I've had some pretty decent storm so but most time I Use it in the summer time and a great little tap tarp tent. Can't go wrong for 229 bucks or a ult...

* Get a free standing tent. TarpTent ProTrail, Gossamer Gear The One, Aricxi Tarp etc. * Ditch the footprint, or replace it with polycro (and the polycro is just because you'll probably want to cowboy camp 95% of the nights). * Replace the sleeping bag with a quilt.

* Ditch the tent and sell it, get a tarp/bivy, a DCF tent, a TarpTent ProTrail (or MoTrail), or a GossamerGear The One or The Two. Your tent weighs way more than it needs to.

Replace the tent with something lighter like a TarpTent ProTrail or gossamergear the one. Replace the quilt with one that's not as warm. You're going to regret being that warm. Another hammockgear or, timmermade, enlightened equipment, etc.

Flat tarp and a net tent is my go-to. Or a Tarptent Protrail when I really want interior space. It's huge and will easily fit you

Dialed in for sure. Tent and pack are pretty heavy but if the pack rides comfy, no need to swap now. Dropping more weight at the point your at is just UL hobby territory. If you’re willing to go frameless a Nero pack and a Tarptent Protrail Li would get you down to 7 lbs summer.

The "versatility" of the tarp was fun, but honestly I guess I don't actually care about being more versatile than in my Protrail, which won out due to just bulletproof simplicity of set-up. I think I'd definitely be willing to tarp when I'm back on the PCT, or any west coast style hiking (where just a tarp is often fine unless it's buggy).

I have a TarpTent Protrail Li. I like it. I really like it not having struts and that it's so light (something like 17 or 18 ounces.
