Sumiko Olympia

Fitted it with the Sumiko Olympia (soon to be upgraded to the moonstone because of an accident) and couldn’t be happier! Only thing I dislike is the dust cover which immediately scratched as I wiped it down with a microfiber cloth, so if anyone knows good ways to remove minor scratches I’m all ears!. My setup is officially complete and I’ll be happy with this hopefully for a long time.

I’ve had a debut carbon for awhile now and absolutely love it! Really great no frills turntable. Upgraded it with a sumiko Olympia cartridge from the ortofon 2m red and it definitely made a difference.

The cartridge has slightly recessed top and a more forward low midrange. The turntable is a belt-drive (BD) P-Mount, and while not the bottom of the range it was meant to be a plug-n-play in its day. If you want to ability to install higher end cartridges, you might consider something like the Pro-Ject X1 in that price range. It comes with a Sumiko Olympia cart in the US, which can be upgraded with just a stylus swap all the way through the Wellfleet (nude elliptical) and Amethyst (line-contact) options.

This Sumiko Rainer is a great sounding phono. cartridge. Installation was a breeze. its a great choice for those who want a smooth warm sound pared with nice separation and good tracking. It’s not overly bright sounding which compliments my amp and speakers.

I've heard good things about this cartridge! Definitely considered it when I was upgrading from the 2m red on my turntable, but ultimately went with the sumiko olympia as I felt this cart wouldn't have been much of an upgrade.

The Sumiko Olympia is awesome upgrade from the Ortofon 2m series. Less coloration and quiet. Bass has more control. I seen it used with McIntosh turntables. That says something???

I was torn between the MP-110 and the Sumiko Olympia as budget alternatives (and arguably better sound) than the Ortofon 2M Blue. I thought it was crazy that upgrading just the stylus from my red to blue was only 25 bucks cheaper than buying a blue with cartridge. Ended up grabbing the Sumiko since I had some coupons gift cards I needed to use at a retailer that brought the price down closer to the MP-110, plus it has an upgrade path to the Moonstone.

I will say- the first one I received was defective (no output from the right channel.) I got the free replacement so it wasn't a big deal. The replacement is working perfectly. I am replacing a high-end AT which I never really liked because of how bright and surgical it sounded. I prefer a warmer so...
