pulls pretty much all the available air into it and then sends it out in spirals that mix more effectively with the rest of the air and cool the hot spots to a more uniform temperature. In theory, this should spread the air conditioned air around my upstairs and mix the hot air in with it. In practice, with all of the air circulating, my air conditioners spend less time running when I have them on the econ setting. The 683 moves a lot of air. My upstairs is a work in progress, when it comes to cooling. It is a poorly insulated attic conversion with sunlight beating down on it all summer long. Until I can gut and insulate, the best I can do is supplement air conditioning with fans

LOVE Vornado Hope they never loose their quailty because they have a great rep!

 The circulation of air does not does not exceed any basic fan found at any chain store for much less. The cost does not match the quality or the output. The only reason I have not returned the fan is the cost of shipping to return it.
